I look quite similar to my sister, but our personalities are completely different. My sister, Su Liuyin, is someone who loves to worry about everything. She doesn’t have to put in any effort; men line up to pay her rent, buy her luxury goods, purchase expensive cars, and cover her travel expenses... Her time is precious, and she spends every minute navigating between those men. I am practical; I love money. She entrusted me with the arrangements for going abroad, and I gladly accepted. While Su Liuyin is overseas, I maintain her chaotic romantic relationships back home. As per our agreement, I take ten percent of what she gets.
My sister is well-liked, and after going abroad, her friends there often reach out to her. When she gets too busy, she passes some of them on to me, and I help her manage them. That day at the cocktail party, I met Li Zhansen. He is a young man, only a few years older than me, but already a big shot in the business world. He has a high net worth and good looks; most importantly, he is young. Being young means having energy.
I held my wine glass and stood among the crowd, gazing at Li Zhansen, who was surrounded by admirers. That day, my sister called me; she said she was tired of playing around and wanted to settle down, hoping I could help her turn down these people. Li Zhansen was the last one.
When he walked over, I was looking down at my phone, reviewing information about the new company I had taken over. “Miss Su,” the man said in a somewhat deep voice as he raised his champagne glass toward me, “long time no see.” I put away my phone and smiled politely without being overly enthusiastic: “Hello, Mr. Li.”
Li Zhansen looked at me with a scrutinizing gaze: “Miss Su, this should be our first meeting, right?” His words carried a hidden meaning that made my heart skip a beat. However, my expression remained unchanged; I even managed to smile without revealing any cracks: “Mr. Li is joking.”
He stared at me, and after a few seconds, he smiled, "I was just joking."
He gently clinked his glass with mine, took a sip of his drink, and said nothing more before turning to leave.
I watched his back as a layer of cold sweat formed on my skin.
Li Zhansen's earlier words were a test for me.
He probably already saw through the game of substitution between my sister and me.
I tightened my grip on the stem of the wine glass, my fingertips turning white from the pressure.
From the first time I met Li Zhansen, I knew this man would be difficult to deal with.
My sister and I look quite alike, but upon closer inspection, our differences become apparent.
My sister is beautiful, but her features are striking, giving off an imposing aura.
I have a slightly softer appearance, less aggressive than hers.
When I clinked glasses with Li Zhansen, he was so close that I could see the color of his pupils.
They were light, a shade of pale amber.
He looked at me as if he had already seen through everything.
That feeling made me feel exposed, as if he had stripped away all my layers and laid me bare before him.
Li Zhansen is too dangerous of a man.
I tilted my head back and downed the wine in my glass in one go.
My thoughts drifted back to a few days ago when I last saw my sister.
She was sitting on the sofa, sipping red wine, looking relaxed. " Jiyue, I'm so tired; I want to take a break."
I looked at her and asked, "So what?"
"Those people—can you handle them for me?" she said casually, "You've helped me with them before."
I frowned and didn't respond.
She looked at me and suddenly laughed, her tone mocking, "You’re not still thinking about doing this for me forever, are you?"
I remained silent.
" Jiyue, sometimes I really think you are great."
Her tone was light, but I could hear the sarcasm in her words.
"But I don't want to be that great."
She tilted her head back and downed the red wine in her glass, looking at me with a calm expression. "I want to be a little freer; I don't want to be entangled by these people anymore."
She looked at me seriously and said, " Jiyue, can you take on my 'emotional debt' for a while?"
With her saying that, I found myself unable to refute her.
I looked at her; she seemed relaxed, even carrying a sense of carefree resignation.
I took a deep breath and nodded, "Okay."
She looked at me and hugged me with a smile.
" Jiyue, thank you."
Her voice sounded muffled in my ear.
I closed my eyes, letting the complex emotions surge within me.
Su Liuyin and I lost our parents when we were very young.
After our mother passed away, our father brought us back home.
But that place was not our home; we were living under someone else's roof.
Our father's relatives all thought we were bad luck, believing we caused our mother's death.
They didn't like us and were unwilling to interact with us.
My sister and I grew up supporting each other.
She is a few years older than me and has always protected me since childhood.
When she entered middle school, she had a good figure and was beautiful, attracting many suitors.
She chose a few wealthy ones for a game of substitution, and that's when it all began.
