After the first episode of the self-produced show aired, the response was overwhelmingly positive. It quickly climbed several trending lists, and the comments section was filled with praise.
Liang Nian heard the news and asked me out, saying, "Congratulations." He returned to the country with me and, through my introduction, signed a contract with a reputable company in the industry. As for the termination fee from his previous company, I covered it upfront. I want him to work hard; he will have to pay me back in the future.
"What did that post you made a few days ago mean? Do you have someone you like?" Liang Nian's face turned red as he scratched his head and began to explain. He had taken on a new role and had scenes with a certain Best Actress. During filming, he was so nervous about not being able to keep up with her that he flubbed several times. The director was visibly upset, but in the end, it was the Best Actress who came to his rescue.
"Is that what love is? You young people these days," I said with a chuckle. We were having a great conversation and didn't even realize we were in a bar invested by Xie Chengyun. The bartender, well-connected and informed, recognized me immediately and quietly informed the owner.
At one point, I left our booth to go to the restroom.
"Meng Xiaoran?"
I recognized Ye Ran's voice as I looked up; it was indeed her. I had heard from the system that after being blacklisted by Xie Chengyun, Ye Ran faced further punishment from the Supreme Deity. She maliciously altered plotlines, leading to the male lead's dark transformation, and as a result, she was forced to work eight jobs a day until she either collapsed from exhaustion or could return to her original world.
"That's fine; let her experience the consequences of overworking," I thought. She looked much more haggard now; her once elegant and dignified demeanor had completely faded.
"Was that guy you were just chatting with your boyfriend?"
I ignored her as I walked past. But she pressed on, thinking she had hit a nerve: "I knew you could never be with Xie Chengyun; supporting roles can only ever be supporting roles."
"How about it? Are you satisfied with the plot I sent you about that car accident from ten years ago? Ha, if I can't have it, you shouldn't expect to have it either."
I smiled and said, "Ye Ran, sometimes I really envy your skin; it's so well taken care of. Are you trying to provoke customers at work? Do you not want this job anymore? One complaint from me could get you fired. Do you think the system would erase you after losing this job?"
She was momentarily speechless, her face turning bright red.
Around the corner, Liang Nian peeked out:
"The car accident from ten years ago? Is that the one that happened at 7:35 PM with three casualties?"
Both Ye Ran and I were taken aback, looking in the direction of the voice.
Xie Chengyun stood behind Liang Nian, hands in pockets, his expression icy.
"How do you know about that?"
Mentioning this made Liang Nian's face pale; he looked pained and reluctant to recall that tragic disaster.
"That was a long time ago..."
Eight-year-old Liang Nian was wandering alone when he happened to encounter a hurried girl.
Out of kindness, he asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
The girl paused, her steps faltering for a moment before her eyes began to redden:
"I think... I did something wrong.
"Is there still time to make it right?"
The girl’s heart raced as she turned to leave, her steps so frantic that she stumbled several times.
That night, he heard a loud explosion in the distance.
Later on, he passed by that place countless times but never saw that girl again.
Xie Chengyun asked coldly, "You mentioned three casualties; what do you mean by that?"
"After realizing something was wrong, I rushed to the scene. Although it was dark, I could still make out a few people being carried into the ambulance."
The atmosphere became tense.
"It’s impossible, impossible! How could there be witnesses? The system told me that all medical staff and police involved were bribed to keep quiet..."
Ye Ran was on the verge of a breakdown, muttering continuously.
Her gaze fell on me, and her unstable emotions ignited in an instant:
"Is it you? Did you make the system help you? Was it you!"
Someone rushed over to grab me. Xie Chengyun stood in front of me, frowning deeply.
Ye Ran swung her hand and slapped her, causing Ye Ran to fall to the ground with five distinct red marks appearing on her right cheek. Xie Chengyun took the disinfecting wipes handed to her by her assistant and slowly wiped each finger.
"It was my oversight that allowed you to appear in my family's bar. Miss Ye, it seems your madness has flared up, probably due to the number of people in your class. I don't mind helping you relieve some pressure. Now, go to the manager's office and handle your resignation paperwork."
Ye Ran was dragged away by security on either side, her screams fading as they turned the corner at the end of the hallway. It seemed she had been erased by the system.
I carried the nourishing soup I had prepared and took a taxi to the hospital. Familiar with the route, I walked to a certain ward and peered through the small glass window.
On the hospital bed, Xie Chengyun leaned against the headboard, leisurely playing a mobile game. All misunderstandings and conflicts had died that day.
Xie Chengyun, who was naturally intelligent and had been silent for a long time, asked, "If Meng Xiaoran is really dead, then who are you?"
Seeing that the truth could no longer be hidden, I had no choice but to lay everything bare.
He seemed to sense something, turning off his phone and hiding it under his pillow. I shot him an annoyed glance and said, "Don't hide it; I saw everything."
"I see that you've already recovered well; your physical condition has improved significantly, and your reflexes are several times better than average," I remarked.
He continued to grin at me playfully, "Thanks to my sister's thoughtful care."
Half a month ago, I was invited to host a graduation party at a certain university. The stage was temporarily built and not yet decorated. During rehearsal, a loose steel frame suddenly fell down. Xie Chengyun happened to be on site—close to the end of the year, my work kept me too busy, and our time together had drastically reduced. Unable to bear the loneliness, he started leaving work early every day just to hang around with me.
He rushed over to protect me with quick reflexes. In doing so, he ended up in the hospital himself. Fortunately, his injuries were not serious, so at first, I didn't visit often.
One day during my visit, he turned his back to me and said, "Sister, you must be very busy with work, so you don't need to come here often. I have an assistant taking care of me." I could sense the lingering resentment and guilt in his tone.
My visits changed from once a week to three times a week. After feeding him some soup, he pretended to be mysterious: "Sister, extend your hand."
Confused, I did as he asked. He slipped a ring onto my finger.
I was taken aback: "Isn't this...?"
The person who was usually charming and adept in social situations now had flushed ears in front of me: "It's the brooch you gave me. I couldn't bear to throw it away, so I had it made into a ring."
I understood and teased him: "Have you managed to break your habit of reminiscing about things?"
His fair neck turned slightly red as he pushed me down onto the bed.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Warm breath brushed against my neck.
"Everything about the Xie Family should have been mine."
Distant memories flooded back, and I froze; this was something I had taught him when he was young.
"Sister, does that include you?"
I brushed aside the hair from his forehead and looked into his eyes.
"Yes."
(The End)
