Mina was still trying to argue, "But what about his parents? This is real after all, and they don't know about the previous lie. They will definitely stand up for it."
I had considered this possibility before, but his parents lived elsewhere, and we rarely interacted. After my false miscarriage, I hadn't seen them for months. What kind of mindset would I have to tell them that I was pregnant again?
Even if they wanted to keep this child, could they control Xiao Minxing? What would it mean for our marriage?
If killing were not a crime, perhaps he would stab me with a knife when he realized that everything was a scam.
Now, everything was beyond repair.
Mina got up to refill my cup with hot water and gently asked, "So what do you plan to do in the future?"
I looked at her blankly, utterly exhausted.
She sighed again and said, "Forget it for now. You haven't slept all night. Rest first, and we'll think of a way when you're better."
Under her care, I took a shower, changed into her pajamas, drank a cup of hot milk, and lay down on her bed.
Sleepiness washed over me, and I quickly fell asleep without even having a dream.
When I woke up, it was already afternoon. Mina was in the living room working on the computer. When she saw me awake, she quickly put down what she was doing and said, "You're awake! Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I'll order takeout."
I looked at her apologetically and asked, "Aren't you going to work?"
She smiled and said, "You always sleep past ten anyway, so since I'm late, I might as well take a day off."
"Isn't your boss going to be mad at you?" I asked.
Mina immediately raised her eyebrows and said, "He dares? I was on a business trip recently and didn't even have a day off. I worked my ass off for him. Can't I take a day to rest?"
"Alright, you're the boss," I agreed with her.
Mina is an elite at a private company in Haicheng, ranking just below the boss. Taking a day or two off probably wouldn't bother her boss too much, but she is also a very serious person, especially when it comes to work. She has never been careless in that regard, and her life is also well-organized. We belong to two different types of people, and I don't even know how we became friends.
As I was lost in thought, Mina came over with a cup of hot water in one hand and her phone in the other. She poured me some water first and then slowly said, "Xiao Minxing called you. I was afraid it would wake you up, so I turned off the phone. You can check if you want to call him back."
My heart jumped into my throat.
He called me? In my memory, it seemed like all the calls were made by me to him; he had never called me before. Even if there was something to convey, it was always done by his assistant, like inviting me to his parents' house for dinner or accompanying him to some mandatory event that required both of us.
Looking at the missed call on my phone, I felt extremely anxious.
But Mina reached out and took the phone back, saying, "Forget it. If you don't want to call back, then don't. He's not God; he doesn't need everything to go his way. Let's eat first and then I'll take you out to have some fun."
I wanted to say something else, but she directly turned off the phone again and put it away in her bag.
The takeout was from one of my favorite places, and after Mina's encouragement, the gloominess that had lingered for days lifted a bit, so I ate heartily.
Two people came out from her place and drove to a botanical garden in the suburbs. The various beautiful green plants easily lifted their spirits, although she still had a lingering worry about Xiao Minxing's call. Overall, they had a good time.
By the time they got home, it was already past ten o'clock. Mina returned my phone and said, "Darling, if you want to stay here with me, I will definitely welcome you with open arms. But if you are going to grovel to Xiao Minxing here, I really can't stand it. What kind of joke is this? My precious little one, being treated poorly by another man? How can I tolerate that with my temper?"
