"Wolf!" Lin Xuemin exclaimed, quickly getting up and shielding Lin Lu behind him.
"What should we do?" Chen Xue panicked, grabbing Li Xue's arm, her face pale. Li Xue trembled in fear, tightly huddling next to Chen Xue.
"Don't be afraid, we have fire," Yan Liming said, throwing burning wood towards the cave entrance in an attempt to keep the wolves at bay.
The flames illuminated the entrance, revealing several pairs of glowing green eyes flickering in the darkness. The low growls of the wolf pack echoed ominously, sending chills down their spines. They advanced step by step, their greedy gazes fixed on the people inside the cave, as if viewing them as a meal.
"This isn't going to work; they'll break in sooner or later!" Lin Lu said anxiously, looking around.
"We need to find a way to break out!" Lin Xuemin said, gripping his entrenching tool with a serious expression.
At that moment, Lin Lu's gaze fell on some rubble and vines piled up in a corner of the cave. An idea sparked in her mind.
"Brother, help me move those stones over here!" Lin Lu urged, pointing to the corner.
"What are you planning to do?" Lin Xuemin asked, confused but still following Lin Lu's instructions to move the stones closer.
Lin Lu didn't answer. She picked up a burning piece of wood and ignited the vines before tying the burning vines to a stone and throwing it with all her might towards the wolf pack. The flaming stone arced through the air and landed behind the wolves, instantly igniting the surrounding dry branches and leaves.
"Awoo—" The wolf pack was startled by the sudden flames and retreated in panic, scrambling to avoid the fire.
"Hurry! Now's our chance!" Lin Lu shouted to everyone.
Lin Xuemin reacted quickly, pulling Lin Lu as they dashed out of the cave. Yan Liming protected Chen Xue and Li Xue as they followed closely behind. Using the cover of the flames, they finally managed to escape from the encirclement of the wolves.
After reaching a safe zone, everyone collapsed on the ground, panting and still shaken.
"Lin Lu, you're so clever! If it weren't for you, we would have all been done for today!" Chen Xue said, her voice trembling with lingering fear as she looked at Lin Lu with gratitude and admiration.
Lin Lu smiled faintly, remaining silent as she gazed into the distance where flames soared into the sky and the howls of wolves echoed faintly. She knew that the danger was not completely over and that greater challenges lay ahead.
Yan Liming walked over to Lin Lu and asked with concern, "Are you okay?" His eyes were filled with warmth and admiration, which brought a slight comfort to Lin Lu.
"I'm fine," Lin Lu shook her head. "What should we do now?"
"We need to leave here quickly and find a safe place," Lin Xuemin analyzed calmly. "The wolves' unusual behavior is very strange; I suspect they are being driven by something."
"Are you saying there's something even more terrifying?" Chen Xue's voice trembled. "What is it?"
Lin Xuemin did not answer. He looked up towards the depths of the forest where darkness loomed, and an unknown fear spread in everyone's hearts.
"Let's find a place to rest for now and make plans when dawn breaks," Yan Liming suggested, scanning the dense woods around them with a slight frown.
"That's all we can do," Lin Xuemin nodded, looking around until he found a relatively open and dry spot. "We'll stay here."
Everyone unloaded their backpacks, and Lin Xuemin and Yan Liming began to set up a temporary shelter while Lin Lu took out water and food from her backpack to distribute to everyone. Chen Xue approached Lin Lu casually and asked, "Lin Lu, why is your backpack half empty?"
"What?" Lin Lu looked down and realized that her backpack was indeed missing many items; the compressed biscuits and purification tablets had vanished, leaving only some scattered belongings. "Where are my supplies?" She rummaged through her entire backpack, her tone tinged with panic.
"How could this happen?" Lin Xuemin, hearing Lin Lu's words, stopped what he was doing and walked over to check. "Did you forget to pack it when you were organizing your things?"
"Impossible, I remember it clearly," Lin Lu replied firmly, her brows furrowed as she tried to recall. "I checked everything before we left; there's no way I could have missed these items."
"Could it have fallen out on the way?" Yan Liming asked, a hint of worry in his eyes.
"No, my backpack has been on my back the whole time; there's no chance it fell out," Lin Lu shook her head. Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind. "Could it be…?" She hesitated, her gaze falling on Chen Xue.
"What is it?" Chen Xue asked, feigning surprise, her eyes flickering. "Are you suspecting someone intentionally took your supplies?"
Lin Lu said nothing, only stared intently at Chen Xue, suspicion filling her gaze.
"Don't say such things!" Chen Xue's expression changed, raising her voice. "We're all companions; how could anyone do something like that!"
"But how could my supplies just disappear for no reason?" Lin Lu countered, her tone laced with accusation.
"Well…" Chen Xue was at a loss for words, her eyes darting away, unable to meet Lin Lu's gaze.
"Alright, this isn't the time to argue," Yan Liming stepped in to mediate, glancing around. "Let's search the area first; maybe they fell nearby."
Everyone began to search carefully in the vicinity, hoping to find Lin Lu's lost supplies. However, after searching for a long time, they still found nothing.
"Any luck? Did you find anything?" Chen Xue approached Lin Lu and asked with feigned concern, though a trace of smugness flickered in her eyes.
"No," Lin Lu shook her head, disappointment and anxiety filling her voice. She knew deep down that someone had tampered with her supplies.
"How could this happen? It's really strange..." Chen Xue said with a feigned look of regret, her gaze intentionally sweeping over Yan Liming, a barely noticeable cold smile curling at the corners of her mouth.
Lin Lu took a deep breath, trying to suppress the anger boiling inside her. She knew this was not the time to confront Chen Xue. She turned to Lin Xuemin and whispered, "Brother, what should we do?"
"Don't worry, I'll think of something," Lin Xuemin said, patting Lin Lu's shoulder. His eyes were resolute, and his tone was gentle yet powerful, providing Lin Lu with a bit of comfort. He then turned to Yan Liming and asked, "Yan Liming, have you found anything?"
Yan Liming had been silently observing the surroundings. Upon hearing Lin Xuemin's question, he withdrew his gaze and shook his head slightly. "No, the terrain here is very complex; it's hard to say if anything has really fallen." His tone was calm, but there was a hint of depth in his eyes that was hard to miss.
"Are we really just going to let this go?" Lin Lu bit her lip, filled with reluctance.
"Of course we can't just let it go," Lin Xuemin said firmly, his expression serious. "First, let's set up a shelter, and then we'll search the area carefully. We must find those supplies."
Lin Lu nodded, knowing that they had no choice but to proceed this way for now. She forced herself to calm down and began helping Lin Xuemin build the shelter. Yan Liming joined in as well; the three of them worked together and soon constructed a simple shelter under a large tree.
Meanwhile, Chen Xue and Li Xue sat nearby, watching them work with expressions of glee, occasionally whispering to each other about something.
"Chen Xue, do you think Lin Lu's supplies might be hidden by you?" Li Xue leaned closer to Chen Xue and asked in a low voice, her tone tinged with excitement and curiosity.
Chen Xue shot Li Xue a sidelong glance and reprimanded softly, "Don't say such things! I'm just speculating whether it might be arranged by the production team."
"But..." Li Xue wanted to say more but was silenced by a look from Chen Xue.
"Don't forget our goal," Chen Xue warned in a low voice, a hint of malice flashing in her eyes. "As long as Lin Lu is eliminated, the final victory will belong to us."
Upon hearing this, Li Xue immediately fell silent, not daring to say more, though excitement still flickered in her eyes.
As night fell, the forest gradually darkened. Lin Xuemin took out a flashlight from his backpack and turned it on, the dim yellow light illuminating a small area around them.
"Let's go; we should look around nearby," Lin Xuemin said to Lin Lu and Yan Liming, then led the way deeper into the woods.
Lin Lu and Yan Liming followed behind Lin Xuemin, the three of them carefully searching every inch of ground with the flashlight's beam, hoping to find the supplies that Lin Lu had lost. However, after searching for a long time, they still found nothing.
"Brother, should we keep looking?" Lin Lu asked dejectedly, her voice filled with exhaustion.
"Let's search for a little longer," Lin Xuemin replied after glancing at his watch; it was already eight o'clock in the evening. "If we still can't find anything, we'll head back to rest and continue searching tomorrow morning."
Lin Lu nodded and continued to search with her head down. Suddenly, she felt as if she had kicked something with her foot. Looking down, she discovered a black metal box half-buried in a pile of fallen leaves.
"What is this?" Lin Lu bent down to pick up the box and asked curiously.
Lin Lu's voice caught the attention of Lin Xuemin and Yan Liming, who both gathered around. The metal box was only palm-sized, its surface covered in scratches and rust, suggesting it had been there for some time and its material was indiscernible.
"Could it be a clue?" Yan Liming speculated, reaching out to take the box, but Lin Lu instinctively pulled away.
Lin Lu couldn't quite explain why she dodged; perhaps her intuition told her that the box was important and shouldn't be easily handed over to anyone. She held onto the box, her fingers tracing the cold metal surface, a strange sense of familiarity washing over her.
"Let's take a look first," Lin Xuemin observed Lin Lu's expression without pressing further, simply suggesting.
Lin Lu nodded, took a deep breath, and slowly opened the box. Inside was a neatly folded Sheepskin Map and a string of numbers etched with strange symbols. The map was clearly hand-drawn; although somewhat rough, it was evident that the creator had put in considerable effort, with mountains, rivers, and trees clearly marked.
"What kind of map is this?" Lin Lu unfolded the map, carefully examining it under the flashlight's beam. However, the directions and markings on the map were unfamiliar to her, resembling some sort of code.
"This area doesn't seem to belong to the activity range defined by the production team," Lin Xuemin pointed to a mark on the map, his brow furrowed with concern.
"Could it be a treasure map?" Yan Liming suddenly spoke up after remaining silent for a while, his tone tinged with excitement.
"A treasure map?" Lin Lu and Lin Xuemin turned to Yan Liming simultaneously, their eyes wide with surprise.
Realizing he had gotten carried away, Yan Liming cleared his throat and explained, "I'm just guessing. After all, who would hide a map in a box out here in the wilderness?"
"He has a point," Lin Xuemin pondered for a moment before taking the map and studying it closely under the dim light. Although he was usually calm and composed, he felt a flicker of excitement at the prospect of unknown challenges and potential rewards.
"What about this string of numbers?" Lin Lu pointed to another item in the box; the symbols were twisted and bizarre, resembling an ancient script she had never seen before.
"Could it be the code to decipher the map?" Yan Liming speculated as he pulled out his phone and snapped a picture of the numerical code. "I'll save this for now and study it later when we get back."
"Be careful!" Lin Xuemin suddenly hissed softly as he pulled Lin Lu behind him protectively.
"What's wrong?" Lin Lu had not reacted yet when Lin Xuemin's actions startled her.
"Shh!" Lin Xuemin did not answer but signaled for them to be quiet, then vigilantly watched the surroundings.
A gentle breeze rustled through the woods, the leaves whispering, and distant, unknown bird calls echoed clearly in the silent night.
"It seems like someone is coming," Yan Liming also sensed something was off and said in a low voice, his tone tinged with tension.
Lin Lu held her breath, carefully listening to the sounds around her. Indeed, she heard faint footsteps approaching from not far away, growing closer, and it seemed there was more than one person.
"We should hide!" Lin Xuemin decisively pulled Lin Lu and Yan Liming behind a large tree, concealing their bodies among the dense foliage.
The footsteps grew nearer, and the three of them crouched behind the tree, not daring to breathe loudly as they anxiously watched ahead.
In the dim light, several figures gradually came into view.
"It's Chen Xue and Li Xue!" Lin Lu recognized the newcomers at a glance and whispered in disbelief.
