"Mission accomplished, you two don't need to see me off!" Ren Pingsheng smiled lightly and disappeared into the night without a trace.
"Ah! Qiu'er, Qiu'er. Wake up!" The Huang Family Head rushed over, picking up the fallen Huang Qiu, tears streaming down his face in despair. He only had this one son, and now he had died here.
"I told you long ago not to stir up trouble. Even if you wanted to, wasn't the entire Huangfeng City enough? Why provoke those we can't afford to offend? Now look, you've even lost your life." He kept muttering. If they hadn't provoked such an enemy, perhaps everything would have been fine.
The commotion from the Huang Family naturally alarmed many people, not just those from the Huang Family but also several prominent figures from Huangfeng City who were curious about what had happened. Some even sent people to inquire, but naturally, they received no information.
"Phew, that was indeed quite dangerous. I didn't expect that Chu Yuan and Chu Jing would send people over as well. And they even tipped off the enemy, leading to an ambush." Back at the Inn, Ren Pingsheng changed out of his night clothes and sighed. This time he had truly taken a significant risk. If it had been an ordinary Beginner Warrior, they would have likely met their end already.
"Wait a minute, tipped off? How did they know about my mission? Brother Feng and Fei Shixiong wouldn't tell anyone. That leaves only that Elder Butler named Liu Qi from the outer court. Or perhaps this mission was actually assigned to me by Liu Qi on behalf of those two?"
Thinking of this made Ren Pingsheng curl his lip. After all, they were Royal Disciples of the Great Chu Dynasty. Their connections were truly beyond what he could compare with. It seemed trouble was bound to arise in the future. Unfortunately, Royal Disciples couldn't easily send Assassins; he still wanted to stay safely at the Great Chu Academy for a while longer.
"Haha, there's still an hour until dawn; I should rest well and head back tomorrow!" He didn't want to think too much about it; anyway, whatever happened, he would face it head-on. If it came down to it, killing was an option; in this vast world, there would always be a place to go.
A new day arrived, and Huangfeng City was bustling once again. People indulging in food and drink and those hustling for their livelihoods were all busy at work. No one yet knew that the number one scourge of Huangfeng City was no longer among the living.
Soon news spread that a master had attacked the Huang Family last night, causing quite a stir. Many people witnessed it firsthand. Although they were far away, the strong fluctuations of True Qi were still clearly sensed by those martial artists. They speculated who would be bold enough to target the number one family in Huangfeng City when the Huang Family's strength was terrifyingly powerful.
Ren Pingsheng woke up in the morning to hear discussions about the Huang Family's situation. He merely smiled quietly to himself. He ordered a few small dishes and began drinking alone.
"Do you think the Huang Family offended some powerful figure before, and now someone has come back looking for trouble?" a drunken patron suddenly speculated.
"Surely not! The Huang Family is so powerful; who around here could they possibly offend?"
"Hey, it's hard to say. The battle last night lasted quite a long time. With the Huang family's strength, if it weren't for some powerful guy, would there have been such a big commotion?"
"Oh, you have a point there."
There were all sorts of rumors, but they were just drunken chatter, and no one took them too seriously. Eventually, a rumor spread that the eldest son of the Huang family, Huang Qiu, had died.
The entire Huangfeng City was in an uproar, with chaos everywhere as people discussed the death of the Huang family's eldest son. Many clapped their hands in delight. If it weren't for the Huang family's intimidation, many would probably have celebrated loudly. This showed just how much people despised him in Huangfeng City.
Seeing that no one from the Huang family came out to clarify, many realized that this news was likely true. Some sighed, some were puzzled, but more were still pleased.
Many young girls with a bit of beauty also peeked out to enjoy themselves. Huang Qiu was notorious for his lecherous behavior; he would directly take any pretty girl he saw on the street. Back then, those who dared to go out were mostly women who looked safe.
"Huang family head, don't be too sad; take care!" The Middle-Aged Man in Black was still there, not leaving. He wanted to leave but unfortunately had not completed his mission and still needed to rely on the Huang family's power. Last night's events made him realize that he couldn't handle Ren Pingsheng alone.
"Take care? Heh heh, my son is dead, and you tell me to take care!" The head of the Huang family muttered with a haggard face, as if he had aged ten years overnight.
"No matter how sad you are, it won't help; Young Master Huang can't come back to life. The more important thing now is to seek revenge. Do you want Young Master to die unjustly like this?"
"Revenge? Heh heh, I’m afraid you’re just hoping that kid dies right now! Although I also want to kill him immediately. But do you really think we can kill him? Qiu is dead, but I still have to consider the Huang family; I can't risk everything for revenge."
The head of the Huang family glanced at him and said sarcastically, clearly aware of what the Middle-Aged Man in Black was thinking.
"But don't forget, Head of the Huang Family, you and he are already irreconcilable. Not only did over a dozen Warrior Realm fighters from your family die at his hands, but even Young Master met his end because of him. Can you really remain indifferent? We have a great chance if we join forces; he was seriously injured last night," the Middle-Aged Man in Black said earnestly.
"I'm very clear-headed; our conflict is only about Qiu. Now that he's dead, it doesn't matter anymore. It's just unfortunate that he was useless and brought about this disaster himself. You should find someone else!"
The Middle-Aged Man in Black had tried several times to speak but ultimately turned away helplessly. He realized that the Huang Family Head had no intention of seeking revenge, or perhaps lacked the courage to do so. He cared too much about the so-called family and was neither willing nor daring to oppose the Great Chu Academy.
"Hmph, that kid can pretend all he wants, but he won't be able to fake taking that punch back then. I still can't believe I can't deal with a severely injured kid," the Middle-Aged Man in Black thought resolutely, preparing to take matters into his own hands.
Before long, it was past noon, and by this time, everyone in Huangfeng City knew that the eldest son of the Huang Family was dead. Ren Pingsheng finished his lunch and set off directly; the situation had reached a critical point. With so many people aware of it, it would be easy for the Great Chu Academy to verify.
"This Huang Family Head is quite a character; he didn’t even conduct a thorough search for the assassin. It seems he doesn’t want to escalate things further!" Ren Pingsheng glanced back at Huangfeng City and then turned to gallop away.
"An ambush?" An hour later, he pulled on the reins and stopped, looking ahead as he murmured. "Come out; I want to see who’s lying in wait here."
"Heh heh, you’re quite sharp, kid." A middle-aged man in black slowly stepped out from one side, carefully observing Ren Pingsheng as he spoke with a smile.
"Cough cough… Is it just you? You alone can’t keep me here," Ren Pingsheng coughed lightly, his face slightly pale as he replied.
"It seems you were indeed severely injured last night; even if I’m alone, it will be enough."
"I really can’t understand what benefits the Chu Family Brothers have given you for you to keep chasing after me. If the Academy finds out, you’ll be in danger. Why not pretend we didn’t see each other and go our separate ways?"
"Kid, you don’t need to sweet-talk me; I’m definitely going to kill you." The man in black drew his sword and said unperturbed.
"Well, that’s truly unfortunate…" Before Ren Pingsheng could finish his sentence, he dismounted from the Black Demon Horse and gently urged it away a bit further so it wouldn’t get caught up in the conflict. Otherwise, it would take him several more days on his journey.
"Let me test your strength!" He smiled as he thrust his sword forward, unleashing True Qi that carved a deep trench into the ground.
"You won’t be disappointed." Ren Pingsheng unsheathed his sword and instantly blocked the incoming attack. Then he moved with his sword, flicking it toward the man's chest. The Middle-Aged Man in Black sidestepped and executed a horizontal slash aimed at him. Each of his strikes was merciless.
"Ding ding..." Ren Pingsheng blocked the horizontal slash with a sword and lightly swayed to the side, launching another attack. The two were entangled like this, with Ren Pingsheng relying on the advantage of his Movement Technique, managing to evade his opponent's attacks and then countering sharply.
"Hehe, let me show you my ultimate move. Slash!" the Middle-Aged Man in Black shouted. The surroundings felt as if a fierce wind had swept through, an overwhelming momentum locking onto Ren Pingsheng. Ren Pingsheng instinctively stiffened, seemingly completely suppressed by this force.
"Sword Momentum? No, wait. Could it be Profound Level High-Level Sword Technique?" he murmured softly to himself, and then the pressure he felt vanished without a trace.
As he watched the incoming sword energy, which was about ten feet long, approaching rapidly, Ren Pingsheng instantly thrust out ten swords simultaneously to strike against the sword energy. Unfortunately, he had not yet perfected the Seven Star Sword Technique, and could only block and dissipate part of the sword energy.
After unleashing ten strikes, he used the rebound force to lightly retreat. Then he thrust out another ten swords in exactly the same position as before, without any deviation.
Ultimately, this sword energy was shattered by Ren Pingsheng. The Middle-Aged Man in Black had initially looked forward to the spectacle as the sword energy was unleashed, but upon seeing this situation, his expression darkened immediately. He charged forward.
Seeing him rushing towards him, Ren Pingsheng smiled lightly and did not dodge or evade the incoming sword. The Middle-Aged Man in Black felt a surge of joy, thinking that Ren Pingsheng must have exhausted himself from earlier and that his old injuries had flared up again. He quickened his attack by three points.
"What..." The Middle-Aged Man in Black was startled; his sword had actually struck nothing but air. It was only at that moment that Ren Pingsheng's illusion dissipated, and simultaneously a cold star shot towards him with lightning speed. In that brief moment of shock, it was already right in front of him.
At the moment the sword approached his body, the Middle-Aged Man in Black immediately reacted. Unfortunately, it was too late for him to make any moves. He could only retreat as a last resort to avoid a fatal blow. However, just as he attempted to act, Ren Pingsheng's Sword Momentum flashed and pressed down on him, shattering his last chance.
"Sword... Sword Momentum..." The Middle-Aged Man in Black's eyes widened in disbelief. If he had known that Ren Pingsheng had mastered Sword Momentum, he would never have dared to come here.
But there were no "ifs." Blood flowed endlessly from his throat; after struggling for a few moments, his head tilted and he collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
