Sun Ming said, "Xin Ping, I don't want to see you lonely."
"I know a lawyer who specializes in divorce cases; he is very experienced."
Xin Ping's face flushed, and she hurriedly withdrew her hand.
But Sun Ming wouldn't let go; instead, he tightened his grip.
"Xin Ping, let me take care of you."
He leaned in closer, and Xin Ping could almost smell the tobacco on him.
Her heart raced, and she instinctively felt uneasy.
She forcefully shook off his hand and hid it in her pocket. "Sun Ming, don't do this."
Only then did Sun Ming realize he had been a bit too forward.
He felt somewhat embarrassed. "Sorry, Xin Ping, I just care about you too much."
Xin Ping lowered her head, not wanting him to see her embarrassment.
Sun Ming sighed. "Xin Ping, it's too hard for you like this."
"Why not get a divorce?"
Xin Ping felt a pang in her heart.
She wanted to tell Sun Ming that it wasn't that she didn't want a divorce.
She was just scared.
She was afraid that if she got divorced, she would have nothing left.
After the banquet, Xin Ping saw Old Tang holding Nana at the entrance of the restaurant.
Nana looked very young, no more than twenty-five or twenty-six.
She was beautiful, with fair skin and big eyes, wearing a red coat that looked like a flame.
Xin Ping felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
She was over ten years older than Nana and had already lost her youth.
Standing next to Old Tang made her feel like a gray sparrow.
She couldn't help but imagine that if Nana were with Old Tang, they would probably be very happy together.
Nana was so young and beautiful, like a blooming flower.
And she had already wilted.
When she returned home, she found Old Tang was not there.
A sense of unease crept into her heart; she worried that Old Tang had heard her talking to Sun Ming on the phone.
She called Old Tang, but the phone rang from the sofa.
Startled, she hurriedly hung up the call.
After a while, Old Tang emerged from the storage room.
He looked sleepy, with messy hair, as if he had just woken up.
Xin Ping let out a sigh of relief; it seemed Old Tang had drunk too much and fallen asleep in the storage room.
She smiled and approached him, "Awake? Let me make you a cup of tea."
Old Tang nodded but didn't say anything.
Xin Ping prepared a cup of tea and placed it on the coffee table.
Old Tang sat on the sofa, silently watching Xin Ping.
Xin Ping felt uneasy under his gaze.
She had no idea what Old Tang was thinking, and her heart raced.
Suddenly, Old Tang picked up her phone and opened WeChat.
Xin Ping was startled and inwardly groaned.
She hadn't had the chance to delete Sun Ming's WeChat contact; if Old Tang saw it, it would be trouble.
She desperately told herself to stay calm and not to panic.
Maybe Old Tang hadn't seen it at all?
Feigning calmness, she glanced at the phone screen and immediately felt relieved.
It was a message from her cousin, wishing her a happy Dragon Boat Festival.
Xin Ping breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness it wasn't from Sun Ming.
Just then, Old Tang suddenly slapped her across the face.
Xin Ping was taken aback.
She covered her face, looking at Old Tang in disbelief.
Old Tang pointed at her nose and shouted, "What have you been doing behind my back?"
"Are you having some secret affair with your cousin?"
Xin Ping remained silent.
She knew Old Tang's temper; the angrier he got, the less she could defend herself.
Silently, she picked up a mop and began to clean the floor.
Old Tang scolded her a few times, but when he saw she wasn't responding, he calmed down.
That evening when they got home, Old Tang suddenly apologized to Xin Ping, "Wife, I'm sorry; I drank too much today."
"I shouldn't have hit you."
Xin Ping shook her head, "It's fine; I don't blame you."
Old Tang took out a bag and handed it to Xin Ping, "Wife, this is for you."
Curious, Xin Ping opened the bag and found a scarf inside.
However, it was a women's scarf.
She was puzzled, "Why are you suddenly giving me a scarf?"
Old Tang smiled and said, "I noticed that the scarves you usually wear are too old, so I bought you a new one."
"Honey, I promise I won't hit you again."
"I will treat you well."
Xin Ping felt a warmth in her heart.
She thought that Old Tang wasn't too bad to her after all.
After all, they were married, and Old Tang still had some feelings for her.
She smiled and said, "Okay, I believe you."
Old Tang hugged her tightly: "Honey, you are so good."
Xin Ping nestled in his arms, feeling a bit bitter inside.
She wanted to tell Old Tang that she didn't actually want him to apologize.
She just hoped he wouldn't hit her again, wouldn't hurt her anymore.
She wanted to tell Old Tang that she truly loved him.
She was willing to do anything for him.
But Old Tang didn't believe her.
He thought Xin Ping was lying to him.
He believed that Xin Ping only said those things because she was afraid of him.
He didn't want to hurt Xin Ping anymore, but he also wanted to control her.
He wanted Xin Ping to know that he was her husband, that he was everything to her.
Xin Ping closed her eyes, silently thinking of Sun Ming.
She missed his voice, missed his smile.
She missed his warm embrace.
She really wanted to message Sun Ming, to tell him she was doing well and not to worry.
But she was afraid of being discovered by Old Tang.
She could only endure it.
