The person seemed to have suddenly appeared outside the small grove and then walked inside.
However, they looked no different from a regular person. Xia Xiaoyu surveyed her surroundings again, noticing the increasingly darkening sky. It was probably just past eight o'clock, and by this time, the students living in the Old Dormitory should have returned.
Xia Xiaoyu knew she couldn't wait here any longer. Even outside, she felt a chill of fear creeping in, and if she stayed by the river, her anxiety would only grow.
Taking advantage of the moment, she decided to follow the person ahead of her.
With this thought flashing through her mind, Xia Xiaoyu hesitated for a moment but realized that if she wanted to return to her dormitory now, she had no choice but to follow.
As Xia Xiaoyu stepped into the small grove, a wave of coldness surged from her heels and spread throughout her body. Despite her lingering hesitation, she watched as the figure ahead gradually disappeared into the darkness and followed. Perhaps due to her fear, she kept a distance from that figure.
From afar, Xia Xiaoyu still felt something familiar about the silhouette in the dark. She could only see its rough outline against the pitch-black background and couldn't make out any details of its clothing. Yet it gave her a sense of déjà vu.
The chilling air made her heart race uncontrollably. After everything that had happened, Xia Xiaoyu understood that at times like this, a woman's innate intuition would clearly warn her to be cautious.
As she passed under the first streetlight, Xia Xiaoyu glanced at the figure moving past the dim light. It walked straight and stood upright like a pole. However, as it passed under the streetlight, a chill ran down Xia Xiaoyu's spine.
She sensed something was off but didn't look closely. The figure continued forward under the streetlight like an old man in dire straits, weakly emitting a faint glow. Although this light allowed for short visibility, within the small grove, the surrounding white cherry blossoms cast an eerie atmosphere of tranquility mixed with terror. It was strange and sinister.
Xia Xiaoyu felt that something was wrong with the figure ahead. However, among the boys around her, no one seemed to notice anything unusual. Just as she passed under the first streetlight, her footsteps suddenly came to a halt.
At this moment, Xia Xiaoyu suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up, an unconscious chill creeping from her neck... like a bucket of water being poured over her back.
This sensation reminded Xia Xiaoyu of the time she and Lin Xi returned to their dormitory, and the words she had said then...
Was there someone behind her, watching her?
A woman's intuition is quite sharp; Xia Xiaoyu could sense that a pair of eyes was fixed on her. It wasn't constant, but it started when they entered the Small Grove.
A mix of curiosity and fear stirred within her. Sometimes, the unseen is the deepest shadow in one's heart. Xia Xiaoyu suddenly turned around to look.
A gentle night breeze swept through the Small Grove, causing the leaves to sway slightly. In the dark corners, it seemed as if someone was crouching there, quietly observing everything. Xia Xiaoyu turned back, but saw nothing. She quietly surveyed her surroundings, appearing calm, yet her racing heartbeat and increasingly heavy breaths betrayed her fear.
She didn't want to linger in this place any longer; she needed to leave this eerie spot quickly.
Xia Xiaoyu mentally urged herself not to look back, no matter how strange things became.
