Hearing that Shen Ci has someone special, my heart tightened.
"Do you know why the boss treasures his necklace pendant so much?"
"It's a gift from his beloved..."
Beloved, huh.
I downed another glass of wine.
"Woo..."
Pack Leader Wolf wanted to say something, but a beautiful hand poured him another drink.
"Mind your own business."
Shen Ci's cold voice fell.
Following the elegant fingers, I saw Shen Ci's slightly furrowed brow.
"Hey, Shen Ci, you're here!"
After settling the bill, Shen Ci nudged me against the billboard.
He shoved a few werewolves from our group into a taxi.
Turning back, he wanted to be angry with me, but seeing me drunk and helpless, he said,
"Why can't you just listen? Didn't I tell you to stay away from werewolves?"
Shen Ci was serious yet reluctant to scold me, his tone contradictorily gentle.
I shook my head.
Shen Ci is truly dazzling; even the moonlight pales in comparison to him.
"Let's work together!"
I reached out my hand.
"The missing girl is named Qin Shiwen; she's my best friend.
"I found a tuft of wolf fur in her diary and I'm looking for someone to identify it.
"Shen Ci, aren't they suspecting you?
"Let's team up and find the killer together!"
Shen Ci lowered his head, staring at my outstretched hand.
As he hesitated, I took a step forward. Having drunk too much, Shen Ci reached out to steady me. I grasped his somewhat cool palm.
"Hey, I've got you!"
Shen Ci tried to shake me off, but I clung to him.
"Be careful, someone is watching you from behind..."
Shen Ci looked surprised for a moment, but his eyes quickly regained their calm. It had been a long time since anyone had genuinely cared about him; beneath the calm surface, there were turbulent undercurrents.
A headache...
I woke up on a strange big bed and took a while to gather myself. I had blacked out. The last thing I remembered before losing consciousness was Shen Ci's almost demonic good looks.
"You drank too much, and I don't know where you live..."
Shen Ci, dressed in white loungewear, explained while sipping coffee.
"Oh..."
Help, this is so embarrassing!
My phone rang; the caller ID showed Professor Yang Yi.
"The comparison results are out."
On the way to the Animal Research Institute, Shen Ci touched his prominent nose.
"I'm not trying to collaborate with you; I'm just worried you'll get into trouble and then blame it on me."
When Yang Yi saw Shen Ci, he didn't seem surprised at all. He walked over to the computer.
"After comparison, no two tufts of wolf fur came from the same wolf."
The excitement that had built up inside me faded; I began to doubt the authenticity of the results. Just then, I received a report from an online test on WeChat; Yang Yi wasn't lying.
"Okay, thank you, Professor Yang."
I pulled up Shen Ci and was about to leave when I was blocked by Yang Yi. He held up a tuft of wolf fur from Qin Shiwen's diary and asked, "How did you get this?" My eyes lit up. "Do you know its owner?" Yang Yi nodded and opened another computer interface, accessing the "Key Persons of Interest" system. Only two pieces of information appeared on the screen.
The first one was about Shen Ci, with a note stating: "Has a history of harming others at age 6..." I looked up at Shen Ci, who had a nonchalant expression and deliberately bared his teeth at me. Immature.
Below Shen Ci was a name: Jiang Li, with the entire entry highlighted in red. It detailed multiple instances of his violent behavior. The latest entry read: "On October 3rd, patient Wen Miao disappeared from the hospital, suspected perpetrator Jiang Li."
I picked up the wolf fur for testing and said to Yang Yi, "I found this in Qin Shiwen's diary." Yang Yi's pupils constricted slightly as he avoided my gaze, his voice trembling just enough to notice. "When did Qin Shiwen go missing?"
"On October 17th."
Yang Yi leaned weakly against the cabinet behind him, his tone sorrowful. "That must be Jiang Li."
