"Give up, leave that place, maybe you can escape!"
Zi Feng looked at Xia Xiaoyu with some amusement and said lightly, her tone devoid of any tension, as if she were discussing something trivial.
"No..."
Xia Xiaoyu firmly rejected the idea. Neither the other girls in the dormitory nor Lin Xi had any reason to make her give up.
She clearly understood that there was something deeper to the whole situation; how could she possibly give up? She needed to get to the bottom of this to resolve her own doubts and to be worthy of Lin Xi.
...
Zi Feng was equally taken aback. Upon hearing this, her expression changed slightly. She had thought that Xia Xiaoyu would give up and leave that place.
If she had done so, then Zi Feng would truly have no intention of intervening.
"Aren't you afraid?" Zi Feng's eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze deep and captivating, filled with curiosity as she quietly observed Xia Xiaoyu.
"I am afraid. What I encounter may seem trivial to you, but I am an ordinary person. I don't have such great abilities. Every time I face it, I feel like I'm scared to death. At night, everyone in the All Dormitory is too afraid to come out; we can only huddle in the darkness, trembling quietly. You think that's pitiful, don't you? But we haven't run away. I don't know what will happen next, but I won't back down until I uncover the truth."
Xia Xiaoyu spoke loudly, as if venting the fear she had experienced over the past few days. She just wanted to find a place to roar loudly and cry out.
However, she couldn't find such a place because no matter where she was, as long as she stopped moving, terrifying things would always catch up with her and scare her half to death.
Is death really that frightening?
Who knows? Every time she encountered these situations, what Xia Xiaoyu thought about was death... because living meant facing it again tomorrow. And no one understood what exactly would emerge from that place or at that time.
No one knows what will happen with each step taken.
They, of course, would not understand their own feelings.
"This matter is not simple. First, you need to investigate and pay attention to the people around you. Even the smallest detail could be the key to unraveling the entire situation. However, this matter is more troublesome than you can imagine!"
Zifeng raised his head and then turned to look at Xia Xiaoyu, saying quietly, "Can you elaborate on what you've encountered these days, as well as the events that transpired…"
"I entered the University, and on the first day, Lin Xi saw a shadow... Yesterday there was a death case, but I feel that everything about it is quite suspicious."
"Wednesday, the same kind of death occurred at a different University? Is that right?" After listening to Xia Xiaoyu's description, Zifeng simply pointed out a few of the most important doubts, yet his expression remained unchanged.
"Yes, that's correct!"
"Actually, you're mistaken in your analysis. To put it simply, your judgment has diverged. If this continues, you'll completely stray from the initial path and achieve nothing." Zifeng smiled calmly as he spoke words that left Xia Xiaoyu astonished.
"Where did my analysis go wrong?" Xia Xiaoyu asked, her face filled with confusion.
"First of all, the victims are all students and under twenty years old. Let's exclude anyone over twenty from society. Then there's the University; doesn't that narrow down the scope significantly? Haven't you learned about elimination methods?" Zifeng said bluntly.
Xia Xiaoyu was taken aback; she hadn't expected that mathematics could apply to such matters.
However, Zifeng's point was not without merit. By eliminating some impossible factors, the scope would indeed become smaller and thus easier to handle.
"Don't get too complacent too soon. This matter is more complicated than you think; it's not something that can be solved just by elimination!" Seeing that it seemed like hope was rising in Xia Xiaoyu's heart, Zifeng felt compelled to bring her back down to reality.
"What else is there?"
Xia Xiaoyu couldn't help but feel puzzled again.
“Wednesday? The number you think they all died on Wednesday is not accurate. Their times of death were 14, 21, and 28. They just happened to encounter Wednesday; have you not considered that their times of death were all seven days apart? In other words, their deaths are separated by seven days and have little to do with Wednesday?”
“How is that possible? I clearly checked thoroughly,” Xia Xiaoyu retorted defiantly.
However, before she could finish her sentence, a flash of realization struck her mind. The term "seven days" felt oddly familiar.
Then it hit her—back when Lin Xi was still alive, she had a huge argument with Liu Feifei and ran out. At that time, she had chased after them and heard eerie crying sounds at University.
Eventually, she found Lin Xi in that dilapidated warehouse next to University. Lin Xi was terrified because she said there was a woman climbing on that broken window.
That woman had said to her, “I will come for you in seven days…”
“Seven days, seven days…”
Xia Xiaoyu felt her entire body begin to freeze up as thoughts raced through her mind. Finally, she realized something.
Lin Xi encountered that incident on Wednesday, the Wednesday before her actual death?
Their deaths had nothing to do with Wednesday, but rather were separated by seven days?
They were all merely seven days apart?
