I raised my head and looked at the faint lights in the distance, a sense of tension rising in my heart.
"Lu Fan, remember, during this operation, you must follow my orders and not act on your own," Uncle Zhao said to me with a serious tone.
I nodded solemnly, indicating that I understood.
"Let's go." Uncle Zhao got out of the car first, and I followed closely behind as we quickly made our way toward the villa.
The area around the villa was silent, with only the sound of the breeze rustling the leaves. We carefully circled around the villa and found the entrance to the basement.
Uncle Zhao pulled a set of tools from his pocket and began to pick the lock.
"Are you sure this is where Xu Jiayi is being held?" I asked, my tone laced with doubt.
"Don't worry, I've checked it out," Uncle Zhao replied while working on the lock. "I arranged for someone to track the kidnappers; they brought Xu Jiayi here."
"Why did they take her to the basement?" I asked in confusion.
"The basement is more secure, and they can control Xu Jiayi more easily there," Uncle Zhao explained as he opened the basement door.
The basement was pitch black, with only a faint light in the corner.
Uncle Zhao gestured for me to take out my flashlight, turning it on to illuminate the basement's environment.
The basement was very simple, with only a bed, a table, and a few chairs. The corner was piled high with clutter, and the air was filled with a damp smell.
I carefully observed my surroundings and noticed something strange.
"Uncle Zhao, look here," I said, pointing to a corner of the wall.
Uncle Zhao stepped forward and examined it closely, his brow furrowed.
"This is..." Uncle Zhao said in a low voice, his tone filled with gravity.
I felt curious and asked, "What is it?"
"This is a trap; they have set a trap," Uncle Zhao said with a serious expression.
"Trap?" I asked in confusion, not understanding what he meant.
"If we enter the basement directly, it will trigger an alarm, and the kidnappers will find us," Uncle Zhao explained, pointing to an inconspicuous button on the wall. "This button is their alarm."
I suddenly understood and my expression turned serious.
"What should we do?" I asked.
"We must find another entrance and sneak in from somewhere else," Uncle Zhao said after a moment of contemplation, his gaze sweeping around the area.
I looked around and noticed a hole in the corner of the basement.
"Uncle Zhao, look over there," I pointed at the hole and said.
Uncle Zhao walked over, examined it closely, and nodded slightly.
"This hole should lead to another place," Uncle Zhao said, signaling for me to follow him.
I carefully crawled into the hole, with Uncle Zhao following closely behind as we entered the dark cave together.
"Lu Fan, hold on tight," Uncle Zhao's deep voice came from the darkness.
I gripped Uncle Zhao's arm tightly and followed him forward.
The cave was damp and cold, with the air filled with the smell of earth and decay. I found it a bit hard to breathe, my heart racing.
"We've come quite a distance; we should be nearing the exit," Uncle Zhao said as he quickened his pace.
I stayed close to Uncle Zhao, eager to leave this dark and terrifying place as soon as possible.
After what felt like a long wait, we finally saw the glimmer of light at the exit.
Uncle Zhao signaled for me to stop; he stepped forward first to scout the surroundings.
"Safe, we can go in now," Uncle Zhao said, turning around to signal me to follow him.
I followed Uncle Zhao out of the cave entrance, and my eyes brightened as we arrived at an abandoned warehouse.
The abandoned warehouse was filled with clutter, and the air was thick with a damp smell. Moss grew in the corners, casting a dim light over the space.
I looked around and noticed a door in one corner of the warehouse.
"Lu Fan, we’ll go in through here," Uncle Zhao said, pointing at the door.
As we approached the door, I saw that a surveillance camera was installed above it.
"Uncle Zhao, what do we do about this?" I asked.
Uncle Zhao let out a cold laugh and pulled out a specially made card from his pocket, gently placing it over the surveillance camera.
"I've taken care of it in advance," Uncle Zhao said casually as he pushed the door open.
We entered the room and found a bed and a table inside. In one corner of the room stood an iron cage, where a frail girl was locked up.
I recognized her at once; it was Xu Jiayi.
