Accidents always catch you off guard.
The system told me that my life would come to an end in a month, and then I could leave.
I thought I should let my sister see me at my best; looking so haggard was not acceptable.
So, I unusually finished all four dishes and a soup that the nanny had prepared.
I went out for a walk. Standing in the sunlight after such a long time, I closed my eyes and enjoyed it for a while.
The entire day, I felt cheerful.
Even when I received a text from Gu Yan saying that she had signed the divorce agreement and would send it over soon.
Even when Lin Che was happily boasting to Lin Rong and my mom about what Gu Yan had given him.
This happiness abruptly ended before I fell asleep.
The system informed me that my sister had passed away.
I would never see her again.
At first, I didn't believe it; I just thought the system was lying to me.
"Aren't you all-powerful? How could she die? You're lying to me, right?"
The system sighed, "She didn't hold on until you returned."
A pain unlike any other surged through my heart, as if a large hole had opened up, letting the wind rush in.
I screamed into the air, "Didn't you say I could see her once I got out? Why did you lie to me?"
"You knew she would die; you knew it all along, didn't you? Why didn't you let me out sooner?!"
All I received in response was the cold mechanical voice: "Sorry, I don't know. Host, please calm down."
"How can I calm down?! Because of that bastard Lin Che, I've endured ten years of humiliation; failing the mission is one thing, but even my wish to reunite with my sister has turned into a fantasy. You're not me; why should you expect me to be calm?"
"Host, acting this way makes me feel like you can't handle defeat."
"Hah," tears streaming down my face, I scoffed, "How do you think I don't care? Now I know what I need to do."
"Host, don't act recklessly!"
I dashed out of the room and into the living room.
"Everyone come down, even Gu Yan. I called her to hurry over."
Soon, everyone had gathered. Lin Rong glared and said, "What are you doing in the middle of the night? You better have a good reason."
My mom asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
I stared at Lin Che, smirking as I cast a video onto the television. It was something I had accidentally recorded while taking a walk in the afternoon.
He was whispering to a gardener. I was too far away to hear what they were saying.
Then there was a video from a few days ago, filmed from my room. Each time, it featured the two of them.
Lin Che's expression gradually tightened.
Lin Rong scoffed, "You want us to watch this at this hour? What exactly do you want to say?"
I paused the video on the man's hand, which had a distinct tattoo.
I looked at Lin Rong and smiled, "Sister, don't you recognize this?"
I then asked my mom, "Mom, don’t you remember?"
Suddenly, my dad shouted angrily, "Tell me, who is he?"
"He is..."
The system chimed in: "Host, you can't say it."
He is the kidnapper who colluded with Lin Che back then! I would never mistake that tattoo!
My dad stepped forward and pulled me upstairs. "If you can't say anything, stop disturbing everyone!" He added, "I think you've been cooped up at home too long; your head is messed up!"
His grip was strong; I couldn't break free from him in this body.
We were locked in a standoff on the stairs when I shouted at the dazed Gu Yan, "Gu Yan! Go find out who this person is!"
"Lin Che can deceive you once; he can deceive you a second time!"
With that, I fell straight down.
The air was filled with continuous gasps of surprise. Gu Yan rushed over, tears streaming down her face, "Blood, so much blood! Why won't it stop!" Before her was a crystal chandelier on the ceiling, dazzling and brilliant.
