Several pairs of eyes focused intensely on Cheng Mo Su, burning with curiosity and malice, swaying around her, ready to ignite at a single point, turning her into dark and terrifying fragments. 0

Rong Hai stepped forward a few paces, glaring at her fiercely. "What have you done to my daughter?" He bent down to pick up Rong Yu Qiao, checking for signs of life. It was faint; she might not survive much longer. 0

Xiao Jing hurried to call a doctor and moved Rong Yu Qiao to a secluded room for treatment. However, fate was unkind; the German doctor was powerless to save her. The knife wound was fatal, and the rescue failed. 0

Rong Hai couldn't help but feel overwhelming sorrow. He had only this one daughter, always cherished in his hands and held close to his heart, yet she died so inexplicably. 0

He advanced menacingly toward Cheng Mo Su, but Shangguan Shaoyi quickly shielded the frightened Cheng Mo Su behind him, his gaze resolute. 0

"Xiao Lin, what are you doing? Step aside! I need to settle accounts with Cheng Mo Su!" he exclaimed in frustration. 0

"Uncle Rong, Mo Su wouldn't do something like this. I believe in her," Shangguan Shaoyi said firmly, his dark eyes revealing a hint of cold determination. "There is something fishy about this matter; we need to get to the bottom of it!" 0

"Isn't what my daughter said clear enough?" Rong Hai's eyes were like cold arrows, filled with grief and fury. "If it turns out that this is related to Cheng Mo Su, I fear you will still protect her!" A cold, despairing smile crept onto his lips. "Hand over Cheng Mo Su so I can turn her over to the police; otherwise, our families' years of friendship will be severed!" 0

Shangguan Shaoyi turned to look at Cheng Mo Su, who was visibly shaken, her lips devoid of color. Her long eyelashes trembled as her small face appeared pale without a trace of blood. He hurriedly supported her but felt as if she were weightless, as if she might shatter with the slightest touch. 0

His heart sank further; his gaze grew more resolute and fierce as he faced Rong Hai directly. "Uncle Rong, please don't make things difficult for me. Otherwise, it may indeed lead to the severing of our families' ties." 0

Xiao Jing quietly observed from the side. Since she entered the residence, she had seen how close the two families were; now it had escalated to this point, leaving her feeling desolate. 0

However, she did not believe that this incident had anything to do with Cheng Mo Su. Cheng Mo Su usually appeared calm and elegant, treating the servants politely; how could she commit such a cruel act? She quickly positioned herself between Lin Fu and Shangguan Shaoyi. "Young Master, Mr. Rong, please calm down." 0

"Xiao Jing, step aside! I won't rest until this woman is sent to prison!" Rong Hai pushed forward aggressively. 0

"Mr. Rong, please don't be angry. Miss Cheng has just arrived and has no relatives or friends in Feng Province. She spends all day reading in the study and has never stepped outside the residence. No one visits Miss Cheng; even if someone does come by, it's just a few people gathering at a table with our young lady," Xiao Jing explained hurriedly. "I find this matter very strange; Mr. Rong should think carefully before acting and not fall into the trap set by others." 0

Rong Hai paused slightly and sneered. "Xiao Jing has been in Shangguan Residence for too long; your words are well-articulated and reasonable, but I will not let this go easily." 0

His fierce gaze fixed on Cheng Mo Su behind Shangguan Shaoyi. "I will take Yu Qiao home first; as for you, Miss Cheng, I will be calling the police shortly to arrest you. You can either go to the police station yourself or let me take you there." 0

He tightened his grip around Rong Yuqiao's hand and spoke gently, "Yuqiao, let's go." 0

Step by step, he moved forward with great difficulty, as if time had come to a standstill at that moment. The voices, actions, and emotional fluctuations of those around him faded into the depths of sorrow. He jumped lightly and fell down, tripped by something strange that caught his ankle, and continued to plummet, tearing at his soul and leading him to an unknown hell. 0

Bang, the sound of the door closing. 0

Cheng Mo was in tears, feeling cold all over. She hadn't done anything but was dragged into one whirlpool after another. She didn't want to fight for anything; she only wanted to spend their days with Shaoyi, yet she didn't know which deity she had offended, always being tested with these inexplicable jokes about the depth of their relationship. 0

"Mo Su, what's wrong? Don't scare me. Did you hurt somewhere?" Shangguan Shaoyi held Cheng Mo tightly in his arms. He didn't believe anyone else's words; he only trusted her every action and word. 0

He nervously examined every inch of her skin until he finally breathed a sigh of relief upon finding her unharmed. But how could the wounds of the heart be seen or healed? 0

Xiao Jing helped Cheng Mo up and said, "Miss Cheng must have been quite frightened; she should be fine after a while. I'll cook something for her now to calm her down." Shangguan Shaoyi nodded and carried Cheng Mo in his arms toward the room. 0

Inside the bedroom, everything was as usual—silent and still. The poetry collection lay quietly by the pillow, and the bouquet that had been replaced a few days ago had not yet wilted. The window was still closed, and the rain outside had not stopped. 0

If Yuqiao hadn't died, everything would be normal. 0

But everything had ultimately changed. 0

He placed Cheng Mo on the bed and drew the curtains. The dimness from the rainy day vanished instantly as the last light disappeared from the room. 0

"Mo Su..." Cheng Mo lay on the bed silently crying. Each tear felt like a branding iron searing into his heart. He gently stroked her dark hair. "You're tired; rest for a while." He pulled over a velvet blanket to cover her, feeling that she was extremely cold all over. "Mo Su, don't think about it; leave these matters to me. Just sleep peacefully; I promise when you wake up, everything will be fine." 0

After a moment of silence with no response, he sighed softly and turned to leave but heard Cheng Mo's voice like a whispering mosquito, soft yet filled with unspeakable sadness. "Shaoyi, Miss Rong is dead... do you blame me?" 0

He turned back to look at her pale cheek and her big eyes that looked at him helplessly like an injured little animal. She always managed to touch the softest nerve in his heart. "What are you thinking? This has nothing to do with you; how could I blame you?" 0

"But Miss Rong said that before she died. If she didn't hate me to the bone, why would she say I was behind it?" Hot tears rolled down her cheeks, flowing onto the pure white pillowcase. Her heart felt tightly strung like a bowstring; any slight relaxation would send it flying into an uncontrollable realm. 0

The pain in her heart grew larger, and her voice choked, "She actually hates me more than the person who harmed her." 0

"Mo Su, don't think about it," he gently patted the back of her hand. His dark eyes were deep, his lips tightly closed, and his complexion was a pale white. 0

Cheng Mo was taken aback; the person who should be feeling the worst right now was him! Yu Qiao grew up with him, and he had always treated her like a biological sister. With family gone and his loved one becoming the prime suspect, he must be feeling a mix of emotions. 0

Mo Su wiped away her tears and secretly made a decision. Her soft voice carried a hint of stubbornness and determination, "Shaoyi, take me to the police station." 0

His pupils suddenly widened, and his brows furrowed tightly. "What did you say?" 0

"I said you should find someone to lock me up first." She smiled faintly, but it was filled with helplessness and desolation. "Miss Rong said before she died that I harmed her. Her father won't let this go easily; I don't want to make things difficult for you." She turned her head to the side, not looking at the anger and sorrow reflected in his eyes. 0

"Don't say that." The emotions in his gaze mixed sadness with anger. "If you get locked up, I'll feel even worse!" 0

"Don't you trust me?" she said quietly, tears wetting her long eyelashes as they trembled with sorrow. "I won't be afraid of something I didn't do. In a few days, when everything is cleared up, I'll be out, and you can give Mr. Rong an explanation." 0

"Mo Su..." He pulled her into his arms tightly, as if loosening his grip would make her disappear. He leaned against her neck, greedily inhaling her fragrance, his voice low and sorrowful. "You don't have to go this far for me." 0

"Not just for you, but for myself as well." Her eyes were clear and bright. "I don't want to live by your side bearing such suspicion; I want to stand beside you openly and confidently so that no one can object." 0
