"Don't cry like a woman!" Liang Muqi turned around and glared at Xu Yicheng, who was now suddenly enlightened. Xu Yicheng dared not delay for another second; the sound came from beneath the seat in front of him, although it was still pitch black.
The lady sitting in the seat had just been jolted awake by the violent shaking of the vehicle, her eyes still bleary as she looked at Xu Yicheng, who was kneeling on the ground. "I don't care anymore!" Xu Yicheng focused on the lady's slender legs wrapped in stockings, reaching out to grab her ankle and pushing her leg under the chair.
The lady let out a startled cry, staring at Xu Yicheng in disbelief, unable to believe that this renowned physicist would do something so indecent to her. If it weren't for Xu Yicheng's status, she would have shouted "pervert" by now.
Once he moved the lady's leg aside, Xu Yicheng saw something glowing green. He was taken aback: why wasn't it glowing just now? He knew why. Xu Yicheng was blaming Aibo—if you had tried to contact me earlier, I wouldn't have had to search for so long!
"Truly deserving of the title Big Guy; the bigger the head, the dumber it gets," Xu Yicheng muttered as he grasped the Summoning Stone in his hand—he was just venting his frustration.
Aibo stood anxiously on the street, waiting for Xu Yicheng's response. A Fierce Eagle was hurtling towards him with a warhead; he didn't understand what it meant or what to do.
"Aibo!" Xu Yicheng's eyes immediately blurred as if covered by a veil, but he could hear Aibo's voice. Upon hearing Xu Yicheng's call, Aibo seemed even more anxious and punched a nearby taxi, denting it along with its steel frame.
"An Xiaotian needs you to create a Time Portal! Hurry! The bigger, the better!" Xu Yicheng shouted while kneeling on the ground, gesturing wildly at the lady, who was frightened and clutched her chest tightly, trying to squeeze into a corner.
"Is he crazy?" The lady helplessly glanced around at the other passengers in the vehicle.
Aibo, already feeling impatient and somewhat angry, suddenly had an epiphany from Xu Yicheng's words. He looked up sharply at the rapidly descending fireball.
"Sigh..." Fierce Eagle swallowed hard, recalling how much effort he had put into redirecting the trajectory of the Hydrogen Bomb Warhead; it was still going to land and explode.
"It's over." Fierce Eagle closed his eyes. In that moment of closing his eyes, he glanced around with his peripheral vision—looking from his angle, he could only see half of the city now.
"Sir, ground height is still..."
"Shut up!" Xiao Ling was still reporting data for An Xiaotian when An Xiaotian shouted loudly; however, his eyes were opened wide by that shout.
"Huh?!"
Fierce Eagle widened his eyes as he saw a Time Portal forming on the ground that was almost as wide as the street!
At that moment, everything froze.
The Zombie King floated above the Soulless Zombie Horde. Following the increasingly close whistling sound, he looked up at the sky; the deadly warhead was nearly level with the tallest buildings in the city.
The Chaos Sphere he was about to throw was clenched tightly in Zombie King's hand as he stared intently at both Fierce Eagle and the Hydrogen Bomb Warhead plummeting down together.
"Brother Miao..." The Spirit Corps could only think of him as their leader now. They stopped their support and gazed at the reflection of the Hydrogen Bomb and Fierce Eagle against the glass of a mahjong parlor amidst roaring flames behind them.
"Brothers and sisters," George said with pursed lips, "it's nice to meet you all."
On the other side, supporting the fainted Blue Face Hero, Divine Fist reached out and touched Madwoman, who was also standing on the aircraft's body.
"I'm sorry for what happened earlier," Divine Fist said, gazing at the falling missile head as if making a wish upon a shooting star.
"It's okay," Madwoman replied with a relieved smile. "I have a bad temper too."
Just moments ago, An Xiaotian's desperate call over the channel had filled them with despair. Indeed, this mission seemed almost impossible to succeed; even the acknowledged strongest, Blue Face Hero, had fainted from neural overload.
As one nears death, their words become kind. Divine Fist knew that if they didn't reconcile with Madwoman soon, they might vanish with regrets. After all, she was a comrade who had fought alongside them.
Nightmare gripped the Hovercraft's control stick tightly, listening as the howling sound grew from barely audible to deafening.
"Xiaotian..."
Time was running out.
Nightmare lifted his head, watching the snowflakes continuously falling in front of the windshield...
"Uh ah—"
Only a few seconds remained!
Fierce Eagle's arm armor had long switched to charging mode, and the opened cooling wings were releasing white steam due to the high temperature. An Xiaotian's arm armor rapidly transformed at the bicep, sparks flying from the high-temperature machinery!
An Xiaotian knew this was their only chance; just because he had thought of giving up earlier, the trajectory had deviated by two degrees and forty-eight minutes! This slight deviation was fatal in terms of long-range missile accuracy!
But there was no more time left. An Xiaotian couldn't bear to look; he only knew he was pressing down on the Hydrogen Bomb Warhead, and it was flying toward the edge of the Time portal and the street...
As for where it would land, it was left to fate.
Scenes from An Xiaotian's life began to flash rapidly through his mind.
From the day he enlisted, An Xiaotian never imagined living a mundane life. Right now, he couldn't afford to relax even a fraction of his strength on this Hydrogen Bomb Warhead; if he did, it could easily veer off and land in the city instead of near the Time portal.
So now, An Xiaotian had become one with the Hydrogen Bomb Warhead. Either they would explode together in the city or fly into the Time portal together.
But for An Xiaotian, the outcome was the same: sacrifice.
"But isn't this exactly the fate I wanted?" An Xiaotian opened his eyes and in that moment realized he...
Was not facing the Time portal!
Aibo, supporting the Time portal, only heard a violent grinding sound of steel; out of his peripheral vision, he saw a fiery shadow flash past.
"Ah!"
Fierce Eagle, eyes closed again and completely unprepared, crashed into a birch tree before smashing directly into a nearby breakfast shop.
Then came an overwhelming explosion from within the Time portal that instantly shattered any sense of composure; Aibo couldn't withstand the blast noise and quickly retracted the Time portal. The shockwave from the Hydrogen Bomb burst forth with flames in mid-air but was swiftly extinguished.
It was like a firework exploding on the ground; that part of the neighborhood experienced only a bright flash and a loud bang before falling silent.
Then, the entire city fell quiet.
Xu Yicheng stood up and gazed towards U City in the distance where nothing could be seen anymore.
Madwoman and Divine Fist suddenly sparkled with light, turning their faces to look at each other in perfect harmony.
"Warning, warning! A thief has broken into the store! Please leave Mr. Wang's Egg Pancake Shop immediately, or I will call the police right away! Warning, warning..."
A small tracked robot emerged from behind the counter, pointing at Fierce Eagle who was sprawled on the table and chairs amidst shards of glass, shouting loudly.
"Uh... ah..." Fierce Eagle unlocked his head armor, covering his burned arm and leaning against the wall, locking eyes with the house robot in front of him.
"I've called the police, I've called the police!" The small robot said, its display screen showing the interface for dialing 110.
"Hah." An Xiaotian chuckled lightly, "I remember my home has one of this model too."
"Captain An, how are you?!" Xu Yicheng asked eagerly first.
"I'm alive, what else can I say?" An Xiaotian turned around and announced to his concerned Aibo, who was looking at him with worry, "The nuclear threat has been eliminated!"
"Wow—" Lu Sha screamed, excitedly opening her arms in celebration, "I love you, Brother Xiaotian—"
"Haha... huh?!" Qin Weishan hadn't even laughed a few times before he abruptly turned his head in surprise to stare at Lu Sha—what do you mean? Brother Xiaotian is a married man! Are you trying to stir things up, Lu Sha?
They say that drunken words are sincere, but for Lu Sha, it was after narrowly escaping death that she spoke her truth.
Now it was truly out in the open.
"Uh..." Lu Sha's cheeks instantly flushed crimson, her facial muscles twitching as her darting eyes betrayed her feelings, yet she stubbornly retorted, "I... I'm just excited, so what?"
"Ha ha~" Qin Weishan whistled.
"You you you!" Lu Sha attempted to grab Qin Weishan's armored suit, but he was still carrying the unconscious Blue Face Hero, so he had to suppress his anger and plead gently, "Forget what I just said; let's call it even, okay?"
Qin Weishan smiled without replying, glancing at Lu Sha's expression that was about to explode and could only nod in agreement.
"That's what good buddies are for." Lu Sha punched Qin Weishan on the shoulder and tossed her red hair proudly. This made Qin Weishan feel it was a retaliation and he pushed her hard aside.
Qin Weishan intentionally increased his effort to carry Blue Face Hero, involuntarily glancing up at the sky beneath the machine and shaking his head helplessly.
"You two can come back now." Jiao An said as he sighed in relief and released his grip on the control stick, "We need to support Miao Chengmin immediately."
Meanwhile, while the members of The Celestial Warriors and Spirit Corps were immersed in their joy of survival, Zombie King, however, quickly broke free from such emotions.
After all, being on the front lines of battle meant that since Hydrogen Bomb had been dealt with, it was now time to figure out how to handle these Soulless.
"Wah—"
"Wah!"
Although Zombie King lacked sensory perception abilities, the distinctive roars of the Soulless Zombie still sent chills down his arms.
Regaining consciousness, Zombie King immediately turned to look at both sides of the building.
In less than a minute's time, both sides of the buildings were already crawling with Soulless Zombie!
"What?!" Zombie King instantly entered combat mode, "Didn’t we just blow them away?"
The Soulless Zombies before him had already declared war without a word, using their incredible jumping ability to pounce on the floating Zombie King. The Zombie King immediately threw out Black Lightning from both sides, but despite his efforts, one or two of these monsters managed to land on him, followed by four, five, and more!
"Ugh..." The Zombie King was pressed and bitten by so many brutal Soulless, slowly beginning to descend. The attacks from these Soulless Zombies could be partially countered by the Chaos Crystals within him, which could heal his wounds, but if he fell to the ground, the Zombie King would be torn apart without a trace!
"Help me..." The Zombie King no longer had the chance to summon a barrier—his previous strategy had already failed; one misstep led to another. But it seemed no one could save him now...
Suddenly! From the second floor of the fast-food restaurant, a folk song began to play! The serene voice paired with a long, slow melody instantly silenced the murderous Zombie Horde.
"Juanzi! Don’t—" The Zombie King shouted as he pushed away a Soulless Zombie that was biting his face.
Ming Juan, holding a megaphone, closed her eyes slightly as if standing on stage. At that moment, she felt no fear. She knew that Miao Chengmin could hear her and understand because this was a folk song they had once sung together in college.
Ming Juan could have left alive; faced with numerous opportunities, she chose instead to embrace death. "Having faith makes one invincible," was the last thought that crossed her mind.
As she thought about being bitten to death by the Soulless Zombies, the last tear rolled down her cheek... because she could already hear the furious footsteps coming from the stairs behind her.
Holding the megaphone, Ming Juan sang on, then set it down... "Let me finish the first verse... he loves this song... ugh!" A sharp pain tore through her neck, plunging Ming Juan into darkness as the world spun around her.
"Bang!" "Bang!"
On the horizon, a Hovercraft hovered with Nightmares crouched on the open deck, watching as Ming Juan fell from the second floor with her arms outstretched. She unlocked the optical visor on her helmet and slowly lowered her gun. She knew that no bullet could reach her in time.
"Ming Juan—"
Miao Chengmin’s desperate roar echoed like an avalanche, shaking the entire city.
