Since then, I haven't seen him again. Later, he went to the capital for university and would occasionally call me. We would just exchange a few pleasantries before hanging up. Eventually, I started university and met Cui Lidong.
I was carrying a bag full of apples, following Chen Shan as we walked outside. The sun was blazing, and cicadas were incessantly chirping in the trees. There were hardly any pedestrians on the street. He reached out and took the bag from my hands, saying, "Let me handle it." I released my grip, and we walked in front of each other in silence.
Out of the corner of my eye, I glanced at him. He had grown taller and appeared more mature and resolute. His profile was sharp, with smooth lines that looked particularly striking in the sunlight. It seemed he sensed my gaze and turned to smile at me, saying, "Sister, what are you looking at? Is there something on my face?" His warm and rich voice made my heart skip a beat.
I hurriedly averted my eyes, replying, "I wasn't looking at anything." He chuckled softly and didn't say anything further.
Once we got home, my mother and I prepared a feast. She gave me a knowing look, urging me to invite Chen Shan to stay for dinner. I walked to the door and called out to him, "Chen Shan, why don't you stay for dinner?" He politely declined, saying, "No thanks, my dad is waiting for me."
Just as I was about to turn back inside, my mother called out to me, " Xiao Qian, take some apples over to Xiao Mang." Chen Shan didn't refuse. I followed him as we walked outside. When we reached the entrance, he suddenly turned around, and I almost bumped into him.
He looked at me and suddenly laughed, "Sister, if you want to throw yourself into my arms, you should wait until no one is around. It wouldn't be good if someone sees us."
I rolled my eyes at him, "Who wants to throw themselves into your arms?"
He blinked, "I don't know who it was just now, but they almost fell into my embrace."
I glared at him, "Stop being so narcissistic."
He laughed heartily and turned to walk ahead.
I followed him outside, feeling a mix of emotions.
When we were almost at his door, he suddenly turned around and pulled me into a dark corner.
I was startled and about to scream when he covered my mouth.
He pressed me against the wall, and everything went dark; I couldn't see anything.
His voice was both seductive and teasing, "Sister, do you miss me?"
I reached out to push him away, "What are you doing?"
But he leaned in closer, and I could almost feel his breath on my face.
He lowered his head and got close to my ear, "Sister, I've missed you."
My body stiffened, and I felt weak all over.
He took my hand and kissed it gently by his lips, "Don't you miss me?"
I pulled my hand back forcefully, "Don't do this."
He wrapped his arms around me, completely enclosing me in his embrace.
His scent filled my nostrils, making it hard for me to breathe.
He looked down at me, "Then who do you want to be like this with? Cui Lidong?"
Hearing Cui Lidong's name made my heart skip a beat.
Chen Shan laughed, "Sister, your heart is racing."
I opened my mouth to say something but couldn't find the words.
He took my hand and placed an orange in my palm.
He lowered his head to look at me, his voice gentle yet firm: "Sister, you can eat the orange now."
After he finished speaking, he turned and left.
I stood there for a moment, holding the orange.
This orange was exactly the same as the one he had given me three years ago.
I peeled the orange and popped a segment into my mouth.
The juice splattered everywhere, sweet with a hint of tartness, just like my feelings at that moment.
Chen Qian did not take the train but instead took a long-distance bus back to G City.
She sat on a bench, peeling an orange while waiting for the bus.
Chen Shan accompanied her, wearing a sullen expression.
As she peeled the orange, she tried to move away from him, but Chen Shan still bothered her, tugging at her clothes and snatching her orange from time to time.
She handed him a peeled segment: "You eat."
With a grim face, he took the orange and peeled one for me: "Here."
I took it and stuffed it into my mouth.
He looked at me with an inscrutable gaze.
Just as I was about to say something, the announcement reminded us to check tickets and board.
I stood up, preparing to go through ticket inspection.
He remained seated on the bench, his expression unreadable.
I looked at him: "I'm leaving."
He replied with a faint "mm."
As I turned to leave, he grabbed my wrist.
I looked back; he was staring intently at me: "Sister, you really can't bear to leave him?"
I was taken aback: "What?"
He pulled hard, bringing me into his embrace.
