"What are you doing here?"
A cold voice came from behind.
Moyuan and I turned around to see Lei Zhen standing not far away.
He had his arms crossed and was staring at us with sharp eyes.
"We're just looking up some information," I said, gazing at Lei Zhen calmly.
It was clear that he didn't believe me.
His gaze swept back and forth between us, trying to find any suspicious signs.
"It better be that way."
Lei Zhen stepped closer, his voice even colder.
"The disappearance of the Sacred Artifact is a big deal, and I don't want to see any suspicious behavior."
"We're also part of the academy, so naturally, we care about this matter," Moyuan said casually from the side.
Lei Zhen did not respond, his eyes still fixed on us.
"Don't let me catch you up to no good."
After throwing down that remark, he turned and left.
"It seems we need to be more careful from now on," Moyuan said in a lowered voice.
"We must act without him noticing."
I nodded.
"Where should we start our investigation?"
"Let's begin with the legends of the academy..."
...
In the dim light, we gathered around an old table in a corner.
The table was covered with yellowed scrolls and heavy books.
Moyuan and I leaned over the text on the scrolls, speaking in hushed tones to avoid being overheard.
"Are you sure it's this legend?"
I pointed at the text on the scroll, my brow furrowed.
"It should be correct now."
Moyuan carefully examined the scroll, his expression serious.
"Every legend points to the same place..."
"But that place..."
I didn't continue, instead glancing at Moyuan.
He understood my meaning.
That legendary location was difficult for ordinary people to approach.
"Regardless, we have to take a look."
Moyuan closed the scroll, his gaze resolute.
"However, this time you need to be careful; make sure not to be discovered by Lei Zhen."
I nodded in agreement.
"We'll meet here tomorrow night."
"You have a plan?"
Moyuan looked at me curiously.
I pondered for a moment and slowly said, "We need an old map that marks all the entrances and exits of the secret passages."
"In addition, we need one more person."
"Who?"
"Ouyang Xue."
Her knowledge and understanding of the academy are indispensable to us.
We must ensure she is on our side.
"Are you going to find her?"
Moyuan looked at me with concern in his eyes.
I shook my head: "No, we'll split up."
"You handle the map, and I'll take care of her."
Moyuan was silent for a moment before nodding.
"Tomorrow night, we'll see what we've each gathered here."
...
Time is tight; we must act quickly.
If the Sacred Artifact really falls into the hands of the Underworld, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Early the next morning, I found Ouyang Xue. She was quietly sitting at her desk, reading a thick ancient book. The sunlight streamed through the window, casting a soft halo around her.
"You've come," she said, putting down her book and smiling at me.
"You knew we would come?" I asked as I took a seat in the chair opposite her.
"You came for that matter, didn't you?" She looked at me, her eyes sparkling.
I paused for a moment before speaking. "We need your help."
"Why come to me?" She seemed unfazed by my request.
"Because you are the librarian, and you know the history of the academy inside and out," I admitted.
Ouyang Xue smiled slightly. "That's just one reason, isn't it?"
"I think you must know about the secret passages in the academy." I stared at her, trying to find a hint on her face.
But she only smiled and did not deny it.
"I know about the secret passages, but I've never been inside."
"We have to go in," I said firmly.
Ouyang Xue looked at me, a complex emotion flickering in her eyes. "Why come to me?"
