She gazed out the window with her Water-colored Eyes. Although it was winter, Shazhou City did not feel cold. Tiny snowflakes drifted down like threads of rain, landing on the dark ground, only to be quickly absorbed by the earth, leaving no trace behind, hardly even a hint of silver, barely managing to appear as if it had shed its extravagance. 0

The red plum blossoms in the courtyard were in full bloom. She held a red Oiled Paper Umbrella and gently inhaled the fragrance, the drifting scent mingling with the fallen petals on the ground, vibrant as ever, adorning her heart. 0

Feng Yin noticed her focused gaze and could not help but step outside with an umbrella, draping a plain shawl over her shoulders. 0

On the day Shaoyi's troops departed, she stayed at the Southeast Asia base for about two more months before being informed that the Army would be moving through the Southeast Asia Battlefield and would not return. 0

After some time, Jiang Shanghao personally sent several Officers to escort her and Mrs. Skosen back to their homeland. 0

With Rose-Colored Lips slightly raised, she slowly turned and entered the building. 0

Feng Yin had already arranged for heavy curtains to be hung in the room. She sat by the bed, watching the drifting misty rain, unable to help but think of those returning from afar. Feng Yin handed her a blue warming stove; its warmth flowed through her palms and into her heart. 0

"Miss, I didn't expect winter on Sandy Isle to be so hard to endure." 0

"Isn't it? It is indeed quite damp and cold." Fortunately, she had been accustomed to such winters since childhood and did not mind much; it was just that her health was deteriorating, making her less able to withstand the chill. 0

Feng Yin looked at her flowing Water Eyes and said, "Today is the weekend; Young Master should be returning soon, right?" 0

She gazed out the window, her Lip Corners lifting slightly. Ling Heng had returned to Sandy Isle and was almost of school age now. However, there were no private schools available due to the chaotic times; she could not find a suitable elementary school or good teachers. On a whim, she decided to send him to Xiao Zuowei in Yuzhou for his studies. 0

Firstly, Brother Zuwei had a high level of cultural attainment, which reassured her. Secondly, she needed Ling Heng to have appropriate exposure to outsiders and different lifestyles for his growth. 0

Feng Yin looked out the window with an increasingly bright smile. "I see a car; Young Master is back!" 0

Cheng Mosu hurriedly got up without even putting on a cloak and rushed outside. She saw Xiao Zuowei helping Ling Heng get out of the car. Ling Heng seemed to have grown a bit taller; his dark Eyes held a deeper meaning as he slowly looked at her and rushed into her embrace. "Mom, I'm back!" 0

She felt tears welling up in her eyes but saw Xiao Zuowei smiling gently, his warm smile almost melting away the delicate snowflakes. 0

She lowered her eyelids and said, "Brother Zuwei, come in." 0

Xiao Zuowei stepped into the room without hesitation. Feng Yin served tea to the two of them, while a song from Shanghai played on the record player. 0

His eyes were filled with laughter. "Ling Heng is very talented; he picks things up easily. Teaching him is truly effortless." 0

She smiled lightly. "He takes after Shaoyi; his mind is quite sharp. Brother Zuwei can stay here for a couple of days, and when Monday comes, you can take Ling Heng with you. That way, it will save us some trouble." 0

"That would be great." Xiao Zuowei smiled gently, and then military news came through the broadcast. The two listened closely but heard no news regarding Shaoyi. 0

They fell silent for a moment, and after a while, Xiao Zuowei said, "Xiao Su, have you thought about what you will do with Shaoyi after the war ends?" 0

"I naturally hope he won't get involved in these matters anymore and that we can live together in a place we both enjoy, spending a few years in a simple yet extraordinary life." Her eyes sparkled with light, and her fair complexion had a hint of rosy blush. 0

Xiao Zuowei paused for a moment, his warm eyes reflecting depth and tranquility. "Xiao Su, I fear that even after the war ends, peace will not come." 0

She was startled and hurriedly asked, "Brother Zuwei, why do you say that?" 0

Xiao Zuowei quietly looked at her, his obsidian-like eyes shining brightly as he lowered his eyelids and said, "Do you know the current situation in the country?" 0

Cheng Mosu had never cared about politics and naturally did not know; she simply shook her head. 0

Xiao Zuowei took a sip of tea, his voice sounding even more gentle as he looked directly at her. "Right now, someone is threatening Jiang Shanghao's interests. During this resistance against Japan, Jiang Shanghao has seen Shaoyi's strong leadership abilities. Do you think he will easily let Shaoyi go?" 0

She was taken aback; lately, she had been worried about Shaoyi's safety or thinking about Ling Heng's education or dreaming of a beautiful life after the war ended. 0

But an end also signifies a new beginning; no one knows what the future holds for them. She paused, her gaze dimming as she pondered what to say. 0

After a while, she finally asked, "Does Brother Zuwei have any thoughts on this?" 0

"If you want to avoid Jiang Shanghao, you can only leave the country first with Ling Heng. When Shaoyi finishes his duties on the Southeast Asia Battlefield, he won't return home but will directly meet up with you. This way, we can ensure that Jiang Shanghao won't have control over him." Xiao Zuowei took another sip of hot tea and spoke slowly. 0

She pondered for a moment, her eyes calm and gentle, her emotions restrained, her delicate profile slightly tense. Her Rose-Colored Lips gently pressed together, and after a brief silence, she said, "Brother Zuwei, if that's what you mean, then please help me buy a boat ticket. I will return to Shanghai first and then go abroad from there." 0

Xiao Zuowei nodded. The two fell silent as the broadcast played the latest military news. "Previously, Shangguan Shaoying occupied the river valley and launched another attack, capturing the capital. Now the counteroffensive has begun; our troops are advancing southward, having taken two important cities in succession, and have joined forces with the Central Army to capture parts of our southwest and open up the roads." 0

Cheng Mosu felt a jolt of alarm. Her Water-colored Eyes slowly turned to Xiao Zuowei, who maintained a tense expression on his Handsome Face, his profile resembling that of a sculpture. After a moment, he said, "In my opinion, Shaoyi's Army is currently unstoppable. If nothing unexpected happens, the war will likely end by next spring." 0

"Then I need to hurry and set off with Ling Heng." Cheng Mosu's expression darkened slightly, her eyes rippling with emotion. "I will first send a telegram to Shaoyi to inform him of my whereabouts, and then I will go to America from Shanghai. He will come to meet me as soon as he finishes the war." As soon as she finished speaking, Xiao Zuowei nodded. She wasted no time and quickly instructed Feng Yin to send the telegram. 0

Ling Heng noticed that several people looked troubled and couldn't help but feel worried. However, he knew that even if he asked his mother, she wouldn't say much, so he decided not to inquire further and simply followed along. 0

In the middle of the night, he was suddenly shaken awake by Cheng Mosu, who covered his head with a blanket. Little did he know that Xiao Zuowei had directly lifted him up. By the time he fully regained consciousness, he was already on the train to Shanghai. 0

"Mom, where are we going?" Unable to suppress his curiosity, he finally asked. 0

Cheng Mosu softened her gaze and rubbed his hair gently. "We are going to Shanghai. Didn't you always say you wanted to see my hometown? Now we are going to take a look." 0

Ling Heng smiled at first but suddenly froze as if deep in thought. After a long pause, he cautiously asked, "Mom, is our situation very urgent right now?" 0

He was exceptionally perceptive. Cheng Mosu didn't want to deceive him and replied honestly, "Yes. Your father has achieved numerous military successes; Commander Jiang Shanghao must hope for him to continue serving the country and is forcing him into a war he doesn't want to fight. So..." 0

"So we are going abroad from Shanghai?" Ling Heng lowered his voice and asked quietly. 0

Her Water-colored Eyes moved slightly as she nodded. 0

Feng Yin returned from the dining car compartment with a tray containing three bowls of thin porridge and several plates of pickled vegetables. She placed them in front of Cheng Mosu and Ling Heng with an expression of helplessness. "Miss, times are tough now; this is all we have left to eat. You and Young Master Ling Heng will have to make do with it." 0

Cheng Mosu's Rose-Colored Lips curved into a faint smile. The food indeed differed greatly from what they usually had at home, but she didn't mind and glanced at Ling Heng. "Ling Heng, what about you?" 0

"I can eat," Ling Heng said as he moved his Jet-Black Eyes and picked up a spoon to drink the porridge. While drinking, he added, "There are many people who can't get enough to eat right now; I'm already very fortunate." 0

Cheng Mosu glanced at him appreciatively, then exchanged a smile with Feng Yin, signaling her to sit down. The two sat facing each other, and seeing that Cheng Mosu did not touch her bowl or chopsticks, Feng Yin asked with concern, "Miss, why aren't you eating?" 0

"I'm not hungry," she replied lightly, shaking her head and smiling faintly, her thoughts drifting far away. 0

Feng Yin tentatively asked, "Miss, are you thinking about the upcoming trip abroad?" 0

Cheng Mosu nodded slightly. She was sensitive and always had an ominous feeling, as if something was about to happen, her heart pounding like a drum. 0

Ling Heng noticed her unease and raised his small face to ask, "Mom, what's wrong? By the way, what fun things are there to see in Shanghai? If we have time, can we go play?" 0

She nodded lightly and fell silent. 0

After getting off the train, he thought Mom would take him around to explore, but unexpectedly, she did not linger and directly took him onto the ship heading to America. 0

She couldn't breathe easily until the ship set sail. 0

Looking down at the deck below, her water-colored eyes tightened sharply, as if her breath was about to stop altogether. 0

A group of disciplined soldiers boarded the ship, followed by a beautiful and elegant woman dressed in a light yellow qipao. She was tall and had captivating eyes. Cheng Mosu's heart sank; although she had only seen this woman once before, there was no doubt that it was Madam Jiang. The man beside her was Jiang Shanghao. 0

Madam Jiang gracefully approached her with a hint of a smile on her face and said softly, "Consort Shangguan, you seem in such a hurry to leave. Where are you off to?" 0
