I stood on the terrace, feeling the breeze, when my phone vibrated. It was a message from Cui Hai. "Wait for me." I didn't reply. A few minutes later, my phone rang. It was a call from Ma Yuewen.
"Where are you?" Ma Yuewen asked straightforwardly.
"I'm outside."
"I know you're outside; I'm asking which city you're in."
"In Shanghai."
"What are you doing in Shanghai?"
"On a business trip."
Ma Yuewen paused for a few seconds and then asked, "Have you been crying?"
"No."
"I can tell you have."
"I'm really fine."
"I want to see you."
"..."
"I'm coming to Shanghai right now."
"Are you crazy?" I quickly replied, "Even if you come, I won't have time to be with you."
"You don't need to accompany me; I'm just going to test the performance of my new car."
..."
Ma Yuewen kept his word and appeared in front of me in less than two and a half hours.
I went to the hospital entrance to pick him up, and as soon as he got out of the car, he hugged me tightly.
"I missed you," he whispered in my ear.
"I missed you too," I replied, returning his embrace.
At that moment, I saw Cui Hai standing in front of me.
He glanced at me, then at Ma Yuewen, his expression somewhat complicated.
Ma Yuewen let go of me and took my hand, walking up to Cui Hai.
"Hello, I'm Fangfang's boyfriend," he emphasized his identity once again.
Cui Hai smiled faintly, "Hello."
"Fangfang's colleague is okay now, right?" Cui Hai looked at me, his gaze gentle as water.
"She's fine," I pretended not to notice.
"It's getting late; let me give you a ride back," Cui Hai said.
"No need, I can manage on my own."
"You’re unfamiliar with this place; it’s better if I take you both."
Ma Yuewen smirked slightly, "Thank you for your kindness, but with me here, it's no problem."
Cui Hai looked at Ma Yuewen, a puzzled expression on his face.
At that moment, Fang Hui walked over from behind.
She saw me and had a somewhat strange expression on her face.
Then she linked her arm with Cui Hai's.
"Let's go," she said to Cui Hai.
Cui Hai glanced at me before following Fang Hui away.
"We should go too," Ma Yuewen said, pulling my hand toward the parking lot.
"Do you think you're having second thoughts?" Ma Yuewen teased.
"What?"
"Isn't it true that when you see the white moonlight, your heart can't help but ripple?"
I smiled and replied, "Can you really see the white moonlight without feeling anything?"
"I can," Ma Yuewen said without hesitation. "Because my white moonlight right now is you."
After returning from Shanghai, Ma Yuewen and I dated like any ordinary couple, going out occasionally.
He still managed to annoy me sometimes, but he would buy little gifts to cheer me up.
I noticed that my mood had improved significantly; at least I didn't think about Cui Hai anymore.
One night, after a date with Ma Yuewen, it suddenly started pouring outside.
Ma Yuewen walked me upstairs.
"Are you scared of staying alone at night?" he asked.
"What’s there to be afraid of?"
"Since tomorrow is the weekend and I don’t have to work, how about I stay over tonight?"
I hesitated for a few seconds and nodded, "Okay."
Ma Yuewen smiled.
"Hurry up and take a shower," I urged him. "Don’t catch a cold."
I cut off my last thoughts of Cui Hai and decided to accept Ma Yuewen.
This was also the first time Ma Yuewen and I would spend the night together.
I sat in the living room, listening to the sound of water coming from the bathroom, my mind in a jumble.
Just then, Ma Yuewen's phone lit up.
Curiously, I glanced over; it was a WeChat message.
"Yuewen, did you have a good time on our date last weekend?"
"You owe me clothes and a meal as compensation!"
I stared at the screen, feeling an uneasy premonition in my heart.
