Chapter Sixty-Eight: The Old House No. 7 0

The crimson Main Entrance of the Old House No. 7 opened by itself for us. I brought the Wang Team inside quickly. The Living Room was in disarray, with tables and chairs overturned, and many shattered vases and dishes scattered around, making it look like a fight had occurred here. 0

At the far end of the Living Room, an Oil Lamp quietly burned, casting a dim light that made the room very dark. There was no one in the Living Room, and the Wang Team muttered, "The two people who called the police clearly said it was in Old House No. 7. Why is there no one here?" 0

I found it strange too; with the Oil Lamp still burning in the Living Room, logically speaking, even if there were no people, there should at least be a ghost, right? 0

The Wang Team made a gesture for silence, and everyone stopped, holding their breath to listen for any sounds in the house. However, we remained still for a long time, and the entire old house was eerily quiet, with not a single sound. 0

At this moment, the Wang Team could no longer hold back; he made a searching gesture and signaled everyone to start searching each room. 0

I glanced at the dark staircase on my right side and led two detectives toward it, preparing to check upstairs. 0

The staircase was wooden and creaked easily underfoot, so we ascended quietly. Following the dark staircase to the Second Floor, there were several rooms, and we began checking them one by one. The two detectives seemed concerned for my safety and walked ahead while I closely followed behind them. 0

Of course, it wasn't because I was scared; I was worried about them encountering any danger, so I stayed close in case we faced any situations involving Evil Spirits or something similar. 0

The rooms upstairs were as messy as the Living Room downstairs, with clutter strewn all over. After checking several rooms that were all empty without even a ghostly shadow, we proceeded to the room at the end of the hallway... 0

Soon, we arrived at the door of the room at the end of the hallway. When we pushed on the door, we found that it was locked. All other rooms had their doors open except this one. Should we just give up? That was clearly not an option; what if the murderer who called the police was hiding in this room? Wouldn’t they escape right under our noses? 0

So when the two detectives saw that the door was locked, they shone their Flashlight beside the door and discovered that there was actually a small window on this side of the hallway. One of the detectives then indicated that we should climb through this window. 0

The window was indeed very small; the detective easily dismantled its Board and carefully crawled inside. I was the second one to follow him in. 0

As I squeezed through the window and jumped into the room, I immediately felt something was off; it seemed like I stepped on something sticky beneath my feet. However, since I had just entered an unfamiliar environment, I didn’t have time to worry about such things. I raised my Flashlight and shone it around the room, only to find that it was still empty with nothing discovered. 0

At that moment, the last detective jumped into the room but lost his footing and fell hard. He exclaimed, "What... what is this ground? Why is it so slippery?" 0

As he spoke, we shone our flashlights down at the floor and immediately gasped in shock. No wonder I felt something sticky under my feet as soon as I jumped into the room; it turned out the floor was covered in a dark, viscous substance. 0

The fallen detective was startled and quickly got up from the ground, saying, "What... what is this ground?" 0

Another detective, surnamed Li, took a bit of the substance from his clothes and brought it to his nose to sniff. He then exclaimed in horror, "This is blood!" 0

Upon hearing this, we were all taken aback. The fallen detective's face turned pale as he said, "So much blood; it can't be human blood, can it?" 0

Detective Li replied, "I think it is human blood." 0

I looked at the sticky substance under my feet, which was nearly covering the soles of our shoes, and exclaimed, "There’s so much blood on the floor; how many people could have bled this much?" 0

Detective Li said, "At least four or five people must have bled to produce this much blood." 0

Hearing this made the atmosphere suddenly tense; after all, this room was clearly a murder scene. We then carefully shone our flashlights around the room again. Just then, Detective Li froze as if he had been startled by something. 0

I asked him what was wrong. Officer Li looked a bit panicked and said, "Something just hit me on the head." 0

As he spoke, he shone his flashlight down at his feet and discovered a shoe—an embroidered shoe worn by a woman. 0

Officer Li trembled slightly as he picked up the embroidered shoe from the floor and said, "This is the shoe that hit me." 0

Upon hearing this, we exchanged glances with another detective. After all, there were only three of us in this room; who would throw this embroidered shoe at one of their own? I asked the detective, "Did you throw this shoe?" 0

The detective shook his head and replied, "No!" 0

"Who could have thrown that?" I muttered, and just then, with a thud, another pair of Embroidered Shoes fell down, this time landing directly in Officer Li's arms. 0

Officer Li looked at the red Embroidered Shoes in his hands, his face already pale with fright. He froze for a moment, then slowly raised his head to look above him... 0

At that moment, even we understood that these Embroidered Shoes had fallen from above Officer Li's head. So, I and another detective quickly looked up, and to our shock, we saw a person hanging above us—a woman without shoes! 0

We were terrified; after all, we had been standing here for quite a while. Who would have thought there would be a dead body hanging right above us? The sensation made our scalps tingle. 0

Especially Officer Li, upon seeing the Female Corpse above him, screamed in terror: "Oh my God, a ghost!" He then threw the two Embroidered Shoes he was holding, shaking all over. 0

Indeed, holding onto two shoes that originally belonged to a dead person was an unsettling feeling. Not just Officer Li; even I and another officer were frightened and stepped back several paces. Seeing that the Corpse was motionless, we finally calmed down. 0

At that moment, hurried footsteps were heard coming from upstairs. I knew it was definitely because of Officer Li's scream that the Wang Team, who had been searching on the first floor, was drawn here. 0

Soon enough, voices from the Wang Team came from outside the door, asking if we were in the room. I responded and opened the door from inside. 0

As soon as the Wang Team entered, they asked what had happened. We pointed to above our heads and told them: "There's a Female Corpse up there!" 0

The Wang Team told us to step outside to calm down while they handled the situation with the Female Corpse. Quickly, he noticed the sticky substance on the floor and curiously asked what it was. We informed him it was Human Blood—coagulated Human Blood. This frightened them when they later entered the room; they expressed astonishment that a murder had indeed occurred here. 0

Before long, the Wang Team managed to bring down the Female Corpse. However, when everyone saw what she looked like, they all gasped in shock and exchanged terrified glances. 0

I was puzzled and asked them what was wrong. Was there something off about this Female Corpse? 0

The Wang Team replied with near panic: "This Female Corpse is the same one we brought back last time; how did she come back here?" 0

"What?" I exclaimed in surprise. Seeing everyone with expressions similar to those of the Wang Team made me realize they must not have mistaken her; it seemed this Female Corpse might be significant after all. 0

No one answered Wang Team's question, and the atmosphere became strange. Looking at the Female Corpse in front of us, everyone was at a loss for what to do. 0

In the end, I was the first to speak up. I asked Wang Team: “Wang Team, what do you plan to do with this Female Corpse? How about we burn her?” 0

The reason I suggested burning the Female Corpse was that I always felt something was off about her; she might not be simple. We had been in the room for quite a while, and it was closed off with no wind, yet the Embroidered Shoes on the Female Corpse kept falling onto our heads one by one. This was undeniably strange. Therefore, burning her seemed like the safest option. 0

Wang Team thought for a moment and then said: “We can't burn her. Right now, this Corpse is our only clue. If we burn her, then this trip will have been for nothing.” 0

I understood that I didn't have a say in the case, so since Wang Team didn't want to burn her, I decided not to press the issue further and just hoped that I was overthinking things. 0

With a decision made, Wang Team instructed several detectives to carry the Female Corpse down and take her back to the station. 0

With things settled, I then asked Wang Team if they had found anything on the first floor. Were those two who called the police caught? 0

Wang Team replied: “There wasn't even a ghost on the first floor. Hopefully, we can find some clues from the Female Corpse. Otherwise, this trip will have been pointless.” 0

I wasn't convinced because I always felt there was something wrong with this Female Corpse. After all, they had previously brought this Female Corpse back to the city, but she disappeared that very night. Now she had reappeared here, which was undeniably strange. And those two who called the police were definitely involved with ghosts. 0

After finishing our investigation at House No. 7, we found nothing but the Female Corpse, so we went downstairs and exited the old house. 0

As soon as we stepped out of the old house, one detective exclaimed in surprise: “Hey, where did Xiao Liu and Xiao Yuan go?” 0

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone felt a jolt of alarm. Yes, when we entered House No. 7, Wang Team had arranged for five detectives to guard outside. But now it was empty outside; where had those five gone? 0
