Yan Jien thought for a whole night and finally understood some things. His body’s mutation was not a loss of control, but rather an evolution!
“When I first got sick, it was early July. Fever, cough, fatigue—these are all early symptoms of cancer.”
“Later, when I went for a check-up, no cancer cells were found. I thought it was a misdiagnosis, but now it seems that the cancer cells must have undergone some kind of mutation.”
“This mutation led to the disappearance of the cancer while also awakening certain potentials in my body, or perhaps activating some genes.”
Yan Jien recalled that his body started showing abnormalities in July. Initially, he experienced insomnia, anxiety, and loss of appetite—these are all early symptoms of cancer. Later, when he went to the hospital for an examination and no cancer cells were found, he thought he had recovered; instead, it turned out to be a mutation.
“From the current situation, my self-healing ability, night vision, enhanced hearing and smell are all due to the mutation.”
“And the loss of control last time must have been caused by the mutation as well.”
“However, that loss of control happened because I was hit by a car; it was a stimulus that triggered it. Logically speaking, I shouldn’t lose control for no reason.”
“And what about the feeling of agitation last night? What was that all about?”
Yan Jien fell into deep thought. “Last night was no different from usual; the only difference was that I had a dream!”
“Could it be because I dreamed?”
Yan Jien's eyes lit up. “Yes, it must be!”
“I dreamed of turning into a wolf, and when I woke up, I felt agitated. This indicates that the direction of my mutation is likely towards becoming a wolf!”
“If I truly awakened the genes of a wolf, then my feeling of agitation can be explained.”
“Wolves are social animals that prefer to be in packs; my dream last night must have been some kind of calling.”
The more Yan Jien thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. “When I was a child, I loved raising dogs, cats, and even sheep. I often played with them; could this be the reason why I awakened the wolf genes?”
“If that’s true, then it explains why my self-healing ability, night vision, hearing, and smell are so strong—because these abilities are inherent to wolves!”
Yan Jien became increasingly excited. “So my mutation is not a loss of control but an evolution!”
“Oh right! I should look up more information to see if anyone else has had similar experiences!” Yan Jien suddenly thought. “With such advanced technology today, maybe I can find some clues.”
With this in mind, Yan Jien took out his phone and began searching. “Cancer mutations: patients undergo drastic changes and possess extraordinary abilities!”
“Cancer mutation patients grow hair all over their bodies and consume raw meat; experts suggest possible gene mutations!”
"Cancer mutants, incredibly strong, impervious to blades and bullets; scientists speculate it may be a case of atavism!"
...
Yan Jien searched extensively, but most results were clickbait with vague content and no scientific basis.
"Hey, this news article seems somewhat credible," Yan Jien said, his eyes lighting up.
It was a post on a medical forum authored by an Oncologist.
"In recent years, the number of cancer patients has been increasing, and among them, some have exhibited mutations."
"These patients have healthy living environments, no family history of disease, and early symptoms that are not obvious, but their conditions rapidly deteriorate in the later stages until death."
"I compiled some data, and there are a total of 108 such patients!"
"All these patients share a common characteristic: they have good living habits, no bad habits, and come from affluent families."
"I suspect that their deaths are not due to cancer itself but rather genetic mutations!"
"Genetic mutations are an extremely rare hereditary condition that typically only occurs in cases of consanguinity."
"However, these patients have no family history yet exhibit genetic mutations; this is highly unusual!"
"I suspect that these patients must have been exposed to some chemical substances or radiation that caused the genetic mutations!"
...
"This doctor seems to know what he's talking about," Yan Jien nodded.
The 108 patients mentioned by the doctor shared similar characteristics with him.
"It seems my mutation is indeed a genetic mutation!" Yan Jien concluded.
"However, this doctor is merely speculating without actual evidence."
"It looks like I need to check some information about wolves; perhaps I can find some clues."
Just as Yan Jien was about to search, his phone rang suddenly.
"Mom, what's up?" Yan Jien answered the call.
"Xiao Yan, I want to introduce you to someone; you should meet them tomorrow," his mother's voice came through the phone.
"Mom, I'm busy with work; I don't have time," Yan Jien frowned.
"You need to make time for dating; you're already 30!" his mother urged.
"Alright, I understand; I'll think about it," Yan Jien replied dismissively.
"Don't brush me off; you must go this time!" his mother insisted sternly.
"Mom, I'm really busy," Yan Jien said helplessly.
"You still need to date no matter how busy you are!" his mother persisted.
"Mom, I truly don't have time," Yan Jien refused again.
"Are you saying you don't like girls?" his mother asked.
"Mom, what are you talking about?" Yan Jien's face darkened.
"Then why haven't you been in a relationship?" his mother questioned.
"I..." Yan Jien was at a loss for words.
"You have to go tomorrow; I've already made arrangements!" his mother commanded.
"I..." Yan Jien wanted to refuse.
"If you don't go, I'll tell your dad that you're bullying me!" his mother threatened.
"Okay, okay, I'll go! Is that enough?" Yan Jien hurriedly compromised.
"That's more like it," his mother said with satisfaction.
"Mom, I'm hanging up now," Yan Jien said.
"Wait!" his mother called out.
"What else is there?" Yan Jien asked.
"Make sure to dress nicely tomorrow; don't embarrass me!" his mother reminded him.
"Got it," Yan Jien replied, somewhat speechless.
"Alright, I'm hanging up," his mother said.
"Mm," Yan Jien responded.
After hanging up the phone, Yan Jien felt a bit helpless. He had been too busy lately and simply didn't have time for a relationship. Besides, given his situation, could he even date?
"Sigh!" Yan Jien sighed.
"Ding ding ding..." Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Who is it?" Yan Jien shouted.
"Open the door!" a commanding voice came from outside.
"Police?" Yan Jien was taken aback.
