Su Ling changed into a Moonlight White Fragrant Cheongsam, the magnolia flowers embroidered on the Qipao exuding faint fragrances. With her hair lightly styled like dark clouds and a subtle touch of color on her lips, her delicate hands held a pearl round fan, complementing the long white tassels to create an elegant and gentle appearance. Ruan Yu quietly watched her, momentarily entranced, feeling as if she resembled a fairy from a painting, making it impossible for him to divert his gaze from her.
Only then did she notice Ruan Yu's stare; her fair complexion flushed slightly, and the round fan covered her rose-colored lips. "What are you looking at?" she asked.
"Nothing, just thinking you look beautiful." Ruan Yu reached out to catch her, but she gently dodged, her picturesque brows slightly lowered. Ruan Yu laughed heartily, not angry at all; however, the tension in his brows made one shiver. "Su Er, the Shangguan Family is hosting a banquet tonight to celebrate my complete allegiance. You must accompany me."
Su Ling frowned slightly, her water-colored eyes sparkling brightly, rivaling the stars. "You said I was sick, so I don't need to go."
"Oh?" Ruan Yu wrapped his arms around her slender waist, his nose brushing against her slightly cool forehead. She trembled inside and hurried to escape, but he tightened his grip, leaving no room for her to move.
"Ruan Yu, let me go!" Su Ling bit her rose-colored lips, unaware that as she struggled, her fair face blushed slightly and the rippling in her water-like eyes made him feel restless—a surge of desire rising within him.
He smirked, his narrow eyes gleaming with mischief as he teased in a playful tone, "Madam, as long as you agree to me, I will let you go; otherwise, I cannot guarantee what I might do."
"How can you be so unreasonable!" She was flustered and forgot about etiquette.
Little did she know that this weak and helpless demeanor was precisely what Ruan Yu desired. He became even more spirited and pretended to peck at her rose-colored lips. She was startled and quickly blocked his advance. "Fine, I agree; just let me go."
The corners of Ruan Yu's mouth slowly relaxed; the spark in his narrow eyes dimmed as he gradually released her. Leaning close to her ear, he teased her delicate earlobe. "Su Er, whether it's an object or a person, if I set my sights on it, I will use all means necessary to make it mine—you're no exception."
She paused for a moment, watching his retreating figure and felt as if she had become a drifting west wind in the latter half of her life—lost and without a place to rest.
As night fell, the Shangguan Residence became lively with lights ablaze and guests bustling about. She still wore that Moonlight White Fragrant Cheongsam and linked arms with Ruan Yu as they descended the stairs together.
Shangguan Yiting, adorned with shimmering and slender gold earrings, wore a bright red Qipao embroidered with peony patterns. Her tall and outstanding figure made her particularly eye-catching in the crowd. Beside her stood Zhu Yefeng, wearing a carefree smile, accompanying her with just the right amount of gaze—neither intrusive nor distant.
He saw Su Ling and was momentarily stunned. Although he had heard upon arriving that Ruan Yu had married a new wife who looked exactly like Cheng Mo Su, seeing her in person tightened his heartstrings, especially since he was the one responsible for Cheng Mo Su's death.
Su Ling glanced at him lightly; her water-colored eyes showed no sign of emotion. However, the faint glimmer in her gaze carried a chilling sharpness that froze his smile in place.
Ruan Yu coldly raised the corners of his mouth, his narrow eyes darting between the two. He spoke, "Su Er, let me introduce you. This is Zhu Yefeng from the Zhu Family in Shanghai. You should know that the Zhu Family and the Cheng Family are both top-tier financial conglomerates."
"I know," Su Ling replied, staring at Zhu Yefeng's forced smile. Her rose-colored lips held a hint of an inscrutable smile as she spoke in a melodious voice, "Mr. Zhu, it's nice to meet you."
"Hello," Zhu Yefeng quickly returned her greeting with a smile.
"Why does Mr. Zhu seem a bit nervous?" Ruan Yu's gaze subtly swept over Zhu Yefeng, his probing yet disdainful look only made Zhu Yefeng more flustered, beads of sweat forming in his palms. Fortunately, Shangguan Shaoyi arrived just in time and exchanged pleasantries with Ruan Yu, allowing Zhu Yefeng to regain his composure and present his usual calculated smile.
However... as he looked at Su Ling, he felt she was Cheng Mo Su but also not. She shared the same appearance, temperament, and manner of speaking as Cheng Mo Su but possessed an indescribable quality that made him uneasy, as if her eyes could see through everything.
"Madam Ruan, may I ask you to dance?" He shifted his gaze to Shangguan Shaoyi's cold yet expectant face, calming himself and adopting an expression of watching a show.
Su Ling gently declined with a faint smile, "Shangguan Shaoyi, I'm sorry, but I don't know how to dance."
"Dancing isn't difficult; if you're willing to learn, you'll surely be able to," he said, his deep gaze fixed on her as he set aside the amber goblet in his hand, ignoring the sweet and rich wine. He simply waited quietly for her answer.
She lifted her eyes; her tranquil gaze flowed into his heart as snowflakes danced outside. He looked at her with certainty; she moved the corners of her rose-colored lips but was interrupted by Ruan Yu's voice filled with irritation. "Shangguan Shaoyi, ever since you saw my wife yesterday, your eyes seem glued to her. You're not without a wife; why do you keep staring at my Su Er?"
She was momentarily taken aback, smiled lightly, and politely declined, "I'm sorry, Shangguan Shaoying, but I really can't dance."
His Black as Ink eyes revealed a hint of helplessness. Through the dazzling Light, he seemed to see her smile and her confusion. If she truly was not Cheng Mosu, if she had genuinely forgotten the past, what memories was he supposed to hold onto in this world? He watched her slender and delicate figure slowly walk away, listening to her clear and gentle voice, like a soft whisper, singing lightly.
"I'm tired; I'm going back to rest now. Please feel free to continue."
He opened his mouth but realized he had no position to stop her steps now. He could only stand there, his burning gaze following her as she gradually moved away.
A crisp and pure voice suddenly called out from behind, "Cheng Mosu!"
Everyone turned to look at the speaker. Yeh Zhenzhen was holding Xiao Zuowei's arm, her slightly curled hair cascading down to her waist. The pearl earrings on her earlobes sparkled, and the crystal pendant around her neck was transparent and light. She couldn't hide her excitement and quickly grasped Cheng Mosu's hands, saying, "I heard Sister Yiting mention you this morning. I didn't believe it at first, but it's really you! You've come back!"
"Xiao Su." Xiao Zuowei took two steps forward, looking at her lowered brows and that smiling Countenance, blushing like peach blossoms, capturing his soul just as before.
Su Ling remained silent, her watery Eyes showing no ripples of emotion. This calm reunion was unexpected for Yeh Zhenzhen. She felt a pang of anxiety and glanced at Ruan Yu beside Su Ling, saying, "Is it because this Ruan Yu is threatening you with something that you dare not acknowledge us?"
In a flash of inspiration, she blurted out a string of French words. "Cheng Mosu, now that you're home with us protecting you, if you've been wronged in any way, just tell me!"
Su Ling still did not respond. After a while, she smiled lightly and said thoughtfully, "Madam, I cannot understand what you just said. But I can assure you that you have indeed mistaken the person. My name is Su Ling, not Cheng Mosu."
