Shangguan Shaoyi had a stern expression, and his voice carried a chill. "Where is he now?" 0

"This... it's still unclear. We only found the so-called Ruan Yu's body, but according to those familiar with him, that wasn't Ruan Yu. It was a small soldier who resembled him. Ruan Yu probably used a trick to escape." 0

He fell silent for a moment and simply said, "Understood. Continue the investigation." 0

"Yes!" 0

He went downstairs and saw Cheng Mosu holding a gilded teacup, gently sipping from it. Noticing his grim expression, she asked, "Is something wrong?" 0

"Nothing." He smiled, and she relaxed. Before he could tell her about the matter, she began speaking about something else. "Shaoyi, autumn is approaching. I want to learn how to knit sweaters and make one for our Ling Heng. What do you think?" 0

Her voice was delicate and soft, her eyes shimmering like Water-colored. He gently stroked her smooth hair and said softly, "Knitting sweaters is too tiring. You don't have the energy for it; it's not convenient." 0

She shot him a glance, her face flushed with a hint of anger or annoyance. "I see you think I won't do it well, which is why you're saying that." 0

Shangguan Shaoyi raised an eyebrow, noncommittal. She lightly hit him with her fair hand and pouted, "I've finally taken an interest in something, and you're discouraging me. You really should be punished." 0

"Oh?" He said with interest, "What does my lady want to punish me with?" 0

"Well..." Her Water-colored Eyes sparkled slightly as she clasped her hands together and clapped. "I punish you to go buy yarn for me!" 0

He raised an eyebrow; that seemed a bit too easy for him. But then he heard Cheng Mosu add, "You can't delegate it to someone else; you must go buy it yourself, and it has to be suitable and pretty for Ling Heng." 0

He smiled helplessly, "He's so small now, and he'll grow quickly. If you knit it like this, he won't be able to wear it for long." 0

She pondered for a moment and said, "I've thought about that too, but it will take me some time just to learn. So I want to knit a bigger sweater to give him when he turns one." 0

"Alright, then we'll do it your way." He indulgently pulled her into his embrace, his deep-set eyes filled with a strong sense of pity. She leaned against his shoulder, allowing the scent of smoke to envelop her. His usually cold palm surprisingly felt warm. For some reason, despite the joyful moment, tears welled up in her eyes. 0

She was indeed happy now, but her closest person was no longer there. 0

He suddenly recalled something and narrowed his gaze. "Cheng Mosu, did the Jiang Family come to take Ling Heng a few days ago?" 0

She was taken aback, realizing she had forgotten to tell him such an important matter. She scolded herself internally for being forgetful and hurriedly replied, "Yes, they did come, but Mr. Nan and I drove them away. Also, from Jiang Shanghao's demeanor, he seems to feel guilty about his daughter and probably won't come again." 0

"If that's true, then that's good." His grip tightened slightly as he silently vowed not to let anyone destroy the happiness he had worked so hard to obtain. 0

He intended to bring up Ruan Yu again, but she seemed to have forgotten about it entirely. She grabbed his wrist, her dark and clear eyes radiating layers of light as she looked straight at him and smiled. "How about we go watch a play tonight? I feel like I haven't been this happy in a long time; it's rare for me to have such refined interests." 0

She was indeed immersed in joy. Shangguan Shaoyi's worries gradually dissipated. After a slight pause, he replied, "Okay." 0

He released her and lit a cigar. The smoke curled upward, obscuring his sharply defined face. He suddenly didn't want to tell her about Ruan Yu; he didn't want to disrupt the peace and tranquility between them. Seeing her gaze fixed on him, he couldn't help but smile and ask, "What's wrong?" 0

"I just haven't seen you smoke a cigar in a long time; I wanted to watch." Warmth gathered in her eyes and flowed down like a stream. That bright gaze fell on Shangguan Shaoyi, who paused slightly; such tenderness made him deeply attached and unable to move from where he stood. 0

He reached out his hand, intending to ruffle her hair, but then he heard Feng Yin's voice. His hand naturally froze in mid-air as Feng Yin approached with a puzzled expression and handed an envelope to Cheng Mosu. "Miss, I just went out and saw someone leave a letter at the door. When I chased after him, he ran away." 0

"Oh?" She looked at the envelope suspiciously, which clearly stated that it was addressed to Cheng Mosu. After a pause, she asked, "Did you see what that person looked like?" 0

"I didn't see clearly, only recognized the back. He was very thin and tall, and had an upright posture, somewhat like Son-in-law." Feng Yin rolled his Eyes to look at Shangguan Shaoyi, then smiled shyly, "But Son-in-law has always been here, so it’s impossible for him to go out. However, I think that person must have been a soldier." 0

She felt a stir in her heart and opened the envelope. Her delicate Fingertips trembled slightly as she pulled out a stack of photos. She suddenly froze, gasping in shock, nearly fainting. Shangguan Shaoyi quickly held her in his arms while Feng Yin hurried to pick up the photos she had dropped on the floor. 0

The photo showed a bloodied corpse wearing a military uniform. Upon closer inspection, the person's face was unrecognizable, but the Medals on the uniform were particularly clear. Feng Yin carefully identified them; these Medals belonged to the Northwest Young Commander, which meant... 0

She focused her gaze on the person's arm, covered in festering black-red wounds. With injuries like that, it was clear he wouldn’t survive. She looked at Cheng Mosu, only to see Shangguan Shaoyi pinching Cheng Mosu's palm to bring her back to consciousness. Her Water-colored Eyes were half-opened, long Eyelashes stained with Tears. 0

"This person... is Ruan Yu." She felt as if her heart had been pierced by something sharp, making her complicated feelings towards Ruan Yu even more inscrutable. The heart-wrenching sensation washed over her, almost drowning her. She hoped he was alive; although she didn’t like him, she still wished for his survival after all the kindness he had shown her. 0

"Cheng Mosu, don’t be sad." Seeing her like this made him feel uncomfortable; she cared so much about Ruan Yu, which caught him off guard. He paused; perhaps even Cheng Mosu herself didn’t realize how complex her feelings for Ruan Yu were. 0

Though his heart ached, he still gently comforted her emotions, "Cheng Mosu, this person is not Ruan Yu. Just now, Shen Deputy Officer called and said that this corpse is actually not Ruan Yu himself but a soldier who resembles him. Ruan Yu must have used a clever trick to escape; he’s fine." 0

She was slightly taken aback and stared quietly at the photos. It did seem that it wasn’t Ruan Yu. Although they had similar builds, Ruan Yu should be thinner than the person in the photo. She felt relieved and smiled lightly, "It seems I was confused and didn’t look closely." 0

"Concern leads to confusion; that's how it is." His gaze was deep and profound, making those words carry significant meaning. She felt a pang in her heart and looked up at Shangguan Shaoyi, noticing the evident suppressed anger in his eyes. Unconsciously, she bit her Rose-Colored Lips, feeling an increasing sense of unease within her. 0
