"Mr. Shen, you have asked all your questions, can I leave now?" Su Mengman wanted to leave quickly; she found Shen Xingyu truly terrifying.
"Ms. Su, I haven't finished my questions yet." Shen Xingyu smiled coldly. "Is Jingzhu's death related to you?"
"What did you say?" Su Mengman was somewhat surprised. "Jingzhu's death has nothing to do with me."
"Really has nothing to do with you?" Shen Xingyu raised an eyebrow. "Ms. Su, it seems you won't shed tears until you see the coffin."
"Mr. Shen, I don't understand what you mean," Su Mengman said, feeling a bit guilty.
"Ms. Su, I advise you to honestly tell the truth; that way, I might let you off the hook," Shen Xingyu said impatiently. "If you don't speak up, I'll send you to the police station and let you spend your old age in prison."
"No!" Upon hearing she might go to jail, Su Mengman panicked immediately. "Mr. Shen, I'll talk; I'll tell you everything."
"Go ahead," Shen Xingyu nodded in satisfaction.
"It was Du Qiaoyun," Su Mengman said. "She made me do it."
"What did she make you do?" Shen Xingyu asked.
"She told me to take Jingzhu to the riverbank, and then I pushed Jingzhu down," Su Mengman said. "Mr. Shen, I really didn't mean it; it was all Du Qiaoyun's doing; she instructed me."
"How much did she pay you?" Shen Xingyu knew that Su Mengman wouldn't act without some benefit.
"One... one million," Su Mengman stammered.
"One million." Shen Xingyu scoffed. "You killed your own daughter for one million?"
"Mr. Shen, I was wrong; I was scared of being poor, so I acted foolishly," Su Mengman cried with tears and snot running down her face. "Mr. Shen, please let me go; besides, Jingzhu is already dead; even if you kill me, she won't come back."
"Indeed, Jingzhu won't come back," Shen Xingyu nodded. "But Ms. Su, don't you think you should pay for your mistakes?"
"Mr. Shen, what do you mean by that?" Su Mengman became anxious.
"Someone, break her hands and feet," Shen Xingyu said coldly. "I won't send you to prison; I'll let you fend for yourself out here and be dealt with by others."
"No, Mr. Shen, you can't do this to me!" Su Mengman screamed, but no matter how much she yelled, it was useless.
Soon enough, she became a cripple; her hands and feet were brutally broken.
"Mr. Shen, everything you instructed has been taken care of," Little Ma said from behind Shen Xingyu.
"Mm." Shen Xingyu nodded. "What about the Du family?"
"The Du Group has colluded with the underworld, laundering money and evading taxes. The evidence has been handed over to the police. Now the Du family's stock is plummeting, and negative news is everywhere. They probably won't last much longer."
"That's good to hear." Shen Xingyu smiled with satisfaction; this was his first gift to Du Qiaoyun.
"Mr. Shen, Miss Du said she wants to see you," the secretary said as she entered the office.
"Tell her to leave," Shen Xingyu replied coldly.
"Shen Xingyu, even if you don't want to see me, you should at least meet me for the sake of our past," Du Qiaoyun said, ignoring the secretary's obstruction as she rushed into Shen Xingyu's office.
"Mr. Shen," the secretary looked at him with a troubled expression.
"You can go out for now," Shen Xingyu waved his hand, dismissing the secretary.
He glanced at Du Qiaoyun. After a few days apart, she looked much more haggard. Her eyes were glistening with tears, her cheeks pale, and her hair somewhat disheveled.
She no longer had her former radiance.
