I thought I would never have any more interactions with Cui Hai, but unexpectedly, he showed up at my house today.
"Why are you here?" I asked, surprised to see him.
"I just finished my night shift and thought I'd come by to see you," Cui Hai replied.
"We broke up."
"I'm here to pick up my things."
"We're already broken up."
"Fangfang, don't start something."
"..."
I turned around and went back inside, bringing out Cui Hai's suitcase. "You can check it yourself."
Cui Hai squatted down and opened the suitcase, counting the items one by one. "One thing is missing."
"What is it?"
Cui Hai looked at me. "The letter you wrote."
I instantly realized what he meant.
It was the letter I had written to Cui Hai on my birthday.
While we were in a long-distance relationship, I wrote him a letter every day.
But Cui Hai never read any of them.
Now that we had broken up, he remembered he wanted to take those letters with him.
I snatched the envelope from Cui Hai's hand and tore it to shreds right in front of him, throwing the pieces on the ground.
"Can you leave now?"
Cui Hai glanced at the scraps of paper on the floor but didn't say anything.
I returned to my bedroom and slammed the door shut.
After packing his things, Cui Hai noticed a pile of torn letters on the floor.
He calmly said, "Those letters are mine now."
"They're not addressed to you; how can they be yours?"
"But the letters belong to me."
"..."
I picked up those letters and tore them one by one in front of Cui Hai.
"Now they are not yours anymore."
Cui Hai looked at me without saying a word.
Before leaving, he cleaned up all the scraps of paper on the floor and packed them into his suitcase.
The moment the door closed, I knew that my relationship with Cui Hai was completely over.
That night, I woke up to drink some water and caught a glimpse of the moon's shadow on the window.
I walked to the window and looked at the round moon in the sky, feeling a sudden emptiness in my heart.
Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival.
No wonder Cui Hai came to find me.
I turned around and looked at the empty room, feeling even more hollow inside.
I took out my phone and blocked Cui Hai's WeChat and phone number.
From now on, I really would not see him again.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was Ma Yuewen calling.
"Hello?" It was two in the morning; he wouldn't call me at this hour unless it was urgent.
"Fangfang, are you asleep?" Ma Yuewen asked.
"Not yet, what's up?"
"I'm feeling down."
"..."
"I want to find someone to talk to."
"..."
"You haven't slept either; we can keep each other company."
"..."
Ma Yuewen said that Fang Hui and Cui Hai seemed to have had a fight.
"They're fighting; what does it have to do with you?"
"It doesn't concern me, but I want to ask you out."
"......"
"Will you say yes?"
"......"
I remained silent for a long time, and finally, almost unconsciously, I replied with one word.
"I will."
"Then see you tomorrow."
"......"
Ma Yuewen arrived to pick me up from work in a deep blue Porsche Panamera.
The car stopped at the company entrance, attracting quite a few colleagues to gather around.
"Fangfang, who is this?"
"What a handsome sports car!"
"Fangfang, isn't your boyfriend Cui Hai?"
"Who is this handsome guy?"
As I pondered how to explain, Ma Yuewen got out of the car.
He didn't answer my colleagues' questions but instead asked, "Which one of you is Fangfang?"
My colleagues exchanged glances and then pointed at me, saying in unison, "She is."
"Oh, so you are Fangfang." Ma Yuewen walked up to me and naturally took my hand.
"I am Ma Yuewen, your boyfriend."
My colleagues were stunned and quickly found excuses to leave.
