Just as I was fully engrossed in reading the diary, Su Yingqing suddenly appeared at the study door, her eyes filled with surprise and panic.
"Xiaoran, what did you find?"
Her voice trembled slightly with tension.
I closed the book, swallowed hard, and whispered, "It might be some secrets that could overturn the Su Family."
Su Yingqing's eyes widened as she quickly walked over to me. Just as she was about to say something, the sound of a car came from outside.
The Su Family parents had returned.
Our expressions changed instantly. I quickly stuffed the diary into my pocket and forced a calm expression on my face.
The next moment, Mr. Su's voice rang out from outside, cold and sharp.
"What are you two doing?"
My heart skipped a beat as I feigned composure and replied, "Nothing, I just couldn't sleep and wanted to read a book."
Mr. Su snorted dismissively, clearly not believing my words.
He ordered us to return to our rooms immediately, leaving no room for discussion.
Su Yingqing and I exchanged a glance, determination flashing in our eyes.
"Wait a moment, we need to talk."
The Su Family parents' expressions hardened; they seemed to be contemplating our words.
In the end, they agreed to our request but limited us to half an hour.
We hid in Su Yingqing's room, nervously discussing the contents of the diary.
Our voices trembled slightly with excitement as we planned how to handle this secret carefully.
Just as we were about to finalize our plan, there was a sudden urgent knocking at the door.
"Zhao Yuran, Su Yingqing, come out immediately!"
It was Mr. Su's voice, booming like thunder and making the door rattle.
We exchanged glances again, resolute determination in our eyes.
The Su Family parents had unexpectedly returned home and discovered that Su Yingqing and I were in the study together.
Their faces were filled with anger and disappointment.
"Zhao Yuran, Su Yingqing, what do you mean by this?"
Mr. Su's fingers trembled as he pointed at us and shouted sternly.
I forced myself to meet Mr. Su's gaze and said softly, "We are just seeking the truth."
A flicker of uncertainty crossed the eyes of the Su Family Parents, but it was quickly replaced by anger.
"Is this what you call the truth?"
Madam Su's face showed a hint of mockery as she pointed at us, her eyes full of disappointment.
"You have disappointed us greatly."
I took a deep breath, suppressing the fear within me, and looked firmly at the Su Family Parents.
"Do you really care about us?"
"Or do you only care about the family's reputation?"
The expressions of the Su Family Parents changed, and a hint of panic flashed in their eyes.
"You are our daughters; of course we care about you."
Mr. Su's tone softened somewhat, but still carried an undeniable authority.
"But we also have a responsibility to protect the family."
Su Yingqing stepped forward, her eyes showing a glimmer of determination.
"Isn't your so-called protection of the family just for your own interests?"
The Su Family Parents were stunned by Su Yingqing's words; they opened their mouths but couldn't say anything.
Late at night, the Su Family Parents returned to their study and closed the door. Their faces no longer showed anger but deep confusion.
"Did... did we do something wrong?"
Mr. Su's voice was hoarse as he turned to look at Madam Su, uncertainty flashing in his eyes.
"Is what we have been holding onto really right?"
Madam Su shuddered slightly; she raised her head, confusion flickering in her eyes.
"I... I don't know."
Despite beginning to waver, the Su Family Parents remained concerned about the family's reputation and societal pressure.
They feared that change could bring unpredictable consequences for the family.
