When Xia Xiaoyu saw that face, she let out a sudden scream and took several steps back.
It wasn't because she saw a terrifying bloody face!
Nor was it because the person looked frightening.
She was very beautiful, with a delicate and petite face, a rounded and pointed nose, and eyes that sparkled like water.
She was pretty, but that wasn't the reason Xia Xiaoyu was shocked enough to scream. The real reason was that the woman in front of her, dressed in white, looked exactly like Chen Mumu!
This was too surprising; Xia Xiaoyu was completely taken aback. After hesitating for more than ten seconds, her mind gradually started to process what she was seeing.
Upon closer inspection, she noticed one distinct difference between the woman and Chen Mumu: the woman's lower lip had a small mole on her chin, which was very small but particularly noticeable.
Chen Mumu did not have a mole on her chin, so Xia Xiaoyu was certain that this woman was not Chen Mumu.
However, the earlier concerns faded away when she saw the woman's true appearance. It wasn't as frightening as she had imagined or like something out of a horror movie.
The woman looked very fair and showed no signs of being different from an ordinary person. At least from this perspective, Xia Xiaoyu felt a sense of relief.
Xia Xiaoyu thought to herself that she had encountered too many strange things lately and tended to think along those lines.
"What are you doing here all alone?" Xia Xiaoyu snapped back to reality and calmed her heart, which had been racing with fear. She then asked.
"I'm waiting for someone..."
With eyes that shimmered like flickering lights, the woman simply uttered those four words stiffly.
Upon hearing this, Xia Xiaoyu felt an inexplicable tightening in her chest. She couldn't quite describe the tone of the voice, but it felt strange—like the sound was forced out and then floated into her ears.
Xia Xiaoyu was somewhat stunned; she was at a loss for words. Even though she was so close, the voice still felt somewhat ethereal.
"Did you see it?"
Just as Xia Xiaoyu was lost in thought, the White-Clad Woman gently uttered another phrase.
"Ah..."
Xia Xiaoyu was startled; it felt as if the words had suddenly emerged. Her heartbeat involuntarily quickened. Xia Xiaoyu shook her head and stammered, "No, I didn't see anyone."
"My name is Wang Xiaojia. If you see him, please call him to find me..." The White-Clad Woman spoke again, but this time her voice had a tone and rhythm that sounded much more pleasant.
"Oh, um, okay!"
Xia Xiaoyu mumbled in response. She no longer felt that something was off about this woman but rather about what she had said.
She mentioned "him." Who was he? She hadn't even been told a name, so even if she saw him, she would surely not know.
Xia Xiaoyu found it somewhat amusing, yet she always felt that the atmosphere was a bit strange. After just a couple of exchanges, she decided to leave.
Inside, Xia Xiaoyu felt somewhat troubled. Perhaps it was due to her mental state these past few days; every night, even the slightest incident would trigger thoughts of those bizarre occurrences.
It seemed that she needed to consult Xu Qian sometime soon to discuss her psychological condition.
The Small Grove was very dark. Despite streetlights spaced twenty meters apart on either side, the darkness in her mind could not be illuminated.
Moreover, this Small Grove left a strong impression on Xia Xiaoyu; passing through this path made it one of her most feared places.
Firstly, it stemmed from her nightmares. Secondly, every time something strange happened, it would be associated with this place or required passing through this shadowy Small Grove.
This area was inherently terrifying, and at night, when it was quiet and still, it became even more eerie.
Xia Xiaoyu disliked this feeling immensely. Her footsteps unconsciously quickened as she kept her head slightly lowered, afraid to glance around because the dark forest frightened her.
However, just as she was about to exit the Small Grove, Xia Xiaoyu's steps halted again. Her gaze turned ahead of her.
Underneath the Dormitory Building stood a cold-faced and indifferent person watching Xia Xiaoyu.
Cao Bao seemed like a different person; his face no longer bore the honest smile it once had. There was no trace of timidity, as if he were a calm and indifferent lake in the darkness of night.
"What happened to you?"
Cao Bao's transformation left Xia Xiaoyu somewhat stunned. It was a complete change—his personality, his expressions, everything was entirely different.
He was cold, even colder than Leng Yuchen, in fact.
Perhaps it was due to the night, but despite the lack of any visible abnormality in his eyes, Xia Xiaoyu still believed rationally that he would not harm her.
"You shouldn't go out at night anymore."
Cao Bao looked at Xia Xiaoyu and reminded her, but his voice sounded ethereal, reminiscent of the first words spoken by the White-Clad Woman under the Red Cherry Blossom Tree.
Empty and colorless.
As Cao Bao's eyes met Xia Xiaoyu's, for some reason, she instinctively lowered her head and avoided his gaze.
He had indeed changed, just as Chen Mumu had said.
