Chapter of the Mass Grave
At that moment, one of the female ghosts threw a Blood-Soaked Bag at me, which scared me greatly because it was clearly a Blood Ghost. These types of ghosts are women who died during pregnancy or in childbirth, filled with heavy Resentment. They are covered in blood, carrying a Blood Red Bloodstained Bag containing bloody and filthy items. If I were to be hit by the Bloodstained Bag in her hand, the blood would splatter on me, and I would be consumed by Evil Energy, leading to possession by Evil Spirits or even losing all my magical power and having my soul taken.
Seeing the Bloodstained Bag coming straight at me, I quickly rolled to the Ground to narrowly avoid it. However, in my attempt to dodge her, another Hanged Ghost seized the opportunity and threw a Rope around my neck. Suddenly, I felt all my strength drain away, and unhappy thoughts began to surface in my mind.
I thought about being all alone with no Relatives, then about how I was originally a Young Man but was forced by my Grandfather to learn the Dog Shit Spell, which landed me in this dangerous situation. In short, my mind was filled with these negative and resentful thoughts.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I became; the more I felt that society was unfair, the more I thought that it would be better to just die. Gradually, I felt like I was losing consciousness. At that moment, another voice deep inside me suddenly said: wake up! I cannot die, I must not die...
Hearing this voice, I quickly shook my head and finally regained some clarity. Realizing that I had been mentally ensnared by that Hanged Ghost and almost had suicidal thoughts.
Understanding this, I struggled to break free from the Hemp Rope around my neck. However, at this point, I had no strength left; it felt like the Hemp Rope was tightening around my neck no matter how hard I pulled.
A sword! I have a sword! With this thought in mind, I summoned the last bit of strength in my body to raise the Paper Sword in my hand and slashed down at the Hemp Rope.
Instantly, the Hemp Rope loosened around my neck, allowing a large breath of air to fill my lungs and finally pulling me back from the brink of death.
However, the danger was not yet over because at that moment another ghost kicked me hard, sending me flying and crashing onto the Ground.
I looked up and saw that I had been thrown out of the circle of ghosts and landed next to the door of a makeshift shed where my previously crafted Paper Figurine lay.
I was overjoyed in my heart, enduring the pain in my body as I hurriedly got up. I dashed to the Paper Figurine in front of me, placed it before myself, bit my finger to draw blood, and smeared it on the eyes of the Paper Figurine to open their sight. Then I chanted a spell to summon soldiers: "Clear Skies, Earth Spirit, Earth Spirit, with one spell to open the heavens, two spells to split the earth, three spells for the Five Direction Deities and Ghost Generals to emerge from the ghost gate, to display their might at the Disciples' Altar... Urgent Order!"
As soon as the incantation was completed, I felt a gust of Yin Wind rush towards me. Suddenly, those Paper Figurines came to life and charged at the ghosts in front of them...
The soldiers I summoned were Yin Soldiers and Yin Generals, also known as Heavenly Soldiers and Generals. Of course, this was just a flattering way of addressing them; in essence, they were simply ghosts from the Underworld.
Those who practice Yin Yang have their own Yin Soldiers and Ghost Generals. They may have previously helped you or sought your assistance; in any case, many ghosts are willing to serve as your soldiers and will obey your commands once summoned. For instance, when drawing a talisman for home protection, the talisman serves as a command. Once issued, a Ghost General will guard it; thus, placing it within a Yang Residence allows it to take effect. If something dirty enters the home, seeing that there is a Ghost General present will naturally cause it to retreat.
Returning to the main point, I had successfully summoned soldiers, allowing me to breathe a sigh of relief for now. The soldiers temporarily held back those ghosts and engaged them fiercely.
Initially, the soldiers were able to gain the upper hand, but soon they faltered because a large number of ghosts suddenly emerged from the Kiln! A wailing sound filled the air as countless ghosts surged forth; it was impossible to count them all as they flooded towards us...
To put it plainly, what I had summoned were indeed ghosts from the Underworld. Seeing so many enemies approaching, they could not help but feel fear. Suddenly, with a sweep of Yin Wind, all the Paper Figurines ignited in flames; clearly, the soldiers were frightened and immediately fled.
Honestly speaking, I was also quite scared; I stood there in shock as I watched the sea of ghosts rushing towards me along with their overwhelming vengeful energy. I nearly sat down on the ground in fright.
Didn’t they say only dozens of kiln workers died here? How could there be so many ghosts? Could it be... could this place be a Chapter of the Mass Grave? Realizing this made me gasp in horror as despair surged from my heart; yes, it was over. This time I was truly doomed...
The Chapter of the Mass Grave refers to places where thousands of people are buried. Of course, it does not necessarily mean that exactly ten thousand people are buried there; it simply indicates that there are many. Chapters of Mass Graves often arise due to ancient wars, plagues, natural disasters, etc. In ancient times, during wars or plagues or natural disasters, large numbers of people would die. In such cases, these numerous corpses would be hastily dealt with by digging a large pit and burying them together.
The danger of a Chapter of Mass Grave lies in their sheer numbers. Additionally, whether killed by enemies during war or executed after being captured or perishing due to natural disasters or plagues—none of these individuals died peacefully; they all met untimely deaths due to violent or tragic circumstances. Thus, their murderous intent and resentment are extremely strong.
It is important to note that generally speaking, any ghost that dies violently carries resentment in their hearts and lingers in the Yin Realm unwilling to descend into the Underworld for reincarnation. They become wandering spirits that harm others everywhere. Ordinary wandering spirits can be collected by Underworld Ghost Messengers or Night Wanderers; however, those Evil Spirits and Vengeful Spirits within a Chapter of Mass Grave are beyond their control.
Perhaps someone might ask, aren't ghosts managed by the Underworld? Why doesn't the Underworld take care of the ghosts from the Chapter of the Mass Grave?
In fact, the Underworld does want to manage them, but there are simply too many ghosts from the Chapter of the Mass Grave, each with endless grievances and resentments. They did not die of natural causes; their lives were taken prematurely during disasters by the Five Direction Plague Gods. Anyone in their position would feel wronged. Once the Underworld accepts them, it must address their grievances, which is a thankless task for the Underworld. Moreover, these Vengeful Spirits were not created by the Underworld; they were all caused by the Five Direction Plague Gods. Thus, the Underworld has pushed the Vengeful Spirits of the Chapter of the Mass Grave back to the Five Direction Plague Gods, who only deal with disasters and plagues and have passed this responsibility back to the Underworld. This game of Tai Chi has been going on for thousands of years, leaving the ghosts of the Chapter of the Mass Grave as unmonitored wandering Vengeful Spirits. The territory of the Chapter of the Mass Grave has become a no-man's land where neither the Yin Realm nor the Underworld nor Heaven takes responsibility.
An old saying goes well: "The Unjust Grave of the Ages, a thousand years crying out for justice." This reflects that very reason. Playing Tai Chi is always a necessary course in officialdom. Perhaps this is how officialdom works; whether in the Yin Realm or in the Underworld, once they start shirking responsibility, they are so smooth and reasonable about it. One wonders if there is a department in the Underworld called "Relevant Department." If there is, it could truly rival that of the Yin Realm.
It is precisely because of this game of Tai Chi between the Underworld and the Plague Gods that the Chapter of the Mass Grave has remained unregulated. The Yin Souls inside have nowhere to seek justice and cannot reincarnate through the Underworld. As their grievances grow heavier and their resentments accumulate over time, it has become a place of great misfortune. The Yin Souls from the Chapter of the Mass Grave continuously harm living beings and commit crimes. Anyone who steps into the vicinity of the Chapter of the Mass Grave will inevitably be hunted down by its Yin Souls and cannot escape death.
One can imagine that in such a no-man's land, if a living person steps in and is claimed by an Evil Spirit inside, then that person's soul will naturally not be retrieved by any Yin Chai from the Underworld. Thus, their soul will remain there, and over time, as resentment accumulates, another Wraith will be added to this place—just like Fu Boss's Brother...
At this point, someone might ask why those Vengeful Spirits from the Chapter of the Mass Grave want to harm others. They are so pitiful yet still cause harm; it indeed seems contradictory.
The reason they harm others is also rooted in cause and effect. All Vengeful Spirits harbor resentment in their hearts and cannot let go of their earthly grievances from the World of the Living, preventing them from reincarnating. Therefore, to reincarnate, they must release their resentment, and there is only one way to do this: by continuously harming others or seeking substitutes. Only then can they vent their resentment and find a substitute for reincarnation.
Of course, even if a Wraith from the Chapter of the Mass Grave dissipates its malevolent energy, it still cannot reincarnate because they cannot enter the Underworld, cross the Bridge of Helplessness, drink Meng Po Soup, or enter Six Paths Gate. The reason for this is that the Underworld does not accept them.
