Chapter Eighty: The Three Evils Formation
A premonition in my heart told me that Liu Lao Er was in Liu Family Village. As long as we remained in Liu Family Village, danger would always loom around us. Although we were many, our opponent was simply too strong; just a mesmerizing soul-snatching technique nearly took all of us down. Therefore, not just me, but everyone present felt anxious and hurriedly got up to rush out of the village!
However, for some reason, even though the village entrance was not far away, we could never seem to reach it. After walking for several minutes, I turned around and was startled to see that the Old Huai Tree was right behind us. This meant that despite walking for several minutes, we hadn't moved forward at all.
This frightened everyone, and the Wang Team asked me what was going on. I shook my head because I didn't know either. I thought to myself, could it be that the road beneath our feet is alive? With each step we take, the road stretches longer? Or have we encountered a Ghost Wall?
A Ghost Wall is a term from folklore and often occurs in places like graveyards or Execution Grounds. Typically at night, those who encounter a Ghost Wall will continuously circle the same area while believing they are walking in a straight line. There is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon, and the explanation in the Yin Yang profession is merely "bewitched by ghosts," meaning one's mind is clouded by Evil Spirits.
At that moment, I opened my Heavenly Eye and looked around, instantly breaking into a cold sweat again. Because I realized that we were not encountering a Ghost Wall at all; we had completely stumbled into a Gathering Yin Pool!
A Gathering Yin Pool refers to places that harbor Yin Qi. It is named so because these places have immense Yin Qi that gathers and does not disperse, resembling a pool of water. If evil spirits or beasts appear in a Gathering Yin Pool, they become extremely powerful; humans who mistakenly enter a Gathering Yin Pool are likely to face dire consequences. Historically, whenever practitioners encountered a Gathering Yin Pool, they either lured the monsters outside to deal with them or sought some ancient treasure—essentially resorting to some blunt methods.
Why did I say we had mistakenly entered a Gathering Yin Pool? It was because I saw that the area was filled with Yin Qi; thick Yin Qi had already formed into Black Mist surrounding us. Such heavy Yin Qi typically only appears in dangerous places like Gathering Yin Pools.
However, I also understood that this couldn't possibly be a Gathering Yin Pool since this place had been inhabited by people before. Although no one had lived here for over twenty years, Gathering Yin Pools are rarely formed through later developments; they are mostly created by innate geographical features. Therefore, I realized I had not intruded into a Gathering Yin Pool.
But if it wasn't a Gathering Yin Pool, why was there such heavy Yin Qi?
Just as I was filled with surprise and doubt, suddenly one of the detectives beside me became agitated and unstable, with several others shouting that they felt dizzy.
Hearing this, I couldn't help but feel worried because it was obvious that their sudden emotional outburst was entirely due to the overwhelming presence of Yin Qi here. In the Yin-Yang Technique, it is believed that a person's life characteristics thrive in an environment balanced between Yin and Yang; excessive Yin weakens a person's Yang Qi, while excessive Yang can make one irritable and restless. This leads us to the theory of Feng Shui, which emphasizes the balance between Yin and Yang. If one stays too long in a place concentrated with Killing Intent or Yin Qi, they are easily influenced, resulting in mild hallucinations and loss of rationality, or in severe cases, becoming weak and dying unexpectedly.
Seeing everyone's faces growing increasingly pale, I dared not delay any longer. I quickly turned around and climbed up the Old Huai Tree behind me, breaking off several branches of the Locust Tree and arranging them into a large arrow shape around everyone.
What I set up was the Split Yin Formation, also known as the Split Yin Spear. This formation primarily uses materials like Ming Stone that belong to Yin to create a massive arrow pointing outward. The Split Yin Spear can divert these Yin Qi or Killing Intent, minimizing their impact on the human body.
This is also why I needed to gather Locust Tree branches. The Split Yin Formation is designed to disperse and redirect Yin Qi, requiring materials that belong to Yin. At that moment, I did not have any materials like Ming Stone, but fortunately, there was a Locust Tree behind me, which is indeed a Yin tree and extremely Yin at that.
There has been a saying since ancient times: "Do not plant Locust Trees behind your house." This is because the Locust Tree is considered a ghostly tree due to its heavy Yin Qi, which easily attracts spirits. In Feng Shui, it is prohibited to plant them near houses. Locust Trees frequently appear in ancient Chinese supernatural legends, and in the myth of the Seven Fairies, there is also mention of the Old Huai Tree. Moreover, many people in folklore have chosen to hang themselves under Locust Trees. In short, Locust Trees are associated with ghosts and possess strong Yin properties!
Once the Split Yin Formation was set up, I could clearly see the Black Mist surrounding us through my Heavenly Eye, rapidly flowing outwards along the branches of the Locust Tree towards the arrowhead...
Soon, as the Yin Qi dissipated, everyone began to feel better. The Wang Team said they had felt dizzy earlier but were feeling somewhat better now and asked me what we should do next since we still couldn't get out.
I thought for a moment and told them that our inability to move was because we hadn't actually moved at all; we had accumulated dense Yin Qi here earlier, causing us to experience hallucinations where our minds felt like we were moving forward when in fact we hadn't moved at all.
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a sense of dread. I then said that now that the Yin Qi had been diverted by the Split Yin Formation, we should be able to leave. So I instructed everyone to follow me and quickly move forward.
This time we indeed did not experience any further stalling; soon we left the Old Huai Tree behind and were getting closer to the village entrance. Just then, a police officer suddenly pointed towards the village entrance and exclaimed, "Look over there! What is that? How come it wasn't there before?"
Following where he pointed, I saw that there was actually a wooden stake standing on the road ahead of us, taller than a person. A sense of unease crept over me because this thing seemed very ominous; it was wrapped in thick Yin Qi, which was emanating from it.
I hurried over and saw that the Wooden Stake was covered in runes and topped with a Yellow Talisman pressed down with a clump of dirt. Upon closer inspection of this Peach Wood Stake, I realized it was actually made from willow wood. Looking at the runes drawn on it made me suddenly understand what it was; I couldn't help but exclaim in shock: "This damn thing is actually the Scattering Yang and Gathering Yin Three Killers Formation!"
Everyone, upon hearing this, anxiously asked me what the "Scattering Yang and Gathering Yin Three Killers Formation" was. I explained that the so-called "Scattering Yang and Gathering Yin Three Killers Formation" is a formation that can divert Yang Qi away while gathering Yin Qi and Killing Intent.
The "Scattering Yang and Gathering Yin Three Killers Formation" is somewhat similar to the Yin-dividing formation I just created using Locust Tree branches. In this formation, a Peach Wood Stake, which belongs to the Yin category, must be used as the focal point. A talisman for scattering Yang and gathering Yin is drawn on the Peach Wood Stake, and then Grave Soil is placed on top of it. This way, the focal point can seal off the entry of Yang Qi while continuously drawing in Yin Qi from outside into the Three Killers Formation. Of course, the so-called Three Killers Formation refers to having three focal points, meaning there are two other Peach Wood Stakes in the vicinity. They form a triangle, creating a triangular formation that prevents Yang Qi from entering and disperses Yin Qi. Once living beings are trapped inside the formation for an extended period, it becomes very difficult for them to survive.
As the saying goes: "Do not plant mulberries in front or willows behind; do not plant Ghostly Clapping in the courtyard." The term "Ghostly Clapping" refers to Poplar trees, which are also known as "Clapping Ghosts" in folklore. When the wind blows, the leaves of the Poplar rustle loudly, sounding like ghostly clapping at night; hence, this tree should not be planted in courtyards. Mulberry sounds similar to "mourning," which is considered taboo; willow sounds like "flow," suggesting that planting willows behind a house could lead to wealth flowing away. Of course, this is merely a folk superstition. In fact, according to Yin-Yang Technique, willows should not be planted behind houses because they also belong to the Yin category and have ghostly properties, making them unsuitable for planting.
The reason this Peach Wood Stake uses willow wood is that it belongs to the Yin category and can effectively channel Yin Qi. The clump of soil pressed onto the Peach Wood Stake must have been taken from a Tomb Mound as Grave Soil, symbolizing Evil Spirit.
After hearing my explanation, everyone hurriedly looked around and indeed spotted identical Peach Wood Stakes in two other directions.
Seeing this Three Killers Formation before me made me realize that we had been set up in this formation due to the sudden influx of so much Yin Qi!
However, breaking this Three Killers Formation is quite simple; it can be dismantled by destroying the Peach Wood Stakes. Its power lies mainly in its ability to create illusions without people realizing it; as the dense Yin Qi quickly dissipates, those trapped inside will soon perish. We had just experienced an illusion ourselves, thinking we were making progress when in fact we hadn't moved an inch.
At this moment, although I was fortunate enough to have noticed something was wrong in time and used the Yin-dividing formation to temporarily mitigate the damage from this Three Killers Formation, I felt extremely uneasy because it was evident that Liu Lao Er had set this up; he had been lurking all along!
Understanding this, I hurriedly called everyone to destroy the Peach Wood Stakes...
