At around eleven o'clock at night, Yan Jien finished his meditation.
The long session had left his mind exhausted, but it also brought a benefit: his ability to resist losing control had significantly improved.
"Ha~" Yan Jien exhaled, stood up, turned off the air conditioning, and walked to the window.
He opened the window and breathed in the fresh air, gradually recovering from the meditative state.
"Meditation may be draining, but it does help with controlling impulses," Yan Jien thought.
"First, I'll train, then I'll sleep."
After taking a shower, Yan Jien went to bed.
Although his stomach was growling, he restrained his desire to eat.
"I didn't expect meditation could enhance my ability to control my cravings," Yan Jien was pleasantly surprised.
At 4 a.m., Yan Jien woke up on time.
Feeling the surge of energy within him, he knew that a new wave of cravings was about to hit.
"Time to meditate!" Yan Jien said without hesitation.
Counting Breath Meditation is a basic meditation technique that primarily focuses on counting breaths to achieve inner concentration and purify the mind.
What Yan Jien needed to do now was to use this counting method to control his cravings!
"1, 2, 3..."
Yan Jien began counting his breaths.
This time, counting felt different from before.
In the past, he counted breaths merely to calm his mind and enter a meditative state.
But this time, he was counting to control his cravings!
Yan Jien focused all his attention, repeatedly counting his breaths.
"1, 2, 3..."
The sun gradually rose.
"78, 79, 80..."
His cravings intensified rapidly.
"81, 82, 83..."
A strange itch erupted deep within his spine.
"84, 85..."
Yan Jien lay down on the floor.
"86, 87, 88..."
The sun rose above the horizon.
"89, 90..."
The desire to eat reached its peak.
"91, 92..."
The sun climbed higher.
"93, 94..."
The desire to eat quickly diminished.
"95, 96..."
The strange itch faded away.
"97, 98..."
The mind became clear.
"99, 100..."
Yan Jien stopped counting breaths.
"This time, I counted for a full 65 breaths, better than any previous attempt!" Yan Jien exclaimed in surprise.
"And I managed to keep counting even when my desire to eat peaked, which has never happened before!"
"This indicates that my ability to resist losing control has strengthened again!" Yan Jien concluded.
"If I had meditated a bit longer last night, or if dawn had come a little later, perhaps I could have lasted even longer!" Yan Jien hoped.
"But now is not the time to think about that; I need to record the data first!" Yan Jien picked up a pen.
After recording the data, Yan Jien went to take a shower.
After showering, Yan Jien headed to work.
On the way, Yan Jien pondered.
"So far, meditation has helped with controlling loss of control, but its effects are limited. To fully manage it, I need to focus on evolution itself!"
"In other words, I need to find a larger prey and test whether increasing my food intake affects the intervals of losing control," Yan Jien thought.
"But where can I find larger prey?" Yan Jien frowned.
Normal methods wouldn't work; the only option was to catch it himself.
"If I'm catching it myself, the city won't do; I'll have to go to the countryside," Yan Jien considered.
"And it has to be a more remote area."
"But I don't know the way at all," Yan Jien sighed in frustration.
"Oh right, I can rent a car!" Yan Jien suddenly had an idea.
"Rent a truck and go to Huixian Livestock Trading Market; there must be big game there!" Yan Jien exclaimed excitedly.
"But I need to be careful; I can't let anyone follow me!" Yan Jien thought.
"First, I need to ask for leave from the company, then rent a car, and finally head to Huixian!" Yan Jien made a decision.
After arriving at the company, Yan Jien asked Hu Pei'er for leave, saying there was an urgent matter at home.
"Alright, take care of it quickly and give me a call when you're done," Hu Pei'er replied.
"Thank you, Manager Wu," Yan Jien expressed gratitude.
After leaving the company, Yan Jien went to a rental agency and rented a small truck before driving towards Huixian.
For safety's sake, Yan Jien took a detour to ensure no one was following before getting on the highway.
Over an hour later, Yan Jien arrived in Huixian.
After another half hour, Yan Jien found the Huixian Livestock Trading Market.
"So many cows and sheep!" Yan Jien exclaimed with excitement.
"But the sheep are too small; I need to find a bigger one," Yan Jien said as he wandered around.
After a few minutes of searching, Yan Jien found his target.
"This one will do!" Yan Jien's gaze landed on a Blue Tongue Pig.
The Blue Tongue Pig is one of the excellent pig breeds cultivated in Nanjing Province, known for its good meat quality, fast growth, and strong adaptability.
The Blue Tongue Pig in front of him weighed at least over 120 pounds.
"Boss, how much is this pig?" Yan Jien asked.
"18 yuan per pound," the boss replied.
"I'll take it," Yan Jien said as he made the transfer.
"You catch it yourself; if you catch it, it's yours," the boss said.
"Okay." Yan Jien jumped into the pigpen.
The Blue Tongue Pig was startled and ran around in panic.
"Bang!" Yan Jien kicked the Blue Tongue Pig away.
The pig let out a cry and fell to the ground.
"So weak?" Yan Jien was surprised.
"Forget it; let's wash it first." Yan Jien turned on the faucet and rinsed off the Blue Tongue Pig.
After washing it clean, Yan Jien lifted the Blue Tongue Pig onto the truck.
"Boss, I'm leaving," Yan Jien said.
"Alright," the boss waved him off.
After leaving the market, Yan Jien's hunger grew stronger.
"I need to find a place further away from the road," Yan Jien thought.
"That's it! I'll do just that!" A sudden idea struck Yan Jien.
After about ten minutes, Yan Jien stopped the car.
"This is seven or eight hundred meters from the road; the sound of cars is already faint here," Yan Jien glanced at his watch.
"On average, three to four cars pass by every minute. Based on this frequency, it takes about ten seconds from when I hear a car until it reaches my position," Yan Jien contemplated.
"Ten seconds should be enough!" Yan Jien closed his eyes and began to meditate.
Time passed.
Over an hour later, Yan Jien lost control.
"Roar!" Yan Jien growled, his eyes turning blood red.
"Bang!" The car door was slammed open as Yan Jien leaped out of the vehicle.
"Roar!" Yan Jien howled and charged at the Blue Pond Pig.
The Blue Pond Pig trembled in fear.
"Bang!" Yan Jien knocked the Blue Pond Pig down and began to tear into it frantically.
Two minutes later, Yan Jien regained his senses.
"Finally full," Yan Jien said with satisfaction.
At this moment, the inside of the car was a complete mess.
"I'll head back first," Yan Jien returned to the driver's seat.
Driving back to the road, Yan Jien found a secluded spot to bury the remains of the Blue Pond Pig, then returned to the driver's seat and rinsed his mouth with bottled water.
"What time is it now?" Yan Jien glanced at his watch.
"Seven twenty; it's already light out," Yan Jien exclaimed in surprise.
"I should test my level of evolution," Yan Jien focused his attention.
"My hearing, smell, and vision have all improved, but not by much," Yan Jien reflected.
