Before dawn, she got up. 0

As she dragged her luggage down, the vast hall of the Shangguan Family was shrouded in darkness, with not a sound to be heard. Her delicate feet stepped onto the cashmere carpet, and the colorful mural at the end of the corridor contrasted sharply with her current black-and-white mood. She walked slowly but suddenly froze. 0

He sat in a pitch-black room, his long and powerful fingers holding a cigar, the air filled with the faint aroma of the cigar mixed with the scent of gunpowder from his attire. He quietly smoked without saying a word, his military uniform adding to his extraordinary demeanor and tall stature. 0

Her heart tightened; this was the first time she had seen him smoking a cigar. 0

He turned his face towards her, his pitch-black eyes emitting a faint glow in the night as he stared at her intently. Her thick, ink-like hair fell to her waist, and her elegant face bore a pair of watery eyes that shimmered subtly. 0

He spoke, his deep voice carrying a hint of hoarseness, "Are you all packed?" 0

"Yes." Her long, delicate eyelashes fluttered over a serene expression. 0

He stood up and walked over to her, unceremoniously picking up her luggage and striding forward. Cheng Mo paused for a moment before hurriedly following him, saying, "Why are you carrying my suitcase?" 0

"I'm taking you back." He didn't look back, leaving only his tall silhouette in her line of sight. 0

Her heart sank; she quickly replied, "There's no need to trouble yourself. I can go back by myself. If you really want to send me off, just have someone take me to the station." 0

He stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. His expression was calm, but his eyes were particularly striking, as if their light could swallow her whole. After a moment of silence, his cold voice echoed in her ears, "I will take you." 0

She knew that once he made a decision, he wouldn't change it. Stubbornly, she looked at him; she understood that his implication was either let him take her or stay behind herself. Cheng Mo closed her eyes slightly as she considered the current situation. Shaoyi's influence had just recovered; if she left recklessly now, it might trigger new turmoil. She smiled bitterly; Shaoyi was counting on her to compromise because of these concerns. 0

"I understand. Please help me take my luggage back to my room; I'm not leaving." She turned away lightly, yet the bitterness in her gaze still lingered in his pupils. 0

He said nothing more, returned her luggage to her room, wished her goodnight, and gently closed the door. 0

She hugged her knees with both hands, her watery eyes clear and calm. His voice came from outside the door, cold yet carrying a heart-wrenching tenderness and helplessness. "Mo Su, I never intended to threaten you. If you truly want to leave, I will set everything aside and escort you back to Shanghai." 0

She was taken aback. Did she hold such importance in his heart? 0

When she woke up again, the sun was high in the sky. 0

She gathered her hair and prepared to wash up. As she pushed open the door, she saw a pretty maid waiting at the entrance. Noticing her puzzled expression, the maid quickly said, "Miss Cheng, my name is Xiao Jing. The young master sent me to take care of your daily needs. If you need anything, just call for me." 0

She smiled lightly. "Xiao Jing, that's a lovely name." Upon hearing the compliment, Xiao Jing didn't feel uncomfortable; instead, she responded with a bright smile. "The young master gave me this name." 0

Cheng Mo Su fell silent, quietly grooming herself. After finishing, she sat in front of the European-style fireplace in the living room to warm herself. This served to drive away the chill in her body and also because Shangguan Yiting happened to be there, allowing them to chat for a while and pass the time. 0

In their conversation, Xiao Jing came to report that Rong Yu Qiao invited Cheng Mo Su to play cards, saying they were one player short. 0

Shangguan Yiting took a sip of tea, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Yu Qiao has sent an invitation for a banquet." She cast a casual glance at Cheng Mo Su and added with a smile, "If you don't want to go, just tell her I can go in your place." 0

Cheng Mo Su put down her plum blossom teacup and left behind the lingering fragrance of tea. She smiled slightly. "It's nothing. Since Miss Rong has invited me, I naturally must attend; otherwise, it would be ungrateful of me. Besides..." She lowered her eyes, her pure and gentle face serene and dignified. "There are indeed some things I would like to understand better." 0

A Lincoln car took Cheng Mo Su to the entrance of the Rong Family. The Rong Family was also a prominent family; Rong Yu Qiao's father, Rong Hai, was a well-known tycoon who owned a third of the wealth in the northern region. Rong Hai and General Shangguan once served under the same prince; later one pursued military endeavors while the other engaged in business, both achieving great success. If that prince were aware from beyond the grave, he would surely smile. 0

The Rong Residence was naturally magnificent. According to the maids, Rong Hai was from the south and had spent many years in the north, so he longed for his hometown; thus, he decorated his residence to resemble a Jiangnan water town. In the midst of rain and snow, the milky-white railings appeared even more pristine and translucent. The marble steps were exceptionally smooth; even with a layer of fine rain and snow on them, they still shone with a lustrous glow. Even during the day, the colorful lights of the Rong Family remained lit, radiating various hues like an isolated kingdom. 0

Following the servant's guidance, she entered the main hall of the Rong Family. Further inside was the card room where Rong Yu Qiao awaited her dressed in a mink coat. 0

"Miss Cheng," Rong Yu Qiao greeted with a smile as she stood up to shake hands with her. Cheng Mo Su also smiled faintly as she looked at another young lady sitting beside Rong Yu Qiao. 0

Rong Yuqiao smiled and introduced, "This is Miss Xia, Xia Yixiang." Xia Yixiang nodded slightly at Cheng Mo Su. Her appearance was not as delicate and cute as Rong Yuqiao's, nor as elegant and serene as Cheng Mo Su's; instead, she carried a worldly sophistication and shrewdness that a wealthy young lady typically lacked. 0

"I have a friend who hasn't arrived yet. Miss Cheng, would you mind having some tea to relax for a bit?" Rong Yuqiao pointed to the black tea in front of them. 0

"Thank you." She picked up the cup and took a light sip. The tea was good, but Rong Yuqiao's probing gaze made her extremely uncomfortable. She set the cup down and politely smiled at Rong Yuqiao. Rong Yuqiao returned the smile and casually picked up her cup, the exquisite ring on her finger sparkling in the sunlight, swaying in front of Cheng Mo Su. 0

"What a beautiful ring," Xia Yixiang exclaimed in surprise. "Did your father buy it for you?" 0

Rong Yuqiao scoffed lightly, "When did my dad ever buy me such things? This was given to me by Brother Lin." As she spoke, her gaze subtly drifted towards Cheng Mo Su, deliberately emphasizing the words "Brother Lin." 0

Damn Shangguan Shaoyi. Cheng Mo Su silently muttered to herself; didn't he know that rings shouldn't be given casually? However... she smiled again, took another sip of tea, and remained silent, gaining a rough understanding of Rong Yuqiao's intentions for this invitation. 0

Seeing that she had not reacted with any actions or expressions, Rong Yuqiao felt a bit anxious and looked at Xia Yixiang for help. Xia Yixiang awkwardly chuckled twice, unsure of what to do. Rong Yuqiao quietly leaned closer to Xia Yixiang's ear and said, "Didn't you say that if we talked like this, she would get furious and go back to find Brother Lin for revenge?!" 0

"I..." Xia Yixiang was momentarily at a loss for words. "It seems this method isn't working; let's try the next one." 0

Cheng Mo Su smiled slightly, taking in Rong Yuqiao's flustered appearance. Rong Yuqiao looked like a child who couldn't get candy, revealing all her cards in an attempt to obtain it. 0

The warm sunlight illuminated her fair cheeks as she wore a calm smile, gazing lightly at Rong Yuqiao. She wanted to see just how close the relationship between Rong Yuqiao and Shaoyi really was. 0
