"Thank you, Lu Shao!" Since Lu Shao was willing to help, the next steps would be much easier. Jiang Chen decided to target Wang Zuofu's Tianfa Trade Services Company first.
The next day, Jiang Chen returned to Nangang City. At Wang Zuofu's company, the sales department staff were lamenting their situation.
"President Wang, the clothing market in Shihu City, Minan Province has stopped purchasing from us. They are now sourcing their clothing exclusively from Dongsheng Group in Nangang City."
"How is that possible? What about our previous customers?" Wang Zuofu was shocked by this news.
"The Lyu Clothing Sales Company has been established in Shihu City, and all the former clothing vendors must now source their goods from this company instead of directly from us, the Tianfa Trade Service Company. The people at Lyu Clothing Sales Company said they are sourcing all their clothing from Dongsheng Group in Nangang City. This means if we want to sell clothing in Shihu City, we have to go through Dongsheng Group," the salesperson explained the situation to his manager.
"I see. Does the owner of Lyu Clothing Sales Company have some sort of backing? Why else would the vendors listen to him? We are also a sales company; they should be cooperating with us instead of Dongsheng Group!" Wang Zuofu felt that things were getting complicated.
Hearing his boss say this made the salesperson even more worried. "Yes, we have never gotten along with Dongsheng Group. With Lyu Clothing Sales Company's actions, won't we lose our market in Shihu City? I heard the owner of Lyu Company is the son of the governor of Shihu City; he has a strong background, and the vendors can't do anything about it."
"We can't afford to lose that market! How about this: I'll give the chairman of Dongsheng Group a call and see what his attitude is!" Wang Zuofu said helplessly.
Wang Zuofu took out his phone and dialed Jiang Chen's number. "Director Jiang, I've heard that now all clothing sales in Shihu City must go through your Dongsheng Group?"
"Yes. Is President Wang's company also selling clothing to Shihu City?" Jiang Chen asked knowingly.
"Yes, Shihu City is one of our main markets. Director Jiang, could we possibly collaborate?"
"Not possible! Didn't you say last time that my Dongsheng Brand clothing sales were poor? So I won't add any trouble for President Wang!" Jiang Chen decisively refused and hung up the phone.
As the dial tone echoed in his ear, Wang Zuofu realized that things were not going well. He should have anticipated this outcome; after all, how had they dealt with Dongsheng Group recently? It was only natural for Jiang Chen to retaliate.
Wang Zuofu instructed his sales staff to put Shihu City on hold and explore other markets instead. However, he had another plan in mind: to use his daughter as a pawn.
That evening, Jiang Chen arrived at the Chamber of Commerce Grand Hotel. Today, Teacher Gong had called to invite him for dinner without mentioning any specific matters. Jiang Chen always felt grateful towards Teacher Gong, so he decided to go.
Upon opening the door to the private room, Jiang Chen was surprised to find not only Teacher Gong inside but also a woman he recognized from Teacher Gong's birthday party—Wang Huanhuan.
Jiang Chen quickly understood that Teacher Gong and Wang Huanhuan were likely dating. But why had Teacher Gong invited him? Was it just to be a third wheel? That didn’t seem appropriate.
"Hello, Teacher Gong! Hello, Sister Wang!" Jiang Chen wasn't sure how to address Wang Huanhuan but ultimately decided on 'Sister.'
"Jiang Chen, you're here! Please take a seat!" both Teacher Gong and Wang Huanhuan greeted him simultaneously.
This time, Wang Huanhuan was very warm towards Jiang Chen, completely different from her attitude during their last meeting. Although her friendliness puzzled him a bit, he didn't dwell on it too much. He assumed Teacher Gong must have said something nice about him in front of her for her attitude to have changed so positively.
The dishes were served, and naturally, Jiang Chen first toasted Teacher Gong, then Wang Huanhuan. After a few drinks, Jiang Chen began to voice his doubts.
"Teacher Gong, you invited me here tonight for a drink; is there something going on?"
"I don't have anything in particular, but your sister Wang insisted that I invite you. She said there's something important to discuss with you!"
"Oh, Sister Wang has something for me?" Jiang Chen looked at Wang Huanhuan, feeling even more puzzled.
Wang Huanhuan nodded, "Yes, Jiang Chen. It's mainly about my father's company; we need your help!"
"Your father's company? May I ask who your father is?"
"Wang Zuofu!"
Oh, so it's him! Jiang Chen finally understood why Wang Huanhuan had been hostile towards him last time; now that she needed his help, she was being friendly.
Damn it, in front of Teacher Gong, Jiang Chen could only agree. "Since President Wang is your father, I'll do my best to help with whatever you need."
Wang Huanhuan smiled and raised her glass to Jiang Chen. "Jiang Chen, let me toast you with this drink as a sign of gratitude! I'll have my father contact you tomorrow!"
"Alright." Jiang Chen clinked glasses with her.
Teacher Gong then also toasted Jiang Chen as a gesture of thanks! He knew that Jiang Chen was agreeing out of respect for him; otherwise, he wouldn't have obliged.
The next morning, Jiang Chen received a call from Wang Zuofu.
After lunch, it was still Jiang Chen who picked up the tab.
"Director Jiang, the clothing market in Shihu City, Minan Province still needs your Dongsheng Group to step in. Can you see if you can help us out?"
"No problem. Since President Wang has asked, how can I just stand by? Just send the clothes your company acquired to us, and we'll ship them together with our own!"
"Great! Thank you, Director Jiang! I'll treat you to dinner tonight!"
That evening, Wang Zuofu invited Jiang Chen to dinner at a regular restaurant to show his appreciation for letting him off the hook. Jiang Chen wanted to learn more about the situation from Wang Zuofu.
In a small private room, it was just Wang Zuofu and Jiang Chen.
"Director Jiang, let me toast you first. Thank you for agreeing to collaborate with me this time!"
"President Wang, no need to be polite. You know I'm doing this for someone else's sake! To be honest, the two things President Wang did earlier were quite underhanded; based on my character, I wouldn't want to cooperate with you again!" After clinking glasses with him, Jiang Chen replied slowly.
Wang Zuofu smiled awkwardly. "Director Jiang, it's a misunderstanding! Since my daughter Huan Huan is dating your teacher Gong Shengli now, once they get married in the future, our relationship will be even closer! So we should strengthen our cooperation moving forward!"
"I'm not opposed to cooperation. However, I've heard that the previous two issues—delayed payments and resisting purchases—were led by you. Now I hope you can take the lead in telling other company owners that I, Jiang Chen, won't hold past grievances against them and that they are welcome to come find me if they wish to cooperate in the future!"
"Director Jiang, your generosity is truly a blessing for us several clothing trading companies! But to be honest, while I did make an appearance in those two matters, the real person in charge was not me!"
"Then who was it?" Jiang Chen asked sharply.
