However, unfortunately, as they entered the road to Qingshui Village, they encountered a warning sign indicating that the road was under maintenance.
"Miss, this road under repair leads to Honghu Bay, but it's the only way to get to Qingshui Village. If it weren't for the repairs, we would have arrived in another half hour, but now we can't go any further," the driver pointed to a small path leading into the woods beside the closed road. "You can take this dirt path; it's a shortcut, but it will still take about an hour. Once you’re out, you'll be in Qingshui Village. Especially with the weather looking like it’s about to change, the roads in the mountains can be tricky. Would you like to head back? It's safer to walk during the day."
Xia Xiaoyu knew the driver was right. She glanced at the sign prohibiting vehicle access in the middle of the road through the front windshield and realized that vehicles were not allowed today. However, time was tight, and after finally making it here, she felt somewhat displeased at the thought of turning back.
"Thank you, driver. I'll get out and walk myself."
Xia Xiaoyu took some money from her bag and handed it to the driver while speaking.
"Miss, you're from the city, right? What brings you to Qingshui Village?"
The driver asked curiously.
Xia Xiaoyu opened the car door and replied, "I'm looking for someone in Qingshui Village. Thank you, driver."
"Looking for someone?"
The driver murmured as he pondered for a moment before suddenly realizing something. "Hey, miss..."
When the driver looked up again, he noticed that Xia Xiaoyu had already walked into the woods.
Driver became even more curious because Qingshui Village had already been relocated, right?
Where is everyone?
Xia Xiaoyu walked into the forest, navigating the dirt path. It was then that she realized how difficult the paths in the forest were to traverse. The road was overgrown with weeds, clearly having not been walked on for a long time. Looking at the winding trail extending into the distance, she felt a sense of unease.
As Xia Xiaoyu reached the center of the forest, the underbrush grew thicker, completely obscuring the path. She looked up at the sky; dark clouds were gathering, indicating that a heavy rain was about to fall. The light was gradually fading, and despite it being only five in the afternoon, the forest had already turned gray.
However, after walking for nearly an hour, Xia Xiaoyu sensed that something was off. According to Driver, it should take no more than an hour to reach Qingshui Village, but now she was still lost in the woods.
The darkness deepened, and after walking for almost half an hour more, her unease turned into fear...
Because she felt as if she were lost...
At that moment, Xia Xiaoyu understood the true meaning of "looking at mountains while riding a horse." When she entered, it seemed like there was an end to this small path, but now that she was inside, it felt as if there was no way out.
She was slightly out of breath from exhaustion; the further she walked, the more difficult the path became. The dirt road outside the mountain was relatively smooth, but once inside, it became uneven. After taking a few steps, she would encounter branches protruding from nowhere, like strange hands trying to hold her back.
Watching as the sky grew darker, it was evident that in just over an hour, it would likely be completely dark. The thick clouds obscured the sky, and within the forest, there was a damp feeling; a thin mist enveloped the entire area, making everything appear even more hazy.
Is this the road to Qingshui Village?
