"Coming to visit again this time is truly sincere. I hope Mr. Cheng can allow me to see Mo Su once more." Shangguan Shaoyi's gaze was calm and composed; proud as he was, he never allowed rejection. Since she had indeed turned him down, he had no reason to press further.
However... why did his emotions surge so erratically? After thinking it over for a night, he made a decision: no matter what, he had to bring her back to his side, regardless of whether she was willing.
Cheng Yi paused, looking at the black-haired youth before him, and momentarily thought that if he had been as resolute in his feelings when he was young, he wouldn't have ended up in such a situation.
He smiled bitterly. "Shaoyi, you are too late. Su'er has already gone to France for her studies; she probably won't be back for several years."
His pupils tightened; he was indeed one step too late, and this missed opportunity might be a lifetime...
Cheng Yi patted his shoulder. "I can see your feelings for Su'er clearly, but she only wants to forget your past together now. Although she hasn't said it directly, I know that's what she thinks. Please forget her and start living your own life. You are not someone else; if you want to gain the world, you cannot have any attachments."
He remained silent for a long time, the shining light in his black-and-white eyes slowly dimming. The unmasked helplessness could not form into coldness; at this moment, he let down all defenses, vulnerable like a child.
"Shaoyi, I hope you understand..."
"I already understand." He straightened his posture, standing tall like a pine tree; the sharp angles of his handsome face instantly returned to its usual appearance. Though his heart was bleeding, the indifference on his face concealed all sadness. "Thank you for your advice, Mr. Cheng. Shaoyi takes his leave."
Cheng Yi opened his mouth, wanting to say something more, but saw that upright figure turn away and stride forward. The warm sunlight above illuminated him, giving him a golden edge.
Cheng Yi smiled faintly but ultimately did not voice the words he wanted to say.
In France, everything remained the same.
Xiao Zuo brought Cheng Mo Su into the new classroom. Cheng Mo Su's Water Eyes rippled slightly; counting carefully, there were only six students in the class, one of whom had an Asian face. He intended to go over and greet that person but overheard her words as he approached.
"Hey, let me tell you all something: my cousin has a really good relationship with the current young master Shangguan back home."
Cheng Mo was taken aback. The woman spoke in French, but she had learned the language since childhood and was quite proficient. Water Eyes couldn't help but fixate on the woman. The woman sensed the gaze, looked back at her with a slight smile, and said in Chinese, "Are you Chinese?"
She nodded, and the woman's smile widened, her brows lifting slightly as she reached out and pulled her closer. "Hello, my name is Yeh Zhenzhen, from Feng Province. It seems you also want to hear the story of my cousin and the Young Marshal; come join us."
The few French ladies were naturally very curious and exclaimed, "I know Young Marshal Shangguan; he graduated from the German military academy. My brother was in the same class as him and said he was the most outstanding student of that year."
Yeh Zhenzhen nodded proudly. "In our Feng Province, he is a legend. Born into a prestigious family, yet without any debauchery; he is both cultured and martial, devoted in character—a rare talent." She paused and then asked Cheng Mo in Chinese, "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Xiao Zuowei frowned, intending to stop Yeh Zhenzhen's words, but Cheng Mo smiled lightly, shaking her head at Xiao Zuowei. The corners of her lips lifted into a beautiful arc as she said to Yeh Zhenzhen, "Don't worry; I understand French."
Yeh Zhenzhen's bright eyes scrutinized Cheng Mo for a moment, as if she had seen her somewhere before but suddenly couldn't recall where. However, she didn't want to dwell on it and turned back to continue. "My cousin grew up with him and told me many stories about him; let me share them with you."
Cheng Mo furrowed her brows slightly while the French girls looked excitedly at her, waiting for more. Yeh Zhenzhen cleared her throat a few times, adopting a storyteller's demeanor as she began, "My cousin was once kidnapped by human traffickers. When the Young Marshal found out, he slammed his fist on the table and went personally to rescue her. The hideout was located on top of a snowy mountain; he single-handedly fought off tigers and bears to save my cousin."
"Wow!" one French girl clapped her hands. "Did he use a gun?"
"No," Yeh Zhenzhen replied firmly. "He could kill tigers and bears with his bare hands."
Cheng Mo and Xiao Zuowei exchanged glances and couldn't help but burst into laughter, drawing an annoyed look from Yeh Zhenzhen. "What? You two don't believe me?"
Just as Xiao Zuowei was about to say something, Cheng Mo signaled him to stop with her eyes. She was curious about what other stories Yeh Zhenzhen could come up with. She gently brushed back a few strands of hair from her forehead and returned to her usual gentle smile. "No, Miss Yeh, please continue."
Yeh Zhenzhen beamed widely and patted Cheng Mo's shoulder. "When I first heard my cousin tell this story, I didn't believe it either. However, she was absolutely certain; I felt she wouldn't lie to me, and indeed the Young Marshal is incredibly brave, so I think it must be true."
"What else happened? What happened between him and your cousin later?" another French girl asked.
"Yes! He got engaged to my cousin; I remember that vow very clearly." She cleared her throat and raised her voice dramatically. "I, Shangguan Lin, take Cheng Mo as my wife; our love is deep and true, may we be united forever. May our bond endure through life and death; together we shall speak our vows. This love shall be remembered long; we shall not forget each other’s longing. A date will be chosen for our wedding; this is my pledge."
The distant vow seemed to come from the horizon, and the hidden beautiful times still echoed in her mind. She lowered her brows, as if recalling something, "Is your cousin Cheng Mo Su?"
"Yes," Yeh Zhenzhen said curiously, "Do you know her?"
Cheng Mo Su was silent for a moment before shaking her head. Yeh Zhenzhen looked at her with a puzzled expression and continued, "Shangguan Shaoshuai offended many people for my cousin. At that time, Feng Province was filled with their scandalous stories, saying he only loved beautiful women and not Nation. Because of this, my cousin had a big fight with him..."
"That's enough." The usually gentle Xiao Zuowei finally couldn't suppress his anger any longer. He couldn't bear to see Yeh Zhenzhen picking at Cheng Mo Su's wounds and spoke up to stop her.
Yeh Zhenzhen was confused, staring blankly at the man, but was swallowed by the dazzling light in his pupils, momentarily speechless.
Cheng Mo Su smiled faintly, tugging at Xiao Zuowei's sleeve, her Water Eyes bright and clear. "Brother Zuowei, let it go."
Xiao Zuowei looked at her, wanting to see through the clarity of her gaze, but Cheng Mo Su avoided his eyes, making it impossible to discern her emotions. He sighed in resignation, gently patting her shoulder before finding a seat to sit down. She smiled lightly and sat beside him.
Yeh Zhenzhen observed the two of them with great confusion and ran over to sit next to Cheng Mo Su. With a light laugh, she asked, "Your boyfriend looks so strange! By the way, I still don't know your name. What is it? Where do you live?"
Cheng Mo Su raised her Eyes and quietly looked at her. "He is not my boyfriend. I came from Shanghai; my name is... Cheng Mo Su."
Yeh Zhenzhen's pupils suddenly widened as she looked at her in disbelief.
