“Mr. Gu Ming claims that during the duration of your marriage, you used illegal means to transfer joint marital assets. What is your response to this?” A reporter with slicked-back hair thrust a microphone in front of me, his face filled with urgency.
I took the champagne handed to me by my assistant, gently swirling the glass as the golden liquid danced with captivating luster in the weightless environment. “Illegal means? When I started from scratch, Mr. Gu was probably still worrying about repaying his massive debts,” I said with a slight smile, my tone dripping with disdain and contempt. “I gave him opportunities; he simply didn’t cherish them.”
“Are you referring to the time you helped Mr. Gu establish Galactic Logistics?” another reporter seized on my words, eager to dig for more insider information.
“That’s something everyone in the galaxy knows; do I really need to explain?” I elegantly downed the champagne, handing the empty glass back to my assistant before turning to face the swarm of media, my tone turning cold and sharp. “I will say this only once: see you in court!”
With that, I ignored the clamor of the media and strode directly toward the private spacecraft docked outside the space station. My assistant hurriedly followed behind, not daring to catch his breath.
“Notify the legal department; I want Mr. Gu Ming to pay for his foolishness.” The moment I stepped into the spacecraft, my icy voice echoed in the confined space.
Three days later, Galactic Court.
I appeared in the center of the courtroom wearing a fitted black suit. My legal team consisted of elite lawyers from top interstellar firms; they were calm and professional, exuding a reassuring aura.
Gu Ming sat in the defendant's seat, his once vibrant face now marked by weariness and gloom. His legal team seemed somewhat overshadowed compared to mine.
“Plaintiff, do you admit to maliciously transferring joint marital assets during the duration of your marriage?” The judge's voice was deep and authoritative, resonating throughout the spacious courtroom.
“I admit that I transferred some company shares to others, but that was for the long-term development of the company, and I received appropriate compensation,” I replied calmly, meeting the judge's gaze without a hint of panic.
“Defendant, do you have any evidence proving that the plaintiff's actions harmed your interests?” The judge turned to Gu Ming, his tone still stern.
“I... I don’t have direct evidence, but I believe she must have used some improper means!” Gu Ming's voice trembled slightly, his eyes flickering as he dared not meet my gaze.
I let out a cold laugh and turned to look at my chief lawyer. He nodded knowingly and stood up, walking confidently to the witness stand.
“Your Honor, esteemed jurors, we possess substantial evidence proving that during their marriage, the plaintiff consistently supported company operations with her personal assets while the defendant squandered funds recklessly and even embezzled company money for gambling…”
The chief lawyer’s voice was steady and powerful as he presented irrefutable facts and evidence in court. Sitting at the plaintiff's table, I watched Gu Ming’s increasingly panicked expression with no sympathy in my heart—only endless disdain and contempt.
The trial lasted a full week and ended with my complete victory. Standing on the courthouse steps, I watched Gu Ming's desolate figure retreat, a cold smile curling at the corners of my mouth.
"This is the price of betraying me," I whispered softly, turning to leave as the flashing lights behind me elongated my silhouette.
The chief lawyer calmly pulled a stack of documents from his folder and pushed them in front of the judge. "This is Mr. Gu's spending record at the interstellar casino 'Golden Coast,' totaling over one billion star coins. Additionally, we have discovered Mr. Gu's transfer records for maintaining mistresses on multiple planets, as well as recorded conversations where he attempted to bribe the judge."
As soon as he finished speaking, gasps erupted from the audience. I looked coldly at Gu Ming, whose face had turned pale, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as his eyes darted around in panic.
The judge's face darkened as he slammed his gavel. "Silence! Defendant, do you have anything to say?"
Gu Ming opened his mouth but could not produce any sound; he simply slumped helplessly in his chair.
I slowly stood up and walked to the witness stand, my gaze calmly sweeping over everyone in the courtroom before finally landing on Gu Ming. "Years ago, he approached me under a false identity, weaving countless lies to gain my sympathy and trust. I was blinded by his hypocrisy, believing I had found true love, and gave everything to help him make a comeback. And what happened? He only coveted my wealth and status; once he got what he wanted, his true colors were revealed!"
My voice grew colder, as if it came from an icy hell. "He squandered my money while slandering and betraying me outside, even daring to dream of monopolizing the company I worked so hard to establish! Gu Ming, you truly disgust me!"
My words detonated like heavy bombs in the courtroom, sparking murmurs among the audience, their gazes toward Gu Ming filled with disdain and contempt.
After a moment of silence, the judge struck the gavel again and announced, "This court rules that the defendant Gu Ming has lost the case. All claims made by the plaintiff are supported. The defendant must return all property to the plaintiff and compensate for emotional damages..."
As I listened to the judge read the verdict, there was no ripple of emotion within me. The love-hate entanglements of the past had turned into mere wisps of smoke. I won this battle but lost him completely.
Stepping out of the courthouse, the glaring sunlight hit me, causing me to squint slightly. Countless media reporters surged forward, surrounding me with flashing lights.
"Ms. Lin, are you satisfied with the outcome of this trial?"
"Ms. Lin, what are your plans moving forward?"
"Ms. Lin, do you have anything else to say to Gu Ming?"
Facing their aggressive questions, I simply smiled elegantly and left behind a profound statement: "Justice may be delayed but will never be absent."
After speaking, I was escorted by my bodyguard through the crowd and got into the hover car, leaving behind a cacophony of noise.
I waved my hand lightly, signaling the bodyguard to block the reporters' questions, and walked straight towards the hover car parked at the courthouse entrance. The matte black exterior of the vehicle reflected a cold light under the sun, like a silent guardian, isolating me from the chaotic world outside.
"Back to the apartment," I instructed the driver softly while opening my personal terminal to block all incoming calls.
The hover car ascended silently, weaving through the city that resembled a forest of steel. Through the panoramic sunroof, I watched the tiny crowds and vehicles below, feeling a sense of calm as if this protracted lawsuit was merely an inconsequential farce.
Upon returning to my luxurious apartment on the top floor of the city, I wearily pushed open the door, greeted by silence. In the spacious living room, only soft lighting and the twinkling cityscape outside added to the desolation.
I took off my high heels and walked barefoot on the soft carpet to the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the city below that sparkled like countless stars. In the distance, a massive holographic screen displayed news of my legal victory, my name and photo magnified countless times, occupying every corner.
Yet I felt no joy in victory, only an endless emptiness and loneliness.
At that moment, the private communicator on the coffee table suddenly lit up, displaying an unfamiliar number on the screen. I frowned slightly, hesitating for a moment before reaching out to answer the call.
"Congratulations, President Lin. You've won this game," a deep and magnetic voice came through the communicator, laced with a hint of playful amusement.
I tightened my grip on the communicator, a glint of coldness flashing in my eyes. "Who are you?"
