"If you don't like me, you can tell me. But... why do you have to use me like this? Time and again, do you really think of me as a tool to be manipulated? Nie Qingcheng... I must be crazy to care for you, to respect you... In the end, all this care and respect means nothing to you!"
"Is my affection just something for you to trample on?"
"To betray me, to watch me hurt and in pain, does that make you happy?"
Yin Luo struggled to muster some strength and called out to him, "My lord... my prince..."
"Don't call me!" Mu Changqing suddenly shook off her hand and stood up, but due to his drunkenness and the sudden movement, he fell back onto the ground.
Leaning against the wall, his eyes were unfocused as he stared at the curtain, coldly curling his lips into a smirk. "Shiyi was right; you are a heartless woman. No matter how good I am to you, you will never appreciate it... In the midst of war and bloodshed, as long as it doesn't concern you, even if someone is torn to shreds, you wouldn't spare them a glance... It's all my fault for falling for you..."
He let out a mocking laugh, his eyes reddening with sorrow as he sat there motionless.
Yin Luo struggled to get up and reached out her hand, wanting to pull him back.
As her pale hand barely touched his shoulder, Mu Changqing suddenly stood up and turned around, his gaze filled with hatred as he stared at her.
The air around him turned icy and bore down on Yin Luo, making her head spin and her consciousness hazy.
"If I can't have your heart, then you shouldn't live in this world! If you're dead, I will forget you completely, thoroughly!"
His fingers suddenly gripped her neck; with a slight force, Yin Luo was pushed down onto the couch. He leaned over her, watching the pain on her face with an overwhelming aura of hostility. His eyes were bloodshot as he fixed his gaze on her.
Yin Luo struggled to breathe, her face turning red as she instinctively opened her mouth; tears streamed down uncontrollably.
Tears naturally dripped from her eyes, like fire branding his fingers. Mu Changqing suddenly narrowed his gaze and released his grip, allowing Yin Luo to breathe as she leaned against the edge of the couch and coughed uncontrollably.
Once her breath was finally steady, she lifted her head to look at Mu Changqing and said, "If you hate me... then just do it, kill me!"
"What has happened... has already happened... there is no turning back... I have betrayed the prince, and he has every right to take my life... go ahead!"
Even though she felt weak all over, she still raised her head, her gaze lowered as she looked at him, showing no fear of death.
Mu Changqing stared at her, enunciating each word: "Have you never had any feelings for me?"
Yin Luo curled her lips into a mocking smile: "In this lifetime... I will never have feelings for anyone!"
Mu Changqing's eyes darkened with anger as he leaned closer to her: "Oh, you don't have feelings, do you? I don't believe it. I want to test and see if you were born this heartless, this cold-blooded, this indifferent to everything!"
With a tearing sound, her clothes ripped apart. Yin Luo's gaze trembled as she reached out and pressed her hand against his that rested on her collar. She declared resolutely, "If you dare to touch me, I'll die right in front of you!"
"Die?" Mu Changqing's eyes narrowed as he suddenly reached out and pressed on her collarbone, staring at her. "Then go ahead and try!"
Yin Luo opened her mouth but couldn't muster any strength; she could only glare at him fiercely. However, Mu Changqing completely ignored her anger and pressed his lips against hers.
Humiliation pierced like a dagger deep into her heart. Yin Luo's eyes clearly showed determination as she mustered all her strength to reach up and pull the hairpin from his hair. Her long black hair fell freely, but that one mask remained terrifyingly fierce.
Yin Luo pressed the jade hairpin against his neck and said in a hoarse voice, "Let me go!"
Mu Changqing pulled away from her lips and looked at her coldly for a moment before reaching out and lightly touching her wrist. The hairpin slipped from Yin Luo's hand, falling over the edge and hitting the ground with a crisp "clink," shattering into two pieces.
Yin Luo seemed incredulous, lost in thought. Mu Changqing sneered and said, "Do you think you can kill me? The first time, you couldn't; this time, you definitely won't! This is the last time I allow you to put a sharp object against my neck. Nie Qingcheng, you can't escape!"
"In this life, in this world, as long as I don't allow it, you will never be able to leave my side. If you want to go, no matter where it is, I will bring you back. If you die, I will sleep in the same grave with you; if you live, I will share the same pillow with you. In this lifetime, even in the underworld, I will cling to you! Even if we go to hell, I will drag you along! Because you are mine in life and mine in death!"
He stopped saying unnecessary words and leaned in to kiss her.
Since she didn't appreciate his kindness, then from now on, she shouldn't expect him to protect her with kindness anymore!
All night long, amidst tears and sobs, he completely possessed her.
*
Suddenly, it started to rain outside. The commotion in the room was clearly heard by He Ren, He Xin, and Qin Liujuan next door.
Qin Liujuan initially wanted to intervene, but He Xin acted faster than her. She directly sealed Qin Liujuan's acupoint, trapping her inside the room and even locked the door to prevent her from coming out.
All night long, none of the five of them slept.
The next morning, Qin Liujuan finally regained her freedom and hurriedly rushed into the room to check on Yin Luo.
She was still lying on the bed, pieces of torn clothing scattered everywhere in the room. Qin Liujuan cautiously approached and pulled back the curtain. Upon seeing Yin Luo's back, tears immediately streamed down her face.
Yin Luo heard the noise but did not move; she only hoarsely said, "Go fetch some water; I want to bathe."
Qin Liujuan responded quickly and hurried out. When the bathtub was filled with water and she returned wanting to help Yin Luo, she only heard Yin Luo's voice devoid of warmth: "I can do it myself."
Qin Liu Yan looked at her for a while, not daring to say anything, and could only walk out, standing guard at the door.
The only thing she could do now was to guard the door and prevent anyone from entering.
Struggling to get into the bathtub, when the water touched her wounds, it felt like tearing pain. Yin Luo furrowed her brows, her eyes somewhat unfocused as she stared at the swirling steam, remaining silent for a long time before slowly starting to wash herself.
She asked Qin Liu Yan to find her some clean clothes to change into. The room had been tidied up by her and was already clean and neat. Yin Luo sat by the Redwood Table, watching as Qin Liu Yan brought her breakfast but did not touch it.
Liu Yan glanced at her and cautiously said, "Princess, please eat a little. You need strength after eating."
Yin Luo's gaze lingered on the food for a few seconds before shaking her head and saying, "Take it away; I can't eat."
Seeing her silent demeanor, Liu Yan felt tears welling up again but forced herself to hold them back. She steadied her voice and said, "The Prince left for Capital City early this morning. He instructed us to follow He Ren and He Xin together, saying that if the Princess is unwell, we can take our time."
Yin Luo's eyes moved slightly as she turned to look in the direction of the couch, seemingly lost in thought.
Qin Liu Yan knew she was in a bad mood and did not continue speaking. She took the food away and quietly stood guard outside the door, not allowing anyone to disturb her. However, unexpectedly, Yin Luo stayed inside the room all day long.
Having eaten nothing, when she finally came out the next morning, Qin Liu Yan felt that she seemed to have lost even more weight.
The rain had stopped, and He Ren and He Xin were waiting outside with the carriage.
Yin Luo said nothing as she followed Qin Liu Yan out of the inn and got into the carriage. Only then did they set off towards Capital City.
The atmosphere was terrifyingly quiet; He Ren did not speak, Yin Luo did not speak, and naturally, Qin Liu Yan did not dare to say anything either for fear of upsetting Yin Luo.
But she remained silent throughout, neither crying nor making a fuss, nor smiling; she was like a scarecrow, completely devoid of emotion.
Qin Liu Yan was initially very worried, but later realized that she was not refusing to eat, which finally relieved him. He carefully attended to her until they arrived at Jin Wangfu.
On the day they returned to the residence, Mu Changqing avoided her.
Yin Luo was sent back to Cold Jade Garden, and she had no objections, simply settling in calmly.
The steward came early in the morning and arranged everything that needed to be added in Cold Jade Garden. He also called a tailor to take Yin Luo's measurements for new autumn and winter clothes. Yin Luo had no objections and let them do as they pleased until nightfall when Mu Changqing returned.
Yin Luo had already gone to bed early. He entered her room and stood by her side, watching her. She lay with her back to him, and it was unclear whether she was asleep or awake.
The mask concealed all his emotions, and the dim light in the room obscured her expression. One lay down while the other stood; neither spoke. Eventually, Mu Changqing removed his shoes and lay down beside her.
He reached out and pulled her into his arms. Yin Luo's body stiffened for a moment but did not move.
They maintained their positions without moving; she faced away from him while he held her from behind. In the darkness, it was hard to tell how much time passed before a hoarse voice broke the silence, low and heavy in her ear: "I'm sorry..."
