When Shen Xingyu woke up, he found himself lying in a hospital bed. He suddenly sat up, pulled out the IV from his hand, and ran outside.
"Mr. Shen! Mr. Shen!" Little Ma saw Shen Xingyu running out of the ward and chased after him.
Shen Xingyu stopped in his tracks, grabbed Little Ma by the collar, and anxiously asked, "Where is Ye Jingzhu? Where is Ye Jingzhu?"
"Mr. Shen, please don't get agitated," Little Ma said, knowing that Shen Xingyu was emotionally unstable. He reassured him, "I have already sent someone to investigate."
"I asked you where Ye Jingzhu is!" Shen Xingyu roared.
"Miss Ye... she..." Little Ma hesitated, unsure whether to tell Shen Xingyu the truth.
"What happened to her?" Shen Xingyu was frantic; he released Little Ma's collar and held his head in his hands. "You need to tell me quickly."
"She died," Little Ma said.
"Impossible." Shen Xingyu couldn't believe that Ye Jingzhu was dead; he shouted, "She can't be dead."
"Mr. Shen, I know you're hurting, but you have to accept the reality," Little Ma said.
"I want to see her body," Shen Xingyu told Little Ma. "Take me to see her."
"Mr. Shen, I'm afraid that's not possible," Little Ma said awkwardly.
"What do you mean?" Shen Xingyu's heart sank; he had a very bad feeling.
"Miss Ye's body has already been cremated," Little Ma replied.
"What?" Shen Xingyu took a few steps back. "Who ordered the cremation?"
"It was Su Mengman," Little Ma said. "As Miss Ye's only relative in this world, she arranged for the cremation, and we..."
"Only relative," Shen Xingyu scoffed. "A relative who wished for Ye Jingzhu to die."
"Mr. Shen," Little Ma looked at him and gritted his teeth. "Actually, there is a reason for Miss Ye's death."
"What reason?" Shen Xingyu asked.
"I went to find Su Mengman, and she told me that she received a call from Ye Jingzhu saying that she wanted to be discharged from the hospital before she would handle the discharge procedures."
"Then why did Ye Jingzhu want to be discharged?" Shen Xingyu asked.
"I don't know," Little Ma shook his head. "I heard from the nurse that Miss Ye had been emotionally stable until that night when she watched television and decided to discharge herself."
"Television?" Shen Xingyu recalled the romantic date he had with Du Qiaoyun that day. He remembered holding Du Qiaoyun in his arms, and he thought that Ye Jingzhu must have seen it and felt very upset.
"Yes," Little Ma nodded. "I think Miss Ye must have seen Mr. Shen and Miss Du's romantic date. She probably wanted to support you both, which is why she chose to leave the hospital."
"I see." Shen Xingyu hadn't expected that Ye Jingzhu discharged herself to support him and Du Qiaoyun.
"But something happened the very night she was discharged," Little Ma said regretfully. "I heard it was a car accident where the vehicle fell into the river, taking both the car and the person with it."
"Then why is it assumed that she is dead?" Shen Xingyu asked.
"Because the recovery team only retrieved the car," Little Ma replied.
"Isn't there a possibility that Ye Jingzhu was rescued or managed to save herself?" Shen Xingyu inquired.
"Mr. Shen, that's impossible," Little Ma said. "That river leads to the sea, and at that time, the tide was rising. Even someone who can swim wouldn't have survived."
"So Ye Jingzhu must be dead?" Shen Xingyu's heart felt like it was being cut with a knife. If it weren't for him, Ye Jingzhu wouldn't have died.
"There is still no evidence, just speculation," Little Ma answered honestly. "However, based on common reasoning, Miss Ye should be dead."
Shen Xingyu closed his eyes, tears streaming down his cheeks. "How could this happen?"
