"Cough, cough..." Ying Yitian landed outside the Arena with a look of disbelief, not even feeling the pain in his chest. It wasn't until Ren Pingsheng stepped down from the Arena that he realized he had inadvertently pulled at his wound and couldn't help but cough twice.
Just now, Ren Pingsheng had taken advantage of the thunderous clash of their swords to create a Phantom Body and attacked Ying Yitian. Due to the Cloud Mist enveloping the Arena and the continuous booming sounds, he didn't notice it and thought it was Ren Pingsheng himself coming at him. So although he was surprised by Ren Pingsheng's speed, he remained calm.
However, when he shattered the incoming Sword Qi, he sensed something was off. The power was too weak; it was clearly not how Ren Pingsheng would attack with all his might. At that moment, Ren Pingsheng's true body had already passed through the explosive noise and appeared on the other side, executing the Heavenly Sword Style.
This strike not only had considerable power but also unmatched speed. Just as Ying Yitian realized something was wrong, the Sword Qi was already upon him, leaving him no time to react.
Ren Pingsheng's move was somewhat risky; after all, when two Sword Techniques collided, the resulting explosion could be quite powerful. A small misstep could have left him severely injured. Fortunately, he was lucky enough to have the protection of Thousand Silk Armor, allowing him to avoid the most dangerous center area and achieve remarkable results, winning the match.
"Hmph, you got lucky. Even if you won this time, it doesn't mean you have real skill," Ying Yitian thought it over but realized it was useless to regret since he had already lost. He muttered bitterly and returned to his seat to heal.
Ren Pingsheng smiled faintly despite his pale complexion, not caring about Ying Yitian's words. He had also been injured by the explosion of Sword Technique, suffering some minor injuries to his lungs. He needed to rest for a while before recovering fully.
"You were distracted during the Match. You really are reckless. Did you gain any insights?" Situ Kong glanced at him and said irritably.
"Heh, isn't winning enough? I did gain some insights, but I'm still far from a complete understanding!" He shook his head and began healing. He had already reached the limit of his understanding of Golden Realm; he just couldn't grasp that last bit for now. If he could enter Golden Realm Space, he would quickly achieve that understanding.
When he initially evolved Wood's Profound Meaning, it was in Wood Realm where comprehension speed could increase dozens or even hundreds of times, easily leading him to find that final breakthrough point. However, now he lacked the ability to enter Golden Realm Space unless he had rare treasures or an Unparalleled Stronger willing to assist.
Otherwise, if he continued to comprehend on his own, it would take at least a year or more before he could hope for a breakthrough. This was also why he came to participate in the Rising Dragon Conference; Ascension Pool had effects similar to Realm of Intent where he could easily break through and evolve Profound Meaning.
The Match between Ren Pingsheng and Ying Yitian concluded, sparking much discussion among the audience. Many believed that Ren Pingsheng truly deserved his title as the first Dark Horse. However, they were only casually interested; only those who had bet on either of them were particularly concerned.
Soon enough, the audience was captivated by the subsequent Matches, each one more thrilling than the last. They cheered with excitement, especially those martial artists from Zongji Jing who were particularly animated. Some among them with exceptional talent gained significant insights while watching the Matches.
In these Matches, the strengths of the top twenty geniuses gradually became apparent. Comparatively speaking, the Top Ten Experts were undoubtedly in a league of their own; their Profound Meaning comprehension reached five points while others fell below that threshold.
Among the Top Ten Experts, distinguishing strength was difficult; one could only say who got lucky in their victories. This was evident in the recent Duel between Xuan Yi and Xiao Zhantian who had just finished their Tournament. In the end, Xiao Zhantian emerged victorious.
Both stood nine feet tall with wild and unrestrained Battle styles. They wielded Long Swords as weapons and fought fiercely with sword energy flying everywhere. In their clashes, blood surged with sparks flying around them. Their physical strength was terrifyingly formidable; their collisions sounded like two mountains crashing together.
Ultimately, Xiao Zhantian edged out a victory in their Duel but sustained serious injuries himself. It seemed that at least eighty percent of his strength had been depleted; if they were to Duel again, it would be hard to predict who would win or lose.
In the sixth match, Wan Xuan from the Wandan Sect took the stage, being the only woman among the twenty geniuses. Her opponent was another contender who had entered the top twenty, a Half-Step Monarch. It was expected to be a fierce battle. However, Wan Xuan swiftly ended the duel.
This duel lasted only three minutes from start to finish. Wan Xuan danced gracefully, creating countless illusions. The Half-Step Monarch struggled briefly at the beginning but soon appeared dazed and conceded defeat.
"That woman has a strange Artistic Conception; she defeated her opponent inexplicably," Ren Pingsheng said with narrowed eyes, somewhat surprised. By this time, his previously minor injuries had mostly healed.
"Indeed, the fluctuations of her Artistic Conception are quite peculiar, yet it's hard to describe the feeling," Situ Kong also looked puzzled, having never seen such an Artistic Conception before.
"This should be the Charm of the Essence, akin to enchanting techniques. If one truly comprehends its essence, they can unknowingly become entrapped within it. However, it also carries some Illusion within; this woman is not simple!" Tang Sheng explained.
"Such a strange Artistic Conception? This is my first time hearing about it," Situ Kong remarked.
"Hehe, as the ancients say: 'In the north, there is a beauty, unparalleled and independent; one dance captivates a city, another dance captivates a nation.' This is essentially the Charm of the Essence or perhaps even Profound Meaning," Tang Sheng continued.
"Charm of the Essence? Illusion? Could there be an Illusory Artistic Conception? It seems to be a fusion of charm and illusion," Ren Pingsheng pondered aloud.
"She possesses the cultivation of a Half-Step Monarch; I wonder which type she has evolved into Profound Meaning. As the saying goes: 'Heroes find it hard to resist beautiful women.' You all should be cautious when you face her," Tang Sheng said with a faint smile, implying something deeper.
"Haha, don't worry! If I encounter her, I won't hold back," Situ Kong said before pausing for a moment. "Look! It's Zhuge Changtian's match now. I have always found it hard to gauge his strength; I wonder who his opponent is this time?"
Ren Pingsheng looked over and indeed saw Zhuge Changtian from Heavenly Martial Academy standing in the arena. Dressed in a white robe with a feather fan and silk scarf, he appeared calm and composed, exuding an air of elegance. He was also a genius that Ren had been keeping an eye on; after all, Heavenly Martial Academy was the ruler of the entire Eastern Region, and their representative would not be an ordinary person.
"Who is that person? I have no impression of him at all," Ren Pingsheng asked in surprise upon seeing a figure in black suddenly appear in the arena. Not just him; many others also seemed unfamiliar with this person as if he had suddenly emerged out of nowhere.
"Hehe, that person is Yin Wuying, one of the most mysterious among the Top Ten Experts," someone nearby casually remarked; it was Xuanji Zi from the Top Ten Experts. To Ren's surprise, he actually recognized him.
"Yin Wuying seems to be quite skilled," Ren thought to himself while watching intently like everyone else during this duel.
"Zhuge Changtian, I didn't expect to encounter you here," Yin Wuying said hoarsely.
"Yin Wuying, you are not my match; why persist?" Zhuge Changtian replied with a hint of helplessness as he twirled his feather fan.
"Hmph! You know very well that I won't give up until I defeat you. This time I've gained new insights; I hope you can withstand them." With that, he mysteriously vanished from sight.
Seeing this scene made Ren Pingsheng's heart skip a beat; it felt oddly familiar. "Could this be what the Demon Emperor once referred to as Shadow's Essence?"
In the shadow on the side of Zhuge Changtian, a Sword Qi flashed by, coming dangerously close and moving with incredible speed, leaving no time for a reaction.
However, Zhuge Changtian paid it no mind. With a gentle wave of his feather fan, a bright Light Barrier appeared around him, and the Sword Qi struck it, creating a splash of Ripples.
"Useless. I already know your attack methods inside and out; they are of no use to me," he said softly to himself in the Arena.
"I hope you can remain this calm in the next moments," the voice came from the side of Zhuge Changtian, clearly emanating from that shadow.
"Clouds obscure the sun!" a hoarse voice quietly commanded. The sky above the Arena suddenly darkened as ominous clouds covered the sunlight. The entire Arena was shrouded in shadow.
"Kill!" Shadows filled the Arena, numbering in the dozens or even hundreds. They surrounded Zhuge Changtian and launched continuous attacks, easily shattering his Light Barrier. Zhuge Changtian waved his feather fan repeatedly, destroying countless illusions, but it had no effect, forcing him to retreat continuously.
"Shadow's Essence is indeed formidable. Wherever there is shadow, there is his figure; he can teleport freely within the Arena, making it impossible to strike him. Instead, he must constantly fend off his relentless attacks," Ren Pingsheng remarked with some emotion.
"Indeed, Shadow's Essence is quite rare," Tang Sheng added in surprise.
"If it were anyone else, they might not be your match. Unfortunately, this is an Arena battle; your trick will only cause me some trouble," Zhuge Changtian murmured to himself before declaring, "I won't hold back any longer. Part the clouds and reveal the sun!"
With his soft command, his aura erupted and spread throughout the entire Arena. The ominous clouds above began to ripple continuously until a beam of sunlight broke through. It pierced through like a spear of light, followed by one ray, ten rays, then hundreds. The clouds quickly became Riddled with Holes and ultimately dissipated entirely, revealing Yin Wuying dressed in black.
"As long as the sun shines, I am invincible. Blazing Sun Like a Prison!" As he gently waved his feather fan, beams of sunlight visibly split into millions of rays that shot forth like countless arrows, overwhelming Yin Wuying. This move bore similarities to Tang Sheng's previous technique of weaving clouds into threads.
