With the help of the light, she could see relatively clearly on the straight staircase.
However, as soon as she reached the corner, darkness enveloped her. Fortunately, the moonlight spilling from above allowed Xia Xiaoyu to vaguely see her surroundings.
Her heart involuntarily tightened as she stepped on the stairs, producing a hollow sound.
This made Xia Xiaoyu think of her grandmother when she was still alive. Back then, she was very young but always liked to count the stairs while going up.
Every time she ascended, she would count the steps, but ever since her grandmother told her a story about counting stairs, Xia Xiaoyu had stopped doing so...
Her grandmother said that if someone liked to count stairs while going up at night, and if one day there was one less step, that person would die and take the place of the missing step.
Xia Xiaoyu shivered and dared not think further. Even though she didn't know much about the vastness of the world at that time, these terrifying stories still frightened her.
The footsteps echoed hollowly, producing somewhat strange sounds. Finally, after taking more than ten steps on the dark staircase, Xia Xiaoyu reached the rooftop.
Silence was the only way to describe what Xia Xiaoyu saw—very quiet and very blurry. Even with the moonlight, everything remained indistinct.
A strange chill spread throughout her body.
On the rooftop, illuminated by the moonlight, everything appeared somewhat pale and hazy, creating an eerie and sinister atmosphere.
The surroundings were eerily quiet, not a sound to be heard, not even the whisper of the wind.
Xia Xiaoyu suddenly felt a wave of anxiety wash over her as she glanced around. However, just as she was about to look away, she froze. On the edge of the balcony, there sat a little girl.
Although she couldn't see the girl's face, the blurry silhouette and the little braids clearly indicated that it was a young girl.
She sat quietly on the edge of the railing on the sixth floor, and with just a slight move forward, she could easily fall.
Xia Xiaoyu felt a surge of panic and wanted to step closer, but her feet stopped as a chilling thought crept into her mind.
How could there be a child here at this university?
Would she really come to the Girls' Dormitory Building?
Xia Xiaoyu was in a state of confusion. Yet in her mind, thoughts raced as she sensed the temperature drop around her, causing her to shiver.
Ultimately, the only thought left in her mind was to leave this place and go downstairs to her dormitory.
This was not a simple situation. After experiencing so many strange occurrences, Xia Xiaoyu understood that she was facing something terrifying again...
"Sister... Sister..."
Suddenly, just as Xia Xiaoyu was about to leave, a child's tender voice called out from not far behind her.
However, this voice felt elusive, making Xia Xiaoyu shiver involuntarily. She turned around and discovered that the little girl on the railing had somehow turned to look at her from a distance.
The two were quite far apart, so Xia Xiaoyu couldn't see the girl's true appearance clearly. Yet, even from such a distance, she could still vaguely make out the girl's eerily pale face.
The little girl must have been staring at her with wide, watery eyes...
But those eyes gave Xia Xiaoyu an inexplicable chill.
