In a dim and shabby room, a white bedsheet stained with remnants of blood lay across the bed. A metal cage stood nearby, inside which a young and beautiful woman sat, her long hair disheveled over her chest. Her white dress was torn and bloodied, her abdomen slightly swollen, and her body was covered in bite marks. She appeared dazed and sat blankly in the cage. 0

At that moment, a man in a black suit approached the cage. He had delicate features and a hazy expression, reeking of alcohol. The woman looked terrified and quickly recoiled, but behind her was only an endless abyss. 0

Without any mercy, the man pulled her out and threw her onto the bed, roughly tearing at her dress. The woman fought back fiercely, shouting, "Get away from me! I'm pregnant now; you can't..." 0

The man was unfazed. He covered her mouth with his hand, his eyes cold as he sneered, "When you wanted to escape abroad back then, you should have thought about today’s consequences. How could I ever let you go?" 0

The room was filled only with the woman's sorrowful sobs. 0

The baby born from this ordeal was extremely beautiful. Raised by a nanny until the age of three, he was then abandoned by his father in this rundown house. The baby reached out toward the woman, but she looked at him with indifference and disdain, slapping him to the ground and attempting to choke him. 0

The man entered with a stern face, locked the woman back in the cage, and left the baby on the floor. He didn’t care much for his son; he believed it was better for him to be alive than dead. 0

In this dilapidated house, no one taught the baby how to speak. Often without milk to drink and hungry, when his mother pointed to the moss in the corner of the wall, he obediently crawled over to lick it. 0

The man punished the woman for wanting to escape him years ago; he wanted her to suffer and forced her to give birth to their child. The child became a tool for his revenge. 0

Later on, when the baby fainted and was taken to the hospital by his father, upon returning home, the man claimed that he had been disobedient and beat him until he was covered in blood. 0

In this house, no one had ever taught the baby about love. He couldn’t smile anymore; eventually, he couldn’t even cry. By the time he turned five, his heart had already gone numb. 0

As he grew older, the man's beatings became harsher. The baby bore new wounds atop old ones; his skin was broken and bleeding from constant abuse. The man never treated his wounds; infections led to fevers and tetanus—he had endured it all and no longer feared pain. 0

There was too much to hate; eventually, he became numb to it all. 0

The baby’s luck changed when he managed to sneak out and encountered a police officer. In the end, the man was arrested by the police, and the woman escaped—no one wanted him. 0

He followed an elderly lady with white hair home from the street. The grandmother's house had a lovely girl who always smelled sweet like milk—a delightful little bundle that made one want to take a bite. 0

One day, unable to resist, he bit her arm. The girl cried out, and the grandmother told him not to bite people. He had only done it because he liked her so much. 0

He didn’t understand right from wrong; in his memory, that was how his father acted—so that’s what he learned. 0

If Grandma says it's not right, he never did it again. The girl wasn't very good at speaking either, so Grandma taught the two of them to read pinyin together. He used to be called a little madman by women, but the girl gave him a name: Yuan. Grandma's family was also very poor; the house was small, and at night, the two children always slept in the bed while Grandma slept on the floor. When the girl fell asleep, he would quietly hold her. The girl really liked this beautiful baby who never smiled. She often thought about telling him jokes. 0

Until one day, after a nap, the girl woke up. Grandma was nearby mending clothes, and there was no sign of Yuan. The girl cried. 0

Gaoyuan looked at the man in front of him; his name was Gao Wen, and he was his father, the biological kind. Gaoyuan stared at him, his eyes devoid of emotion, as if he were looking at a stranger. "What are you doing here?" Gaoyuan asked. Gao Wen looked at him, his gaze flickering slightly: "Yuan..." 0

"I asked you what you are doing here?" Gaoyuan repeated. Gao Wen was silent for a moment before saying, "I am going abroad." Gaoyuan scoffed, "Haven't you always been abroad?" "This time is different," Gao Wen replied. Gaoyuan remained silent, waiting for him to continue. 0

"This time when I go, I will never come back," Gao Wen said. Gaoyuan nodded: "Then I wish you a smooth journey." Gao Wen looked at him, hesitating to speak. Gaoyuan stood up: "If there's nothing else, I'm leaving." "Yuan," Gao Wen called out to him. Gaoyuan stopped but did not turn around. "Do you hate me?" Gao Wen asked. Gaoyuan remained silent for a long time before answering: "I used to hate you." Gao Wen was taken aback and then smiled: "And now?" "I don't hate you anymore," Gaoyuan said. 0

Gao Yuan looked at him and asked, "Why?" 0

After a moment of silence, he replied, "Because I don't want to waste any more feelings on you." 0

Gao Yuan was taken aback. 0

As he left, many images flashed through his mind. There were scenes of him locked in a small dark room, being abused by Gao Wen, and almost getting hit by a car... But the most frequent images were of him with his grandmother and Li Wan. 0

Gao Yuan closed his eyes and took a deep breath. 0

He had once been filled with hatred for Gao Wen. He hated Gao Wen for locking him in that small dark room, forcing him to live a life devoid of light. He hated Gao Wen for hitting him, for abusing him, which drove him to madness. He hated Gao Wen for ruining his life. 0

He had also hated his mother. He hated her for abandoning him to Gao Wen, subjecting him to abuse. He hated her for leaving him behind. He hated her for making him a child without a mother. 0

He had hated many people and had even hated himself. He thought he would continue to hate forever. 0

But then he met his grandmother and Li Wan. They showed him that there was warmth and beauty in this world. They made him realize that living was a wonderful thing. 0

So he no longer hated. He didn't want to waste his feelings on those people anymore. 0
