"Teacher, I need your help with something..."
Xia Xiaoyu planned to get straight to the point.
"Oh..." Li Hongmei glanced slightly aside. "If you have something to say, just go ahead. I'm about the same age as you all, and I understand your generation well enough. There's no need to be so reserved."
Xia Xiaoyu opened her bag and, under Li Hongmei's curious gaze, took out her phone and flipped through a few downloaded photos. She then handed the phone over and said, "It's like this: can you find out the names of these girls from the previous class?"
Li Hongmei did not immediately respond to Xia Xiaoyu's request. Instead, she studied the photos of the girls on the phone for a moment before looking back at Xia Xiaoyu, her eyes filled with more confusion. "These should be students from recent years, right? Um, what do you need their information for?"
"Um..."
Xia Xiaoyu hesitated; this was difficult for her to explain. She couldn't just say she was investigating a strange and terrifying matter that required this information. Not only did she not know how to start, but even if she did say it, who would believe her?
"Alright, you can leave your phone here. I'll ask some other teachers tomorrow; I'm not too familiar with this university either..." Noticing that Xia Xiaoyu seemed a bit troubled, Li Hongmei understood that girls of Xia Xiaoyu's age often had their little secrets. Some things shouldn't be pried into too deeply. Moreover, through her understanding, Li Hongmei could tell that Xia Xiaoyu wasn't the type of girl who would create trouble for no reason.
"Thank you, teacher..."
Seeing Li Hongmei say this eased Xia Xiaoyu's awkwardness, and she quickly smiled in response.
"Ha ha, it's nothing..."
Li Hongmei placed her phone on the desk and then said to Xia Xiaoyu, "Do you have anything else?"
Xia Xiaoyu shook her head, "No, I'm leaving now. Sorry for bothering you..."
"Sometimes being alone can be quite boring. Come here to sit whenever you have time," Li Hongmei said with a friendly smile.
"Okay, sure..."
Xia Xiaoyu waved goodbye and then exited the Office Building...
The red glow in the sky had faded away, replaced by endless darkness. In a hurry, Xia Xiaoyu descended the eerily dim Staircase Entrance. Fortunately, the concrete path outside still reflected a faint light, though the sky was shrouded in gloom.
However, there were still some Students at the University, their figures barely visible, which eased Xia Xiaoyu's racing heartbeat considerably.
She took a deep breath and began walking along the concrete path back to her dormitory. The further she walked, the quieter it became. By the time she was about to pass through the Small Grove, there was no one around. Xia Xiaoyu glanced at the narrow path that extended into the Small Grove; it was very quiet—unusually so.
The surroundings felt hazy and dim, making it hard to see. It was silent, with only tranquility enveloping this space.
Xia Xiaoyu stared at the dark path ahead. There was no moon tonight; it appeared blurred. Even though there were faint streetlights on either side, the dense foliage in the Forest obscured their light, leaving darkness to envelop the entire Small Grove. At this moment, crickets chirped incessantly from within.
Xia Xiaoyu stood in place for a long time but hesitated to take a step forward. She felt a bit scared; this Small Grove had given her too many heart-stopping moments because of that dream. Xia Xiaoyu felt an overwhelming sense of dread towards this Small Grove...
She really didn't want to go over there alone right now. It was too dark, too eerie...
Xia Xiaoyu turned around to see if any students were coming from the path she had taken. She kept scanning her surroundings, trying to find someone who might be heading to the Old Dormitory at this hour, because even if they weren't together, she could at least follow behind them. That way, she would feel a bit more at ease... not so scared. But unfortunately, Xia Xiaoyu didn't see anyone.
However, to her surprise, when Xia Xiaoyu looked back, she saw a figure just entering the Small Grove from another path. It was somewhat dark and blurry; she could only make out a silhouette since she was quite a distance away from the Small Grove. Given the current lighting conditions, it was impossible to see clearly, but it was definitely a person. She was certain of that, and they were just passing by the Old Dormitory.
From the outline of the shadow, it was clear that it was someone walking toward the Small Grove. The faint light barely illuminated the person's rough outline.
Xia Xiaoyu felt a sudden jolt in her heart, as if a flash of lightning had struck her. Seeing that figure gave her a sense of familiarity, as if she had seen them somewhere before, but in the darkness, it was impossible to make out any details, especially since she was so far away.
But she remembered that when she had looked around earlier, there had been no one there?
