The death of Yanniang was ruled a suicide, as there were no other injuries or signs of struggle; she had drowned. As for who married Yanniang, everyone only saw the Groom, who was handsome and imposing, yet no one knew where he came from or where he lived. He looked unfamiliar, suggesting he was not from Luoyang City. The circumstances surrounding Yanniang's drowning shortly after leaving the city in a bridal sedan chair were shrouded in mystery, especially since the Groom had not been seen since Yanniang's death. Speculations arose, including rumors about marriages during the Tang Dynasty, and when Xing Ruyi heard this gossip, a snow-white fox with drowsy eyes lay before her.
“Come clean, is that handsome groom who married Yanniang actually you in disguise?”
The fox rolled its eyes. “If I were to marry anyone, it would be you. Why would I marry Yanniang?”
“Who knows why you would marry Yanniang?” Xing Ruyi tugged at the fox's tail. “And by the way, mind your words next time. Although I, Xing Gu Niang, have no taboos, I'm not interested in interspecies relationships.”
“If I were more handsome than that Groom, would you still refuse me?” The fox stood up, its laziness vanishing.
“You? Tsk tsk, no matter how you look at it, you're just a fox. The only difference is that you can talk better than other foxes. Even if you shed your skin, you'd just have a pretty fur coat; there's no way that could be compared to being handsome.”
“You've never seen me as a human, so how do you know I'm not handsome enough?” The fox huffed and rolled its eyes again.
“So you really can turn into a person,” Xing Ruyi leaned closer to the fox with a flirtatious expression. “Hurry up and transform for me to see! If you're handsome enough, I’ll take you as my concubine. Oh, by the way, should I prepare some clothes for you? Will you be naked when you turn human or will your fur become clothing? How fascinating! I'm so excited! You dead fox, what are you staring at? Hurry up and change!”
The fox looked at her as if she were crazy but thought to itself how it ended up with such an eccentric woman.
“Hey, my dear fox, don’t turn out too ugly. Although I, Xing Gu Niang, have a strong heart, I can't stand someone with too low of a beauty standard.” Xing Ruyi continued to crack sunflower seeds while watching the fox enter her bedroom.
Oh, why was it her bedroom?
By the time Xing Ruyi realized this and wanted to chase after the Stinky Fox to drag it out of her room, the door to her bedroom opened.
A White Shadow stood silently, a pair of bright, star-like Bright Eyes calmly gazing ahead, their focus landing precisely on his own face. He did not smile, but the clear light in his eyes contained a mischievous glint that made one's heart tremble inexplicably.
A gentle breeze brushed by, stirring his flowing Snow White Robe and blowing through his long Silver Hair that cascaded down to his shoulders, revealing the handsome and flawless face of the man in white. It was only when the wind ceased and the leaves fell that his long, straight Silver Hair elegantly settled back onto the man's shoulders.
"Are you mesmerized?" The man spoke with a gentle voice, like the kindest person in the world, making one feel comfortable and almost intoxicated.
Xing Ruyi shook her head in a daze, staring at the beautiful man before her for a while before suddenly realizing a question: "Who are you? How did you come out of my room?"
"Fool! Is your brain short-circuiting?" The warm and refined beautiful man suddenly changed his demeanor, raising a hand to lightly tap Xing Ruyi on her forehead with his index finger. "Didn’t you ask me to come in and show you?"
"A fox? You are a fox!" Xing Ruyi exclaimed in surprise, not forgetting to rub her forehead.
"Yin Chensi."
The man leaned closer, looking into Xing Ruyi's eyes as his cherry-pink lips softly uttered three words.
"Wha... what?" Xing Ruyi licked her tongue. What should she do? She really wanted to bite down on those pink lips.
Thinking this, she acted on it, but it wasn't until her lips met the warmth of the other’s that she realized what she had done upon seeing the astonishment in his eyes. She quickly stepped back several paces.
"You... you just said what? I didn’t hear it clearly."
"Yin Chensi, my name. From now on, don’t call me a fox." The fox smiled leisurely, his bright eyes fixed on Xing Ruyi's flushed cheeks. "How does it taste? My lips."
"Fox spirit!" Xing Ruyi covered her mouth, glaring at the other person with her eyes, while her heart raced wildly. Seeing him smile again, she quickly turned and fled out the door.
With a loud "bang," she collided into someone's embrace. Before she could look up, a gust of wind pulled her back. Turning around, there was no longer a handsome man like a celestial being, only a snow-white fox with vigilant eyes staring at Chang Tai, who had just barged in.
At that moment, seeing Chang Tai covered in dust with bloodshot eyes, looking like a wild man who had crawled out from some mountain, Xing Ruyi momentarily forgot to ponder whether the beautiful man she had just seen was an illusion created by the fox. She hurriedly helped Chang Tai sit down and asked, "Brother Chang, did you go to catch robbers? Why do you look so disheveled?"
"I found him," Chang Tai said wearily, draining the cup of tea on the table.
"Who?" Seeing his lips cracked, Xing Ruyi quickly filled the empty teacup and handed it to Chang Tai.
"Luo Cheng, the one who caused Madam Xiao's death back then, and now has harmed Yanniang," Chang Tai said as he pulled out several items from his waist and placed them on the table. One was a jade pendant of average quality, but the knot of the pendant was intricately woven. However, its color was somewhat faded, indicating it had been around for some time. Upon closer inspection, there was actually a character "Xiao" carved in the middle of the pendant, likely related to Yanniang's family. There was also a dagger, stained and exuding a strong smell of blood. Lastly, there was a dark brown gourd-shaped bottle sealed with a wooden cork. Xing Ruyi picked it up to smell it and then put it back on the table. "This must contain some kind of drug."
Chang Tai nodded, finishing his second cup of tea before picking up the jade pendant and softly saying, "This jade pendant belonged to Uncle Xiao. When I learned martial arts from him as a child, I often saw him carrying it. This knot was tied by Yanniang; she is very skilled and knows how to make many different knots."
"So Uncle Xiao's death is also related to this person named A Cheng?"
"Yes." Chang Tai nodded again and fell silent for a while.
