After the proposal was successful, Shalolo said she only wanted a private wedding with our parents present.
Without thinking, I agreed.
But the day before the wedding, I discovered her marriage certificate with someone else.
There were still chat records between her and her best friend on my backup phone.
"What if I get found out?"
"Don't worry, we won't be registering; it's just wearing a wedding dress and having a meal with my parents."
"And we've been together for five years; he can't bear to let me go."
Five years of feelings suddenly turned into a joke.
I immediately canceled the wedding and bought a plane ticket to leave the country.

When Shalolo called for the twenty-first time, I had already passed through airport security.
"Babe, I have an urgent matter at work tomorrow. Can we postpone the wedding? It's just us and our parents anyway."
She still hadn't realized that I had packed my bags and left home.
I typed out a long message in the chat box but deleted it just before sending.
Looking at the sweet conversations from before, I couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.
I laughed at the blind version of myself from five years ago.
Tears fell down my cheeks uncontrollably, and after a while, I replied, "Okay, I've canceled it."
A second later, Shalolo sent back, "Love you, hubby! Muah!" along with a cute emoji.
An hour ago, I went to Shalolo's house to pick up a document.
Bending down to pick something up, I discovered the marriage certificate hidden beneath the cabinet.
In the certificate, she and a Pretty Boy were smiling sweetly, their heads together. The smile on her face was one I had never seen before.
The steel seal and official stamp on the marriage certificate repeatedly reminded me that I was a fool, a clown.
But just last week, she had agreed to my proposal.
We had even planned where to go for our honeymoon.
She said she preferred to keep a low profile and didn't want to deal with relatives and friends, so she only wanted a private wedding attended by our parents.
She also mentioned that she was someone who lacked a sense of security and set a one-year trial period for our marriage; only after passing this period could we consider getting the certificate.
After the proposal was successful, I was overjoyed and agreed without a second thought.
But now that I think about it, she really put in a lot of effort to avoid revealing her true intentions.
I had firmly believed that we were each other's only one. I had even sworn to the heavens that I would marry no one but her in this lifetime.
Yet she took all my love from these five years and threw it away like it meant nothing.
Along with the marriage certificate was a spare phone.
I successfully unlocked it using the Pretty Boy's birthday.
Inside, there were not only sweet chat records between her and the Pretty Boy but also countless photos of them together.
Every night over the past five years when she disappeared or made excuses about going to bed early, she was with this Pretty Boy.
I must be the stupidest man in the world to have been deceived by her for five whole years.
She always said she was still young and hadn't thought about marriage.
Now I understand that she didn't not think about marriage; she just never thought about marrying me.
By the time I got off the plane, it was already midnight.
Shalolo didn't come to find me, and I didn't want to deal with her either.
At this moment, I noticed that her personal signature had also changed to Pretty Boy's birthday.
And that Pretty Boy is my cousin, Lin Yulin.
Five years ago, I met her for the first time at a reunion; at that time, she was still Lin Yulin's first love.
Later, when Lin Yulin went abroad to study, I often comforted her, and over time, our relationship became closer.
Initially, I kept my distance because of Lin Yulin, but eventually, I was genuinely moved by her.
When I received the news that Lin Yulin had settled overseas and would no longer return home, Shalolo confessed her feelings to me.
We naturally got together, and on our fifth anniversary, I proposed to her.
But unexpectedly, six months ago, Lin Yulin returned home.
