Chapter Eighty-Two: Duel of Paper Spirits
Soon, the Paper Spirit transformed from Duanyang's Father encountered me first. I raised my Copper Coin sword and struck towards its face.
Seeing me swing the Copper Coin sword, it showed no intention of dodging but instead charged directly at me. Just as my Copper Coin sword was about to hit its face, it merely reached out to block the Copper Coin sword.
Perhaps, in its view, my Copper Coin sword posed no threat to it, or maybe it overestimated itself. When the sword struck its hand, a flash of golden light erupted from the blade. Although it did not sever its arm, the powerful True Yang energy from the Copper Coin sword, which had been sprayed with Tongue Blood and recited the Ritual Sword Incantation, still forced it to stagger back several steps!
However, there were two of them. Although I had pushed back the Male Paper Spirit with one strike, at that moment, the Mother Paper King rushed in front of me and kicked towards my chest!
Having just faced the first Paper Spirit's attack, I had no time to dodge when I saw the Mother Paper King kicking at me; I could only brace myself for the blow. The force behind that kick was astonishing; it felt as if I had been hit by a speeding car. My chest tightened painfully, and then my body was no longer under my control as I was sent flying backward, crashing down several meters away...
I felt dizzy and struggled to breathe; then a sweet taste filled my throat, and I spat out a mouthful of blood. I knew that this time I had truly sustained serious injuries!
Enduring the immense pain, I looked ahead. At this moment, the two Paper Spirits were leisurely approaching me. Seeing this, I couldn't help but sigh; it seemed that death was inevitable now!
Indeed, I could barely move now; how could I possibly escape?
Although the Paper Spirits approached slowly, they quickly stood before me in my eyes. The Mother Paper King revealed a smug smile and said, "Today, I will use your life to avenge my son!"
With that, it lifted a foot and kicked towards my head...
Seeing this, I closed my eyes. I knew her strength; this kick could either splatter my brains or send my head flying off like a ball!
As I closed my eyes, images of Master Ma, Grandpa, and Lin Xiaoqi's smiles floated through my mind. Perhaps these three people were the ones I cared about most in this life!
Just as I prepared to wait for death, I felt a gust of wind rushing towards my face from the incoming kick. At that moment when the deadly kick was about to land, another strong wind surged from behind me. Then came a loud "bang," and when I opened my eyes, I saw a tall Paper Figurine standing in front of me. The Mother Paper King's kick was repelled several steps back by this Paper Figurine!
This Paper Figurine was indeed very tall—almost three meters high and over a meter wide—dressed in green ancient armor and looking like an Evil Spirit. Two long fangs protruded from its mouth; it held a steel needle as thick as an arm in its left hand and a massive Hammer in its right!
Seeing this Evil Spirit-like Paper Figurine, how could I not recognize it? With that outfit, wasn't this Thunder God?
Clearly, someone was saving me by creating a Thunder God Paper Figurine and invoking its spirit to block the Mother Paper King's attack. If it had been an ordinary Spirit Communication Paper Figurine, it would have been shattered into pieces under the Mother Paper King's strike.
Who is saving me? Thinking of this, I hurriedly looked around and soon spotted someone not far behind me. Dressed in a long robe with both hands forming seals, he was clearly casting spells for the Thunder God Paper Figurine before me.
This person is none other than Master Ma!
Seeing Master Ma appear behind me, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Perhaps it was because he held the same status in my heart as my grandfather, so with him around, everything felt much more secure.
Master Ma changed his hand seal, and the Thunder God in front of me opened its eyes wide in anger. It raised the large steel nail in its hand and pointed it at the Male Paper Spirit. Then, the large Hammer in its right hand was lifted high and struck down hard onto the steel nail pointing at the paper spirit. First came a crisp "ding," followed by a thunderous roar as a golden lightning bolt shot out from the steel nail in Thunder God's hand, directly hitting the paper spirit...
Due to being too close, the lightning appeared suddenly, and the paper spirit couldn't dodge in time. With a loud bang, the lightning struck its chest, instantly causing black smoke to billow. The paper spirit let out a scream and staggered backward, retreating several dozen steps.
However, this Thunder God was not a true Thunder God, and the lightning it unleashed could not compare to real heavenly thunder. Therefore, although there was a charred mark on the paper spirit's chest about the size of a bowl, with smoke still rising from it, it did not inflict fatal damage. Instead, it became even angrier and charged towards Thunder God with a growl!
Seeing this scene, Master Ma hastened his hand seals even more. The Thunder God raised its steel nail and Hammer again to attack the two paper spirits. However, this time the paper spirits were clever; they did not run in a straight line. When they saw Thunder God pointing the steel nail at them, they began to dodge left and right. As a result, although the thunder roared and shook the ground, the two Paper Figurines were not harmed at all and quickly closed in on Thunder God.
Once they got close, they could no longer evade. A bolt of lightning struck Mother Paper King, sending it flying. However, before Thunder God could turn around to point its steel nail at the paper spirit, one of them grabbed Thunder God tightly from behind. Then with a loud bang, the paper spirit knocked Thunder God down onto the Ground. The paper spirit mounted on top of Thunder God, gripping its head tightly with both hands, then pulled with all its might and forcibly tore off the head of the Paper Figurine made from Paper Craft...
With its head gone, the divine power attached to Thunder God Paper Figurine naturally vanished as well. The paper spirit then ripped this Thunder God Paper Figurine into countless pieces of paper!
On the other side, as soon as Master Ma's spell was broken along with Thunder God Paper Figurine, a muffled groan escaped him as he dispersed his hand seal and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, clearly suffering from severe backlash.
Seeing Master Ma injured made me worry immediately. First, I was concerned for his safety; second, I feared that even Master Ma might not be able to save me this time because now that Thunder God Paper Figurine had been taken down by the paper spirit, those two paper spirits were turning back towards me...
At that moment, I was gravely injured and unable to get up when I saw Master Ma running towards me despite his injuries.
Soon enough, Master Ma reached me and picked up my Copper Coin sword from the ground. He turned to ask if I could still run.
I forced a bitter smile and indicated that I couldn't move anymore. Master Ma said nothing more; he sighed and charged towards the attacking paper spirits with my Copper Coin sword.
Although Master Ma was quite old, his skills were far superior to mine. He dodged left and right skillfully; for a moment, it was difficult for the two paper spirits to land a hit on him. However, while Master Ma's Copper Coin sword struck at the paper spirits repeatedly, it had limited lethality against them and could only push them back.
Thus, Master Ma held off against the paper spirits for about four or five minutes. Gradually, it became clear that he was starting to tire; after all, he was quite old. As his movements slowed down and he faced two opponents alone, he was soon hit by one of them with a punch that sent him flying far away.
Although Master Ma quickly got back up again, blood was already trickling from his mouth corner; he was clearly injured badly.
Seeing this made me feel increasingly hopeless; judging by this situation, it seemed everyone would end up dead at the hands of these two paper spirits!
Master Ma glanced at me and then pulled out two iron needles from somewhere before stabbing them into his own feet, grimacing in pain.
After piercing his feet with the needles, he took out a piece of Yellow Paper, bit his finger to draw blood, and painted a spiritual talisman which he affixed to his chest. Instantly, I saw all the Yang Qi around him surge towards him. Seeing this made me gasp in shock as I shouted: “Master Uncle, no! You can't do that!”
Seeing the yang energy rushing towards Master Ma, I realized what spell he was using; he must have intended to perish alongside the paper spirits. As the saying goes, iron objects do not conduct yin and yang; iron needles can seal off the flow of yin and yang energy. The yang energy in the human body enters through the top of the head and exits through the soles of the feet. Master Ma used iron nails to pierce into the "Foot Yang" from the soles, sealing this meridian (iron objects do not conduct yin and yang), effectively blocking the outflow of yin and yang energy.
The talisman he pressed against his chest was clearly the Gathering Yang Talisman, which rapidly concentrated all surrounding yang energy into his body. It is important to know that a living person remains alive because of the balance between yin and yang energy. If there is too much yin energy, a person becomes weak and ill; if there is too much yang energy, it can also lead to disaster. Whether it is yin or yang, as long as one side is unbalanced, it can harm the body. Master Ma's method of using the Gathering Yang Talisman to quickly absorb surrounding yang energy into his body while being sealed inside by iron nails was essentially a suicidal act!
It is akin to a balloon; if you rapidly pump air into it, eventually, it will not be able to withstand the pressure and will burst. What Master Ma was doing now was just that.
So, I was terrified and my face turned pale as I shouted at him. However, he completely ignored me, merely smiled at me for a moment, and then suddenly produced a steel needle in his hand, charging towards the two paper spirits!
The paper spirits had long wanted to eliminate us to avenge Duan Yang. So when they saw Master Ma rushing towards them, they charged forward to meet him...
Just as they were about to collide, I noticed a smug smile on Master Ma's face. When the two paper spirits were right in front of him, Master Ma stabbed the steel needle directly into his Tianyang Point...
This move was called the Exploding Yang Technique, a method of mutual destruction. Once the needle pierced down, it would instantly cause all yang energy within his body to explode forth. The explosive surge of high yang energy would harm all yin entities or living beings within five hundred steps, and those within ten steps would almost certainly be blown away. Yin entities would be burned to ashes by the yang energy, while living beings would have their souls shaken out of their bodies. Of course, after using this technique, the practitioner would likely suffer severe consequences—mildly resulting in broken Vital Energy or severed meridians, or worse, death.
In Master Ma's case, he first gathered all the yang energy into his body using the Gathering Yang Talisman until he reached an unbearable threshold before employing the Exploding Yang Technique; thus, its power was exponentially increased. Naturally, with increased lethality came no hope for survival for the practitioner.
As soon as the steel needle pierced Master Ma's Tianyang Point, I saw veins bulging on his forehead. Then there was a loud explosion as a violent wave of heat erupted from him like thunder from heaven, shaking the ground violently!
The fierce yang energy from the Exploding Yang Technique sent both paper spirits flying away with sparks trailing behind them as they crashed down a hundred steps away, landing not far from me. I glanced over; both paper spirits had turned into charred remains...
"Master Uncle?" At that moment, I thought of Master Ma and hurriedly looked towards where he had been standing, only to find him lying on the ground motionless, uncertain whether he was alive or dead...
