After that day, no one mentioned the question of staying or leaving again. They acted as if nothing had happened, like honeymooning couples on vacation, stretching lazily in the afternoon sun and gazing at the sea in the silence of the sunset. No one thought about the days to come; they simply enjoyed the beauty of the present moment.
Inside the cabin, she was lazily curled up in his arms, looking at the chessboard in front of him, her lips curling into a faint smile. "Where did you get this chessboard?"
He tightened his arm around her. "There's one for sale in the lower cabin. I thought you would want to play chess, so I bought a set."
She wriggled out of his embrace, exhaling lightly, her clear eyes sparkling. Her fair hand brushed over the slightly uneven chessboard. "Great! Let's play a game."
"Okay." He smiled slightly, and his mood instantly calmed.
Cheng Mo's eyelids were half-closed, his long eyelashes fluttering slightly as he made a strong move on the board. His lips held a smile, and his eyes were filled with affection. "It's your turn." Only then did he pull back his gaze from her and focus on the board, casually placing a piece down. They exchanged moves without fierce competition, quietly setting up their own game, neither willing to make the first aggressive move.
If they continued like this, it was uncertain when it would end; after all, the initiative had to be seized. She paused for a moment and placed a piece down, only to see his black eyes flicker with excitement as his lips slightly lifted, seizing territory in response. She then realized he had this skill too and couldn't help but feel a bit frustrated, her heart racing. His voice slowly drifted to her delicate ear. "What’s wrong? Do you want me to let you win?"
A blush crept up her fair cheeks. She raised her eyes and playfully scolded him; her watery eyes shimmered. He froze for a moment and unconsciously leaned down to press his warm lips against hers. Her heart skipped a beat as her fingertips lightly touched his chest. He chuckled softly and moved away from her side. She lowered her beautifully shaped brows and looked at the chessboard, smiling as she said, "I've already fallen behind; don't disrupt my thinking anymore."
"Oh?" He raised an eyebrow and smiled gently. "Then why don't you try to disrupt my thinking?"
She paused for a moment and glanced at him. "Stop being silly; just play chess properly."
"Alright." He ruffled her smooth hair and placed a piece down while raising an eyebrow at her. She shot him a glare, furrowing her delicate brows as she focused on the board, contemplating her next move.
He casually inhaled the scent of her hair, that warm fragrance making him feel nostalgic and enchanted. If Mo Su truly wasn't around...
The pupils tightened slightly. The two years without her felt like an eternity to him. He didn't want to lose her again, yet he had no choice but to let go.
Coming back to his senses, he noticed those water-colored eyes quietly gazing at him. He smiled and asked, "Where did you go?"
Her delicate fingers pointed at the black piece on the board, and the surrounding scent of smoke made her feel incredibly comfortable. She couldn't help but curl up closer to him, and he let out a gentle laugh from above her head. "Cheng Mosu, you've disrupted my thoughts." She paused in silence, looking up to find him staring intently at her, his eyes filled with intoxicating tenderness. After a moment of silence, she wrapped her arms around his neck and initiated a kiss. He seemed taken aback by her boldness but enjoyed it nonetheless, slightly closing his eyes.
They ended up playing chess for an entire afternoon.
"I lost," he said with a light laugh as he released her and stood up from the chair. "I'm going to buy something to eat. What does Cheng Mosu want?"
Cheng Mosu was still focused on the chessboard. Shaoyi had intentionally let her win, which left her feeling somewhat dissatisfied. Her fair cheeks flushed with a hint of red as she pouted and said, "I don't want to eat anymore; you let me win at chess..."
He chuckled helplessly and kissed her lightly on the forehead. However, she remained stubborn, pouting and deliberately avoiding his gaze. He found it amusing and turned her towards him, pressing against her tempting lips. She closed her eyes, feeling a warm moisture enveloping her lips, almost losing consciousness before he finally released her.
Though still feeling a bit regretful inside, his gentle laughter lingered in her ears. He turned to open the door but seemed to remember something and looked back at her, saying, "Cheng Mosu, it's not that I let you win; it's that you stirred my emotions."
She was momentarily stunned, her heart blooming like a hundred flowers under the sunset's glow.
After having dinner and chatting with Father for a while, she felt utterly exhausted when she returned to her room. She found him leaning against the bed, playing with a cobalt blue pen, his eyes bright as if deep in thought. She slightly curled the corners of her mouth; she knew exactly what was on his mind but chose not to mention it. Instead, she lay down beside him and smiled softly at him.
He wrapped his arms around her and spoke gently, "Did you finish talking with Father-in-law?"
"Yeah, I'm a bit tired and want to rest." She slowly closed her eyes but could feel his warm breath behind her. Her heart fluttered lightly as she forced herself to keep her eyes shut. Yet he seemed intent on teasing her, letting his warm breath brush against her ear. Suddenly, a wave of subtle ticklishness swept over her body. Finally unable to resist any longer, she turned to face him, her face blushing like peach blossoms as she scolded playfully, "I'm so sleepy; let's go to sleep quickly."
He smiled gently and leaned down to kiss her delicate eyelashes. The silk pajamas covered her tender skin, which exuded a subtle fragrance, and her watery eyes were filled with mist. He moved his lips, feeling as if the softest corner of his heart was being stirred.
She shifted to the side and reached out to turn off the light. He noticed her movement and rolled over to help her. Under the light, he looked imposing in his military uniform, with sharp features. She paused slightly, turning her body away, her breath quickening. He rolled back on top of her, wrapping his arms around her slender waist from behind, his warm breath lingering on her neck. "Mo Su, good night."
"Mm... good night." She responded softly, her slightly cool fingers brushing against her cheek, feeling unexpectedly hot. Behind her, he seemed particularly calm, as if he had already fallen asleep.
She turned to look at him; in the moonlit night, her slender fingers glided over his tightly closed eyes, his high nose, and finally landed on his pressed lips. She hesitated for a moment before slowly and lightly kissing him. She thought he was asleep and felt bold enough to do so, but unexpectedly, he slowly opened his eyes and looked at her with a smile.
Her face immediately flushed red as she turned to the other side and buried herself under the blanket, playfully scolding him, "You're really annoying, pretending to be asleep..."
"I just wanted to see how you would react if I fell asleep," he said with a gentle laugh.
"Are you satisfied?" She buried herself deeper into the blanket.
"Very satisfied." His smile grew more pronounced as he reached for the blanket and pulled her into his embrace. "What do you look like all wrapped up in the blanket? You're not an ostrich."
She nestled into his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat. He gently pressed down on her, his breath exploring every corner of her body. Just as she was about to close her eyes in drowsiness, she heard a whisper drift into her ear: "Mo Su... I truly can't bear to part with you."
