The Yellow Weasel was in a good mood. Although he had lost his physical body, he felt more at ease. Unlike foxes, most weasels that cultivated to become human appeared rather ordinary, and the Yellow Weasel was among the uglier ones of the common folk. Now, with only his Yuan Shen remaining, he could easily find a better "outfit" to wear.
As he was pondering this, he suddenly felt a tightness around his neck, as if something was dragging him forward.
Could it be that someone from the underworld had come to capture his soul?
No! He was a demon, not a human. Even if someone were to capture him, it shouldn't be someone from the underworld. He squinted but could only see a dark line wrapped around his neck, unable to discern what it was.
Fortunately, despite being dragged along, he was still headed toward the city gate. The Yellow Weasel speculated that perhaps an ancestor from a desolate grave had come to rescue him.
Humans walk the Yang path, ghosts walk the Yin path, and demons walk the middle path. When humans die and become ghosts, they see only black and white; when demons die and their Yuan Shen emerges, they see only a strange red hue. Now, the Yellow Weasel found himself stepping on this ground of red light, helplessly being pulled step by step toward the Luoyang River. When he saw Xing Ruyi standing by the riverbank and felt the powerful aura emanating from her, his Yuan Shen couldn't help but tremble.
Indeed, this woman still wouldn't let him go.
Father Tiger's wife couldn't see the Yellow Weasel but felt a chilling wind behind her that made her teeth chatter. Seeing this, Father Tiger tenderly pulled his wife into his embrace while keeping his eyes fixed on the water's surface. "How much longer do we have to wait?"
"Soon!"
Xing Ruyi said as she opened a porcelain cup. The fragrant aroma wafted out, making even the Yellow Weasel lick his lips.
The calm water surface began to ripple, and then the waves gradually expanded into a massive whirlpool. The clear sky was covered by dark clouds, and a cold wind blew at everyone's clothing.
Tiger slowly crawled out of the whirlpool, dragging his broken legs as he emerged from the water!
The Yellow Weasel saw this and felt a flicker of fear in his eyes. Before he could think further, he felt another tightness around his neck and was dragged into the whirlpool. He struggled desperately but couldn't withstand the immense pressure of the whirlpool and was completely pulled in.
Xing Ruyi watched coldly until the water surface returned to calm before saying to the fox, "Set up a barrier? I want him to stay in the water forever so he won't harm anyone else."
The fox nodded and casually tossed a spell into the water.
The Yellow Weasel futilely called out underwater but could do nothing.
He, a demon who had barely managed to cultivate into human form after much effort, had only walked in this world for a few days before becoming a "ghost" at the bottom of the water.
Having dealt with the matter of the Yellow Weasel, Xing Ruyi finally took something out from her sleeve and handed it to Tiger's Mother.
"This is the tear shed by the yellow cow at the moment of its death. If you drop it into your eyes, you will be able to see Tiger."
Tiger's Mother was half-convinced but did as instructed. Sure enough, when the yellow cow's tears entered her eyes, she saw a vague, short shadow standing in front of her. As her vision gradually became clearer, when Tiger's Mother saw her son, tears instantly burst forth.
"Tiger! My poor Tiger!"
Tiger's Mother let out a heart-wrenching cry and reached out to embrace her child, but she grasped at nothing.
Tiger stood there, smiling. He stretched out his hand and slowly brushed across Mother's face. Tiger's Mother felt a cool sensation on her cheek and couldn't help but place her hand there. The sadness continued to spread, but as a mother, after that scream, she gradually calmed down, leaving only the suppressed pain within her.
The child was no longer there; as a mother, she couldn't let her child leave in peace.
"Mother, don't cry! Tiger doesn't hurt anymore!"
"Tiger is good; it's Mother who didn't take care of you well."
"Tiger doesn't blame Mother; you and Father have done your best."
"Tiger, my good child, I never gave you a good life."
"Tiger thinks it’s great; having a loving father and mother is really wonderful. Instead, it's Tiger who was always naughty and made Mother angry. Here, Tiger bows to you both, hoping you can forgive me for being so ungrateful."
"Child—" Father Tiger, the man who always did the hardest labor, couldn't help but shed tears at this moment. His voice was hoarse as he muttered, "It's all my fault; it's my inability that couldn't protect Tiger properly and made your mother suffer too."
Tiger continued to smile but knelt down on the ground. Due to not having lower limbs, this kneeling further broke Tiger's Mother's heart. She pounded her chest in pain as tears streamed down her face. If she hadn't known that Tiger would soon leave, she feared she would have fainted from grief.
"Ruyi, where will Tiger go?"
"To Fengtai Youzhou, along Yellow Springs Road, over Naihe Bridge, drink Meng Po Soup, and enter the cycle of reincarnation!"
"Will he be happy? Will he be alright?" Father Tiger asked earnestly, his gaze unwilling to leave Tiger's side.
"He will be happy, and he will be very, very happy!" Xing Ruyi assured as she exchanged a glance with Tiger.
"That's good! That's good! Tiger has suffered a lot in this life, following parents like us who have no prospects. Now, he has found another path. If Next Life can find a good family, his mother and I can finally rest easy."
Xing Ruyi nodded, "It's almost time. You should say your goodbyes to Tiger properly."
The three of them looked at each other with tears in their eyes. Father Tiger cried quietly while Tiger's Mother was heartbroken. Only Tiger had tears mixed with smiles because he knew he would soon meet his parents again. Sister Ruyi had promised that he would once again be their child. This time, however, he would be very well-behaved, obedient, and would not make his parents worry or upset.
Tiger's shadow grew fainter and then transformed into a wisp of smoke that drifted into the porcelain cup. Xing Ruyi sighed lightly, picked up the cup, and handed it to Father Tiger's wife: "This is the final step. You both should drink a sip each; consider it the conclusion of this life between mother and child, and a continuation of your bond in the next life as family."
Father Tiger's wife naturally could not grasp the meaning behind Xing Ruyi's words. She simply did whatever Ruyi instructed. After wiping their tears, they each took a sip.
The couple felt no discomfort at all. After expressing their gratitude, they linked arms and returned home.
"Isn't it bad for them to forget that child is Tiger?" The fox held Xing Ruyi close with one hand. He knew that after tonight, that couple would no longer remember Tiger or that they once had a child.
"A lifetime of marriage brings a lifetime of love; a lifetime of children brings a lifetime of fate. The past is already gone; why add to their troubles? It’s better for everyone to forget and start anew!" Xing Ruyi leaned against the fox's chest, glanced at the deeply sleeping Yin Yuan, listened carefully to the fox's heartbeat, and gently poked his heart with her finger: "I leave those memories of the neighbors to you; you know I'm not good at this."
"Okay!" The fox replied indulgently without refusing.
