He was sitting by the table, drinking alone.
When he saw me, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.
"Why are you here?"
I sat down beside him and said with a smile,
"Brother Lao Yu, Zhang Huai is injured and probably won't be able to help you anymore."
"Why don't you come with me?"
"In the future, I'll bring you more women."
Upon hearing this, Lao Yu's eyes lit up: "Really?"
I nodded, "Of course."
"As long as you're willing, I can help you make money too."
"Think about it, Zhang Huai has several women at home, all of whom were tricked back from outside."
"If we sell the women from his house, wouldn't that be a huge profit?"
"Moreover, I'll give you all the business in the village from now on."
"When the time comes, we'll split it fifty-fifty."
Lao Yu's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Okay, I agree."
"But..."
I glanced at Lao Yu, hesitating to continue.
"But what?" Lao Yu asked.
"Although Zhang Huai is injured, the doctor said he can recover."
"What if he gets better, then..."
I didn't finish my sentence, but Lao Yu already understood my meaning.
He furrowed his brows, pressing his lips together in silence. I watched from the side, a cold smile curling at the corners of my mouth. Lao Yu had indeed taken the bait.
The next day, Zhang Huai was dead. His death was tragic; blood flowed from all seven orifices, clearly indicating he had died from poisoning. Zhang Huai's parents dared not report it to the police because they were also involved in human trafficking. If they called the police, they would end up in prison too. They suspected Lao Yu was responsible, but there was no evidence. Moreover, with Lao Yu being young and strong, they felt they couldn't confront him at all. This matter ended up unresolved.
Zhang Huai's parents hastily buried him, but that night, a torrential rain fell. The rain washed over the grave, displacing the soil. Wild wolves followed the scent and dug up the body. By morning, Zhang Huai's corpse had been devoured beyond recognition. When his mother saw this scene, she fainted from grief.
Lao Yu could no longer hold back; he was coming to take me and Chen Li. Zhang Huai's parents fought desperately, unwilling to let us be taken away. After all, with Zhang Huai dead, we were their only bargaining chips.
"You bastards, don't come any closer!"
"If you take another step forward, I'll fight you to the death!"
Zhang Huai's father stood in front of us with a hoe in hand. His eyes were bloodshot, looking as if he was ready to perish with them. Lao Yu and his group were momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter.
"Old man, you're looking for death!"
"Since you want to die, we'll grant you that!"
Lao Yu picked up a hoe and swung it at Zhang Huai's Father.
Zhang Huai's Father couldn't dodge in time, and his head was smashed, creating a bloody hole as blood gushed out.
"Dad!"
Zhang Huai's Mother screamed and rushed to him.
"I'm going to fight you!"
She clawed at Lao Yu and lunged forward.
Lao Yu raised his foot and kicked her in the chest.
She flew backward, crashing into the wall and spitting out a mouthful of blood.
"Mom!"
Chen Li shouted as she ran toward her.
"Mom, how are you? Are you okay?"
Chen Li cried bitterly, looking heartbroken.
Zhang Huai's Mother opened her eyes and glanced at her, wanting to say something.
However, she couldn't say anything before she took her last breath.
"Mom!"
Chen Li wailed, crying out in anguish.
Seeing this scene, I finally felt relieved.
I watched coldly as they turned on each other like dogs fighting.
Just then, the village chief arrived.
"Stop!"
He shouted angrily, putting an end to the chaos.
