Chapter Four: Shadows of Conspiracy
The alarm shattered the tranquility of the museum, red lights flashing with blinding intensity in the exhibition hall. Li Wenbo, Li Tianyou, and Zhao Min stood frozen, exchanging glances.
"What... what do we do now?" Zhao Min's voice trembled slightly.
Li Wenbo quickly tucked away the note, feeling startled but maintaining his composure. "We need to find a way out, quickly!"
The three moved like shadows through the dark corners of the museum, trying to evade the search by security personnel. Li Tianyou's traditional outfit stood out against the modern backdrop, but in the dim light, it became a form of camouflage.
"Follow me; I know there's a back door," Li Wenbo led the way, guiding the two toward the museum's rear exit with familiarity.
Once they escaped the museum, they sprinted into the night until they were sure they had shaken off their pursuers. They hid in the shadows of a narrow alley, panting heavily.
"It seems Dr. Zhang was well-prepared," Li Wenbo frowned, contemplating their next move.
Zhao Min pulled out her phone and brought up a map. "The museum is just the beginning; these symbols point to more than one location."
Back at Zhao Min's home, the three gathered around the table, with the yellowed note and diary becoming the focus of their discussion. Li Tianyou was fascinated by modern electronic devices but listened intently to Li Wenbo and Zhao Min's analysis.
"These numbers and symbols might be key to unlocking the secret of the pocket watch," Li Wenbo pointed at the code on the note.
Zhao Min nodded. "We need more information; we may have to go to the library to look up some resources."
The next day, as soon as the library opened, the three of them eagerly entered. Among the bookshelves, Li Wenbo and Zhao Min were searching for information about ancient time-space legends, while Li Tianyou was deeply captivated by the ancient texts.
"I found it!" Zhao Min whispered, holding a book about Ancient Mechanisms. "There are patterns in here that resemble the symbols on the note."
Just as the three were immersed in their research, a news report featuring Dr. Zhang suddenly appeared on the television. He announced that he would hold a press conference about time travel, and an image of a pocket watch prominently displayed on the screen.
"He’s going to reveal the pocket watch!" Li Wenbo exclaimed, standing up abruptly. "We need to uncover the truth before he does."
The three knew they were not only racing against time but also battling Dr. Zhang's conspiracy. Every step was filled with uncertainty, but to protect history, they had to move forward courageously.
Chapter Five: Clash of Technologies
Early in the morning, Dr. Zhang's press conference was being broadcast live on television. He stood on stage, holding a replica identical to Li Wenbo's family heirloom pocket watch, passionately discussing his "time travel theory."
"How dare he..." Li Wenbo glared at the television, his fists clenched in anger.
Zhao Min frowned. "We have to take action; we can't let his plan succeed."
Zhao Min sat at the computer, her fingers flying over the keyboard as she attempted to breach Dr. Zhang's system in search of more information about the pocket watch. Li Wenbo and Li Tianyou stood nervously beside her, watching the code scroll across the screen.
Suddenly, Zhao Min's computer emitted an alarm sound; they had been detected.
"Not good, they have security measures." Zhao Min quickly cut off the connection, her expression serious. "We need to find another way."
The three decided to explore the museum again at night, searching for possible hidden secrets. Under Li Wenbo's lead, they arrived at a little-known basement.
"This is said to be the museum's old archive room; perhaps we can find some clues," Li Wenbo whispered.
They cautiously opened one dusty filing cabinet after another until Li Tianyou discovered an old chest in a concealed corner.
The chest was filled with ancient documents and some strange devices. The most striking item was an old map marked with the same symbols as those on the note.
"This map... seems to point to an unknown location," Li Wenbo said, gazing at the map with a glimmer in his eyes.
Just as they were studying the map, the museum's alarm went off again. Dr. Zhang's people had already discovered their whereabouts and began pursuing them.
The three engaged in a chase within the museum, cleverly evading capture by utilizing their familiarity with the layout.
In a moment of near capture, Li Tianyou showcased his skills as an ancient warrior, fighting off multiple attackers to buy time for Li Wenbo and Zhao Min to escape.
They fled the museum only to find themselves surrounded by Dr. Zhang's men outside. Just then, a black sedan sped towards them and stopped in front of them.
The car door opened, revealing an unexpected person—the museum's Director.
"Get in quickly; I'll help you," the Director said in a deep voice.
The three quickly got into the car, which sped away under the pursuit of Dr. Zhang's men. Li Wenbo and the others had temporarily escaped danger, but the situation remained critical.
