The shadow on the ground twisted slightly, then floated up lightly like a bubble. It slowly stretched and grew, gradually standing upright. Its form continued to expand until it touched the low-hanging ceiling. It bowed its head and knelt, the dark and blurry silhouette revealing an incredibly clear texture in the dim light. 0

Then, unexpectedly, it opened its mouth and asked, "Why?" 0

"Why do you insist on leaving?" 0

Faced with this sudden question, I chose to remain silent, focusing my gaze on it. I had never seen such a peculiar shadow before. In the past, it always quietly leaned against the wall in the corner, but now it exhibited a shocking sense of the grotesque. 0

After pondering for a moment, I decided to turn and leave. At the moment I stepped out, I clearly heard a soft laugh coming from behind me. That laughter seemed to originate from another world, ethereal and elusive. 0

I ran with all my might until I could go no further, then stopped. Turning back, I found that the shadow had not followed me closely. I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief and quickly headed toward home. 0

However, just as I reached my front door, my steps suddenly halted. Reflexively, I looked back. The empty street seemed unchanged; nothing had happened. Yet just a moment ago, I distinctly felt something rush past me. 0

I struggled to suppress the deep-seated fear within me and summoned the courage to walk home. After lighting the oil lamp, I began preparing dinner. At this time, the shadow still lay quietly in the corner of the wall. Seeing this scene, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief; perhaps what had just happened was indeed just my imagination. 0

However, in the next moment, as I crouched down again, the shadow trembled and stood up once more. It mimicked my every move from just moments ago. It respectfully knelt on the ground and reached for the rice in the pot. Every subtle motion was vividly clear, its tall figure stretching against the wall, twisting and distorting, finally arranging the bowl and chopsticks neatly on the dining table. In the interplay of light and shadow, it seemed to transform into a clumsy imitator. 0

I stared in astonishment at the shadow's every action, my mind blank. Suddenly, the light brightened. The shadow's movements came to an abrupt halt, returning to its original form. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm myself. After all, it was just my shadow; there was nothing to fear. 0

When I opened my eyes again, the shadow had moved elsewhere. It floated freely throughout the house, touching everything within reach. Every corner bore a dark imprint left by it. I watched the shadow for a long time before finally making up my mind. I had to return to that ancient temple. 0

In the dead of night, I set off alone on the path to the old shrine. The cold wind howled fiercely in my ears, and under the moonlight, my shadow was elongated unnaturally. I fixed my gaze on it and shouted, "What do you intend to do?" 0

In the vast night sky, only my voice echoed back. The shadow did not respond; instead, it grew increasingly agitated, as if mocking my ignorance. I quickened my pace. The ancient temple loomed hidden in the darkness, appearing particularly eerie and terrifying. "I will not let you control my fate!" 0

I shouted loudly once again, unsure whether that voice belonged to me or to the shadow. The shadow's movements suddenly paused for a moment, then became even more frenzied. 0
