Cheng Mosu felt a sense of unease, unsure of what they were discussing. However, Shangguan Shaoyi returned to the room after about five minutes, but...
Shangguan Shaoyi noticed her hesitation but acted as if nothing was wrong, pulling her into his embrace and smiling, "The matters are finally settled."
"Is that so?" She brightened her eyes slightly and smiled faintly, "What was the outcome?"
"Jiang Shanghao agreed to grant me the authority to mobilize the Northern Central Army. In a few days, I will be launching an attack on Feng Province to reclaim it." Shangguan Shaoyi's tone was steady and calm, but Cheng Mosu's heart sank; didn't this mean he would be in danger again...
Shangguan Shaoyi saw through her thoughts and gently kissed her forehead, "Don't worry. This time we have sufficient troops. If we deploy them well, I believe reclaiming Feng Province won't be a problem."
She nodded in agreement, reaching out to help him tidy his military uniform, softly asking, "When will you leave?"
"I'll go as soon as Jiang Shanghao's side is ready." His gaze quietly rested on Cheng Mosu. Cheng Mosu caressed the medal on his collar; this brilliant reputation was actually a legend earned with his life. Noticing Cheng Mosu's calm expression, he smiled gently, "Let's go eat; your sister is waiting."
She nodded, pushing aside thoughts of Jiang Yating and allowing him to lead her to the dining room.
Shangguan Yiting was already seated there, one hand holding a newspaper while the other played with a fountain pen, the gleaming gold reflecting in front of her. Hearing their arrival without turning her gaze, she knew it was them and smiled lightly, "I heard some commotion in the parlor this morning. Who was it?"
Cheng Mosu's heart skipped a beat as she glanced at Shangguan Shaoyi. He remained unfazed and answered truthfully, "Jiang Yating."
Shangguan Yiting paused for a moment, her gaze shifting between the two before settling on Cheng Mosu. After a while, she turned away and asked, "What did she come for? Did she say anything unpleasant?"
Cheng Mosu pondered for a moment before replying, "Not much. She talked to me about many things that seemed useless at first glance, but upon reflection, it felt like a declaration of war." She stole a glance at Shangguan Shaoyi and noticed his tightly pressed lips and cold gaze, deciding not to elaborate further.
Shangguan Yiting was so clever that she took a sip of hot tea and smiled at Cheng Mosu, saying, "That Jiang Yating is so fickle; you shouldn't take her words to heart. In fact, she has always been interested in Lin, but hasn't received any response, right, Lin?" She glanced at Shangguan Shaoyi, who only snorted coldly and did not respond.
Shangguan Yiting had to continue speaking, "Now that you two are married, she has nothing to do with it anymore. The mistress of the Shangguan Family can only be Cheng Mosu." Seeing Cheng Mosu with her head lowered and a quiet smile on her lips, an idea popped into her mind. "By the way, Cheng Mosu, you two have been together for so long; when can we expect a new member in the Shangguan Family?"
She was momentarily taken aback and didn't react right away. When she saw Shangguan Yiting looking at her and Shaoyi with ambiguous eyes, she finally understood, a blush blooming on her face like peach blossoms. She scolded lightly, "Sister, such things cannot be forced..."
"Is that so? But I believe that if you put in the effort, nothing is impossible, right, Lin?" Shangguan Yiting smiled again at another person.
Shangguan Shaoyi raised his eyebrows slightly, feeling Cheng Mosu shrink further into his embrace. The faint fragrance emanating from her filled his nostrils. He looked down at her and found her profile as beautiful as water, making him unable to help but want to protect her wholeheartedly.
"Alright, I won't stay here to obstruct your view." Shangguan Yiting stood up and walked over to the two of them, smiling again. "Lin, Cheng Mosu, now that I don't have to lead troops into battle and am bored at home every day, you both should hurry up and give me a nephew or niece to play with."
Shangguan Shaoyi's bright eyes held a hint of amusement as he glared at her. She laughed and returned to her room, but her cheerful laughter lingered in the air. Cheng Mosu peeked out from his embrace and saw him gazing at her with intense eyes, causing her to blush again. "Alright, let's eat; I'm so hungry."
"Mm." He withdrew his heated gaze and set the table for her. Watching her eat bite by bite while he didn't touch his own food made her puzzled. She looked at him curiously as he merely smiled slightly and leaned closer to whisper in her ear, "I want to eat the main course first; I'll have these later."
"The main course is just this?" She looked at the table full of delicacies with even more confusion.
He raised his eyebrows slightly and quietly observed the sparkling clarity in her eyes. He held her neck gently and kissed the side of her Rose-Colored Lips. The fragrance filled the space between their lips instantly as he reached to unfasten the delicate silver buttons of her Qipao. Only then did she realize that when he mentioned the main course, he was referring to her.
She lowered her Eyes, trying to steady her breath as she pushed him gently. "You just got back; you haven't eaten yet. Shouldn't you eat something first..."
Before she could finish speaking, he swept her up in his arms and walked straight toward the bedroom. His heated lips landed on her cool skin, leaving behind a mark that belonged solely to him. Cheng Mosu squirmed slightly in resistance with her slender waist, which only deepened the darkness in his bright eyes. He nibbled on her delicate earlobe and murmured, "What could be more delicious than my Cheng Mosu?"
She leaned against his chest, her Water Eyes filled with allure. He smiled silently, and the more shy she became, the hotter his heart felt.
At that moment, the phone rang unexpectedly, breaking the romantic atmosphere. Cheng Mo let out a breath, reaching out to push Shangguan Shaoyi to answer the call. Seeing the heat fade from his clearly defined eyes, she couldn't help but smile slightly.
"Hello." He picked up the phone, his voice a bit hoarse from the earlier restraint. "Okay, I understand. I'll head over now." She turned to look at him, half of his shirt disheveled and draped over her fair skin. When he turned back to her, he felt his blood racing, suddenly on the verge of losing control.
She lowered her Eyes, listening to his gentle laughter nearby. He raised his hand to glide over her slightly cool skin, helping her adjust her clothing as he softly said, "Mo Su, I'm stepping out for a bit. You rest well."
She grasped his hand, a hint of unease passing through her heart. "Where are you going..."
He paused for a moment; Mo Su had always trusted him completely and never asked such questions before. He ran his fingers through her flowing hair and raised an eyebrow. "I'm going to the command center; Jiang Shaohao suddenly wants to discuss some military matters with me."
"Oh." She lowered her gaze. "How about I make beef brisket porridge for dinner?"
His hands, which were tidying up his uniform, suddenly froze, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Sounds good."
Fearing he might disturb her, he gently closed the door behind him, his footsteps gradually fading away. She didn't know what was happening to her; it felt as if her legs were not obeying her commands as she moved to the window and watched a graceful figure beside the extended limousine open the car door for him. Her heart felt heavy with an inexplicable sense of suffocation.
