Chapter 149 Ancient Divine Beast Bilan
Once I reminded him, Cao Qilong quickly reacted, hurriedly wrapping one arm around the neck of the Zombie while using his other hand to take out a Control Corpse Talisman and sticking it onto the forehead of the Furry Zombie. Immediately, the Furry Zombie froze in place.
Seeing that the Control Corpse Talisman was indeed effective, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. However, we couldn't afford to relax even a little, as another Zombie lunged at us...
At that moment, Cao Qilong was still chuckling, completely unaware that another Zombie was charging toward him. Seeing the situation, he shouted, “Senior Brother, dodge!” and began to roll on the ground. Cao Qilong did the same, but they rolled in opposite directions, narrowly avoiding the attack as the Zombie flew past them.
As the Zombie lunged forward and hadn't had time to turn back, I rushed forward, bit my fingertip again, formed a lotus finger gesture, and dripped my blood onto the Peach Wood Sword. With a loud shout of “Break!” I thrust the sword forward, striking right at the back of that Zombie. A flash of golden light appeared as the Zombie was sent flying backward, crashing heavily onto the Ground. However, that Zombie seemed oblivious to any pain; it lifted its gaze and charged at me again. I thought to myself, could I really die here?
Just as I was panicking and unsure how to deal with these Zombies, Cao Qilong shouted for caution. I quickly turned around and saw that not only was the injured Zombie from my blood sword charging at me, but there was also another Zombie coming from behind.
Caught in a pincer attack, I had no chance to evade. I could only raise my sword to face the approaching Zombie, thinking that if I were to die, I would take one down with me.
I charged toward the front Zombie, striking it with my sword and sending it flying several meters away. At that moment, I heard Cao Qilong shout from behind. Turning back, I saw him leap into the air (though it was more of a jump; he just wanted to save me by jumping higher and farther), grabbing hold of the legs of the Zombie that was coming at me!
Even so, it only slowed down the Zombie's speed; it didn't stop it. The strength of that Zombie was immense as it dragged Cao Qilong forward like a dead weight behind a wild horse.
Thanks to Cao Qilong's intervention, I had time to react. I immediately bit my middle finger to draw “heart blood” (as all ten fingers are connected to the heart), then smeared another drop of blood onto my Peach Wood Sword. With a swift strike aimed at the neck of that Zombie, it fell like a kite with its string cut, crashing down with a thud. Meanwhile, Cao Qilong collapsed onto the ground, exhausted and unable to continue fighting.
Fortunately, because I had struck its neck, that Zombie couldn't get up for a while. I then urged Cao Qilong to quickly apply the Control Corpse Talisman while the Zombie was injured. Knowing this wasn't a time for rest, he rolled over and pressed a Control Corpse Talisman onto the back of that Zombie's head before hurriedly moving closer to me. Breathing heavily, he said, “Shidi, what should we do now?”
To be honest, I was also completely worn out at this point. Although we had managed to control two of the Zombies, there were still two more charging toward us.
Seeing Cao Qilong looking exhausted, I suddenly thought of something and hurriedly shouted, “Senior Brother, didn’t you take the Four Spirit Formation’s Bianhan? That thing even makes the Corpse King wary; you should summon it and give it a try!”
Upon hearing this, Cao Qilong immediately became excited and slapped his forehead, laughing foolishly, “How could I forget such a powerful ally!”
After saying that, he went to retrieve the jade pendant to summon Bianhan, while I faced the Zombie to cover for him.
As soon as I engaged with the Zombie, I slashed at one of them with my sword, forcing it back. However, another Zombie next to me swung an arm and sent me flying. It felt as if several of my ribs had been broken, and I crashed onto the Ground, unable to get up.
The Zombies that knocked me away then charged towards Cao Qilong. At that moment, Cao Qilong was holding the jade pendant in his hand. He formed a hand sign, made some gestures, and then chanted incantations before shouting loudly, “Bianhan, appear and slay the ghosts, Urgent Order, command!”
As soon as he finished the command, a golden light flashed from the Ghost Seal in his hand, and a Paper Effigy of Bi'an appeared before us.
Once Bianhan manifested, the two Zombies immediately halted their advance and stared intently at the Paper Craft Bianhan, their expressions quite complex. They seemed torn between wanting to pounce on Cao Qilong and fearing the presence of Bianhan, leaving them momentarily at a loss.
Seeing that Bianhan was indeed effective, Cao Qilong began to laugh heartily, saying that with this thing by his side in the future, he wouldn’t have to fear any evil entities. However, before he could enjoy his victory for long, the two Zombies jumped towards me instead, clearly opting for an easier target.
This startled me; I was already injured, and facing two Zombies at once was overwhelming. I grabbed my Peach Wood Sword and swung it at the first Zombie, then rolled on the Ground, ending up beside Cao Qilong.
Cao Qilong quickly helped me up and said, “After all, Bianhan is just a Paper Craft. It can only defend but cannot attack. What should we do?”
Indeed, the current Bianhan wasn’t truly a deity possessing a paper object; it was merely a manifestation of the deity’s form meant to intimidate the Zombies. Not to mention that over time, the Zombies might realize they had been deceived. Even if they didn’t discover that it was just a piece of paper, I still couldn’t truly deal with these two Zombies in front of us.
Right now, there were only two options: one was to hold onto Bianhan and retreat from the Stone Chamber, back outside into the cave. The other was to completely eliminate these two Furry Zombies, then find a way to open the forward-facing Stone Gate and continue our journey. Turning back was not an option; aside from our current objective, there was also a more formidable entity than a Zombie, known as a Ghost Infant, in Fengdu City. But if we didn’t turn back, what were we going to do about these two Zombies in front of us?
At that moment, Cao Qilong said, "How about we summon Bianhan?"
Hearing this, I immediately felt a headache coming on. I thought to myself, summoning a deity requires some rules; how could Bianhan be summoned here? After all, it is one of the four great evil beasts from ancient times.
According to the "Shen Yi Jing - Northwest Wilderness Classic": "In the northwest, there is a beast that resembles a tiger, has wings and can fly, and it preys on humans, understanding human speech." It is the son of the dragon, the infamous Bianhan.
Bianhan is an evil deity and fierce beast from ancient legends, resembling a tiger and ranking seventh among the nine sons of the dragon. This fellow is said to be quite interesting; legends say that Bianhan not only acts with righteousness and speaks justly but also can discern right from wrong and make fair judgments. Moreover, its imposing image is often depicted at prison gates or crouching on either side of the main hall in official buildings. Whenever the Yamen chief sits in court, its image appears above the administrative chief's plaque and the silence avoidance sign. It watches vigilantly, maintaining the solemnity and integrity of the court. The "Tian Lu Shi Yu - Dragon Species" states: "It is commonly said that there are nine types of dragon offspring, each with their own preferences... The fourth is Bianhan, which resembles a tiger and possesses great power; hence it stands at prison gates."
Although Bianhan is known for its righteousness and ability to discern right from wrong, its nature is still that of an ancient fierce beast that enjoys eating humans. As the saying goes, summoning a deity is easy but sending them away is difficult. What if we manage to summon this fellow and can't send it away afterward?
It's important to note that the two Furry Zombies before us have already given us quite a hard time. If Bianhan were to turn against us after being summoned, we would truly die unjustly. After all, it’s not a deity but merely an ancient evil beast.
I was genuinely afraid of summoning Bianhan; this creature is too unpredictable. Who knows what thoughts might be in its head? If it gets unhappy, that would be disastrous.
At this moment, Cao Qilong grew impatient and asked me, "Are we summoning it or not? Otherwise, we won't have the strength to deal with these two corpses."
Given the urgency of the situation, I didn’t have time to think too much. I thought to myself that if we were going to summon it, we might as well go for it; dying is still dying. At least if we summon Bianhan, there might be a glimmer of hope.
With this in mind, I stomped my foot and agreed with Cao Qilong's suggestion. Then I silently recited the incantation for the Five Element Escape Formation and prepared to summon the ancient divine beast… Bianhan!
As soon as I finished reciting the summoning spell, I clapped my palms together, and a beam of black light shot out. A monstrous creature appeared before us…
