In the dim night, Xia Xiaoyu let out a long sigh of relief. She did not see anything terrifying, and the Old Dormitory Building was right in front of her.
Still somewhat shaken, Xia Xiaoyu's fearful gaze scanned her surroundings repeatedly. In the pitch-black night, the mottled and blurry light was quite indistinct. Xia Xiaoyu could hardly see far ahead; everything appeared hazy, revealing a hint of eeriness in the tranquil night.
After lingering for a moment to suppress the fear rising within her, Xia Xiaoyu observed that there were no anomalies around. She then stepped forward with heavy footsteps and ascended the stairs. The dark staircase felt like an isolated space, echoing with hollow and jarring sounds of her heartbeat.
The atmosphere was monotonous, lacking any color or rhythm; everything seemed very vague. Xia Xiaoyu dared not run. She silently recited "Fifth Floor" in her mind before rushing into her dormitory. However, just as she stepped onto the Fifth Floor at the Staircase Entrance, the bathroom door on that floor suddenly creaked open.
Xia Xiaoyu's footsteps halted abruptly, but she did not turn back. The bathroom door opened slowly, as if someone was gently pushing it. This was not a common occurrence, and Xia Xiaoyu knew that, yet she dared not look back.
This reminded her of the time when she was showering with Tang Jiaying in the bathroom when a terrifying figure walked in after the door opened. Although she couldn't clearly see its appearance, the series of bloody footprints still sent chills down her spine.
Xia Xiaoyu stood at the Staircase Entrance for a while; when the sound faded away, she realized she had encountered another eerie event—not a person or merely the wind blowing open the bathroom door.
Was something deliberately trying to scare her?
"Zifeng once said that when a person is frightened, ghosts will come closer. The more bizarre things become, the less one should panic; once panic sets in, Sikong's flame can easily extinguish, and that would be real trouble."
Xia Xiaoyu swallowed hard and kept repeating Zifeng's words to herself.
Right, right, right! She absolutely must not panic now. As long as she didn’t look back, Sikong and the flame on her shoulders wouldn’t be blown out suddenly, and everything would be fine...
Xia Xiaoyu's heart had been silent for a long time before it finally began to recover, and she lifted her feet again, slowly making her way up.

Suddenly, just as Xia Xiaoyu was about to step onto the fifth floor, a little boy's voice unexpectedly came from behind her.
Xia Xiaoyu was startled and almost turned around abruptly, but she felt a wave of fear wash over her.
Was it a boy's voice?
But the person she had seen on the rooftop was a girl.
Then she remembered something: when she and Lin Xi were coming through the small grove, she had been pushed, and at that moment, Lin Xi had seen a little boy dash into the grove.
So now it must be him; he had somehow followed her without her noticing.
Ghost Infant
Xia Xiaoyu felt a chill run down her spine because Ghost Infant Zifeng had once said that it was a terrifying and filthy thing. Once it took an interest in someone, it would cling to them, and the Ghost Infant crawled out from the belly of the deceased.
Xia Xiaoyu felt as if her entire body had turned to jelly; she was weak and exhausted, wanting to collapse at any moment.
She did not turn around and dared not look back. When faced with such filthy things, if they called your name from behind you, it was best not to respond or turn around. Because if you did look back, it might just scare you to death.
